1Du nun, mein Kind, sei stark in der Gnade, die in Christo Jesu ist;
2und was du von mir in Gegenwart vieler Zeugen gehört hast, das vertraue treuen Leuten an, welche tüchtig sein werden, auch andere zu lehren.
3Nimm teil an den Trübsalen als ein guter Kriegsmann Jesu Christi.
4Niemand, der Kriegsdienste tut, verwickelt sich in die Beschäftigungen des Lebens, auf daß er dem gefalle, der ihn angeworben hat.
5Wenn aber auch jemand kämpft, so wird er nicht gekrönt, er habe denn gesetzmäßig gekämpft.
6Der Ackerbauer muß, um die Früchte zu genießen, zuerst arbeiten.
7Bedenke, was ich sage; denn der Herr wird dir Verständnis geben in allen Dingen.
8Halte im Gedächtnis Jesum Christum, auferweckt aus den Toten, aus dem Samen Davids, nach meinem Evangelium,
9in welchem ich Trübsal leide bis zu Banden, wie ein Übeltäter; aber das Wort Gottes ist nicht gebunden.
10Deswegen erdulde ich alles um der Auserwählten willen, auf daß auch sie die Seligkeit erlangen, die in Christo Jesu ist, mit ewiger Herrlichkeit.
11Das Wort ist gewiß; denn wenn wir mitgestorben sind, so werden wir auch mitleben;
12wenn wir ausharren, so werden wir auch mitherrschen; wenn wir verleugnen, so wird auch er uns verleugnen;
13wenn wir untreu sind, er bleibt treu, denn er kann sich selbst nicht verleugnen.
14Dies bringe in Erinnerung, indem du ernstlich vor dem Herrn bezeugst, nicht Wortstreit zu führen, was zu nichts nütze, sondern zum Verderben der Zuhörer ist.
15Befleißige dich, dich selbst Gott bewährt darzustellen als einen Arbeiter, der sich nicht zu schämen hat, der das Wort der Wahrheit recht teilt.
16Die ungöttlichen eitlen Geschwätze aber vermeide; denn sie werden zu weiterer Gottlosigkeit fortschreiten,
17und ihr Wort wird um sich fressen wie ein Krebs; unter welchen Hymenäus ist und Philetus,
18die von der Wahrheit abgeirrt sind, indem sie sagen, daß die Auferstehung schon geschehen sei, und den Glauben etlicher zerstören.
19Doch der feste Grund Gottes steht und hat dieses Siegel: Der Herr kennt, die sein sind; und: Jeder, der den Namen des Herrn nennt, stehe ab von der Ungerechtigkeit!
20In einem großen Hause aber sind nicht allein goldene und silberne Gefäße, sondern auch hölzerne und irdene, und die einen zur Ehre, die anderen aber zur Unehre.
21Wenn nun jemand sich von diesen reinigt, so wird er ein Gefäß zur Ehre sein, geheiligt, nützlich dem Hausherrn, zu jedem guten Werke bereitet.
22Die jugendlichen Lüste aber fliehe; strebe aber nach Gerechtigkeit, Glauben, Liebe, Frieden mit denen, die den Herrn anrufen aus reinem Herzen.
23Aber die törichten und ungereimten Streitfragen weise ab, da du weißt, daß sie Streitigkeiten erzeugen.
24Ein Knecht des Herrn aber soll nicht streiten, sondern gegen alle milde sein, lehrfähig, duldsam,
25der in Sanftmut die Widersacher zurechtweist, ob ihnen Gott nicht etwa Buße gebe zur Erkenntnis der Wahrheit,
26und sie wieder nüchtern werden aus dem Fallstrick des Teufels, die von ihm gefangen sind, für seinen Willen.

1PUES tú, hijo mío, esfuérzate en la gracia que es en Cristo Jesús.
2Y lo que has oído de mí entre muchos testigos, esto encarga á los hombres fieles que serán idóneos para enseñar también á otros.
3Tú pues, sufre trabajos como fiel soldado de Jesucristo.
4Ninguno que milita se embaraza en los negocios de la vida; á fin de agradar á aquel que lo tomó por soldado.
5Y aun también el que lidia, no es coronado si no lidiare legítimamente.
6El labrador, para recibir los frutos, es menester que trabaje primero.
7Considera lo que digo; y el Señor te dé entendimiento en todo.
8Acuérdate que Jesucristo, el cual fué de la simiente de David, resucitó de los muertos conforme á mi evangelio;
9En el que sufro trabajo, hasta las prisiones á modo de malhechor; mas la palabra de Dios no está presa.
10Por tanto, todo lo sufro por amor de los escogidos, para que ellos también consigan la salud que es en Cristo Jesús con gloria eterna.
11Es palabra fiel: Que si somos muertos con él, también viviremos con él:
12Si sufrimos, también reinaremos con él: si negáremos, él también nos negará:
13Si fuéremos infieles, él permanece fiel: no se puede negar á sí mismo.
14Recuérdales esto, protestando delante del Señor que no contiendan en palabras, lo cual para nada aprovecha, antes trastorna á los oyentes.
15Procura con diligencia presentarte á Dios aprobado, como obrero que no tiene de qué avergonzarse, que traza bien la palabra de verdad.
16Mas evita profanas y vanas parlerías; porque muy adelante irán en la impiedad.
17Y la palabra de ellos carcomerá como gangrena: de los cuales es Himeneo y Fileto;
18Que se han descaminado de la verdad, diciendo que la resurrección es ya hecha, y trastornan la fe de algunos.
19Pero el fundamento de Dios está firme, teniendo este sello: Conoce el Señor á los que son suyos; y: Apártese de iniquidad todo aquel que invoca el nombre de Cristo.
20Mas en una casa grande, no solamente hay vasos de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro: y asimismo unos para honra, y otros para deshonra.
21Así que, si alguno se limpiare de estas cosas, será vaso para honra, santificado, y útil para los usos del Señor, y aparejado para todo buena obra.
22Huye también los deseos juveniles; y sigue la justicia, la fe, la caridad, la paz, con los que invocan al Señor de puro corazón.
23Empero las cuestiones necias y sin sabiduría desecha, sabiendo que engendran contiendas.
24Que el siervo del Señor no debe ser litigioso, sino manso para con todos, apto para enseñar, sufrido;
25Que con mansedumbre corrija á los que se oponen: si quizá Dios les dé que se arrepientan para conocer la verdad,
26Y se zafen del lazo del diablo, en que están cautivos á voluntad de él.

1Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
6The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
7Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
8Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
9Where in I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
10Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
13If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he can not deny himself.
14Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

1You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same things to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
3You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4No soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.
5Also, if anyone competes in athletics, he isn’t crowned unless he has competed by the rules.
6The farmer who labors must be the first to get a share of the crops.
7Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.
8Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the offspring of David, according to my Good News,
9in which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But God’s word isn’t chained.
10Therefore I endure all things for the chosen ones’ sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11This saying is trustworthy: “For if we died with him, we will also live with him.
12If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.
13If we are faithless, he remains faithful; for he can’t deny himself.”
14Remind them of these things, charging them in the sight of the Lord that they don’t argue about words to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.
15Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.
16But shun empty chatter, for it will go further in ungodliness,
17and those words will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus:
18men who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.
19However, God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”
20Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor and some for dishonor.
21If anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master’s use, prepared for every good work.
22Flee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23But refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife.
24The Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but be gentle toward all, able to teach, patient,
25in gentleness correcting those who oppose him. Perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,
26and they may recover themselves out of the devil’s snare, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
