Bible Darby
1L’ancien à Gaïus, le bien-aimé, que j’aime dans [la] vérité.
2Bien-aimé, je souhaite qu’à tous égards tu prospères et que tu sois en bonne santé, comme ton âme prospère ;
3car je me suis très fort réjoui quand des frères sont venus et ont rendu témoignage à ta vérité, comment toi tu marches dans la vérité.
4Je n’ai pas de plus grande joie que ceci, c’est que j’entende dire que mes enfants marchent dans la vérité.
5Bien-aimé, tu agis fidèlement dans tout ce que tu fais envers les frères, et cela [envers ceux-là même qui sont] étrangers,
6qui ont rendu témoignage à ton amour devant l’assemblée ; et tu feras bien de leur faire la conduite d’une manière digne de Dieu,
7car ils sont sortis pour le nom, ne recevant rien de ceux des nations.
8Nous donc, nous devons recevoir de tels hommes, afin que nous coopérions avec la vérité.
9J’ai écrit quelque chose à l’assemblée ; mais Diotrèphe, qui aime à être le premier parmi eux, ne nous reçoit pas ;
10c’est pourquoi, si je viens, je me souviendrai des œuvres qu’il fait en débitant de méchantes paroles contre nous ; et, non content de cela, lui-même il ne reçoit pas les frères et il empêche ceux qui veulent [les recevoir], et les chasse de l’assemblée.
11Bien-aimé, n’imite pas le mal, mais le bien. Celui qui fait le bien est de Dieu ; celui qui fait le mal n’a pas vu Dieu.
12Démétrius a le témoignage de tous et de la vérité elle-même ; et nous aussi, nous lui rendons témoignage : et tu sais que notre témoignage est vrai.
13J’avais beaucoup de choses à t’écrire, mais je ne veux pas t’écrire avec l’encre et la plume,
14mais j’espère te voir bientôt et nous parlerons bouche à bouche.
15Paix te soit. Les amis te saluent. Salue les amis, chacun par son nom.

1EL anciano al muy amado Gaio, al cual yo amo en verdad.
2Amado, yo deseo que tú seas prosperado en todas cosas, y que tengas salud, así como tu alma está en prosperidad.
3Ciertamente me gocé mucho cuando vinieron los hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu verdad, así como tú andas en la verdad.
4No tengo yo mayor gozo que éste, el oir que mis hijos andan en la verdad.
5Amado, fielmente haces todo lo que haces para con los hermanos, y con los extranjeros,
6Los cuales han dado testimonio de tu amor en presencia de la iglesia: á los cuales si ayudares como conviene según Dios, harás bien.
7Porque ellos partieron por amor de su nombre, no tomando nada de los Gentiles.
8Nosotros, pues, debemos recibir á los tales, para que seamos cooperadores á la verdad.
9Yo he escrito á la iglesia: mas Diótrefes, que ama tener el primado entre ellos, no nos recibe.
10Por esta causa, si yo viniere, recordaré las obras que hace parlando con palabras maliciosas contra nosotros; y no contento con estas cosas, no recibe á los hermanos, y prohibe á los que los quieren recibir, y los echa de la iglesia.
11Amado, no sigas lo que es malo, sino lo que es bueno. El que hace bien es de Dios: mas el que hace mal, no ha visto á Dios.
12Todos dan testimonio de Demetrio, y aun la misma verdad: y también nosotros damos testimonio; y vosotros habéis conocido que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.
13Yo tenía muchas cosas que escribirte; empero no quiero escribirte por tinta y pluma:
14Porque espero verte en breve, y hablaremos boca á boca. Paz sea contigo. Los amigos te saludan. Saluda tú á los amigos por nombre.

1The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
5Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
6Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
7Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
9I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
11Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
12Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
13I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
14But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

1The elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.
2Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.
3For I rejoiced greatly when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth.

5Beloved, you do a faithful work in whatever you accomplish for those who are brothers and strangers.
6They have testified about your love before the assembly. You will do well to send them forward on their journey in a way worthy of God,
7because for the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the Gentiles.
8We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
9I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say.
10Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, he doesn’t receive the brothers himself, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.
11Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God.
12Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.
13I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen;
14but I hope to see you soon. Then we will speak face to face. Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
