Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;

Al tercer día, un hombre salió del campamento de Saúl, con su ropa rasgada y la tierra sobre su cabeza: y cuando vino a David, descendió sobre la tierra y le dio honor.
Y al tercer día acaeció, que vino uno del campo de Saúl, rotos sus vestidos, y tierra sobre su cabeza: y llegando á David, postróse en tierra, é hizo reverencia.
It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.

Y le dijo David: ¿De dónde vienes? Y él dijo: He venido huyendo del campamento de Israel.

And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.
David said to him, “Where do you come from?” He said to him, “I have escaped out of the camp of Israel.”
Y le dijo David: ¿Cómo anduvieron las cosas? Dame las noticias Y en respuesta, él dijo: La gente ha salido huyendo de la lucha, y una gran cantidad de ellos están muertos; y Saúl y su hijo Jonatán han muerto.
Y David le dijo: ¿Qué ha acontecido? ruégote que me lo digas. Y él respondió: El pueblo huyó de la batalla, y también muchos del pueblo cayeron y son muertos: también Saúl y Jonathán su hijo murieron.
And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.
David said to him, “How did it go? Please tell me.” He answered, “The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead. Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.”
Entonces David dijo al joven que le había dado la noticia: ¿Por qué estás seguro de que Saúl y su hijo Jonatán están muertos?
Y dijo David á aquel mancebo que le daba las nuevas: ¿Cómo sabes que Saúl es muerto, y Jonathán su hijo?
And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead?
David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?”
Y el joven dijo: Llegué por casualidad al monte Gilboa, y vi a Saúl sosteniéndose en su lanza; y los carros de guerra y los jinetes lo alcanzaron.
Y el mancebo que le daba las nuevas respondió: Casualmente vine al monte de Gilboa, y hallé á Saúl que estaba recostado sobre su lanza, y venían tras él carros y gente de á caballo.
And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

Y mirando hacia atrás, me vio y me gritó. Y respondiéndole, dije: Heme aquí.

And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I.

Entonces me dijo: Ven, acércate a mí y muéstrame, porque el dolor de la muerte me tiene agarrado, pero mi vida sigue siendo fuerte en mí.
Y él me volvió á decir: Yo te ruego que te pongas sobre mí, y me mates, porque me toman angustias, y toda mi alma está aún en mí.
He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me.
He said to me, ‘Please stand beside me, and kill me, for anguish has taken hold of me because my life lingers in me.’
Entonces puse mi pie sobre él y le di su golpe mortal, porque estaba seguro de que no seguiría viviendo después de su caída: y me quité la corona de la cabeza y la banda de su brazo. y los tengo aquí para mi señor.

So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord.

Entonces David dio paso a un amargo dolor, y así lo hicieron todos los hombres que estaban con él:

Y David dijo al joven que le había dado la noticia: ¿De dónde vienes? Y él dijo: Soy extranjero, hijo de un un amalecita.

And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.
David said to the young man who told him, “Where are you from?” He answered, “I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite.”
Y le dijo David: ¿No tuviste temor de extender tu mano para matar al que fue ungido con el aceite santo?

And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?
David said to him, “Why were you not afraid to stretch out your hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?”
Entonces David envió a uno de sus jóvenes y le dijo: Acércate y ponle fin. Y le dio muerte.
Entonces llamó David uno de los mancebos, y díjole: Llega, y mátalo. Y él lo hirió, y murió.
And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.

Y díjole David: Pon tu sangre sobre tu cabeza; porque tu boca ha dado testimonio contra ti, diciendo: He matado al hombre ungido del Señor.

And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD’s anointed.
David said to him, “Your blood be on your head, for your mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have slain the LORD’s anointed.’”
Entonces David hizo esta canción de dolor para Saúl y Jonatán, su hijo:
Y endechó David á Saúl y á Jonathán su hijo con esta endecha.
