1Ein gewisser Mann aber in Cäsarea, mit Namen Kornelius, ein Hauptmann von der sogenannten italischen Schar,
2fromm und gottesfürchtig mit seinem ganzen Hause, der dem Volke viele Almosen gab und allezeit zu Gott betete-
3sah in einem Gesicht ungefähr um die neunte Stunde des Tages offenbarlich, wie ein Engel Gottes zu ihm hereinkam und zu ihm sagte: Kornelius!
4Er aber sah ihn unverwandt an und wurde von Furcht erfüllt und sagte: Was ist, Herr? Er sprach aber zu ihm: Deine Gebete und deine Almosen sind hinaufgestiegen zum Gedächtnis vor Gott.
5Und jetzt sende Männer nach Joppe und laß Simon holen, der Petrus zubenannt ist;
6dieser herbergt bei einem gewissen Simon, einem Gerber, dessen Haus am Meere ist.
7Als aber der Engel, der mit ihm redete, weggegangen war, rief er zwei seiner Hausknechte und einen frommen Kriegsknecht von denen, die beständig bei ihm waren;
8und als er ihnen alles erzählt hatte, sandte er sie nach Joppe.
9Des folgenden Tages aber, während jene reisten und sich der Stadt näherten, stieg Petrus um die sechste Stunde auf das Dach, um zu beten.
10Er wurde aber hungrig und verlangte zu essen. Während sie ihm aber zubereiteten, kam eine Entzückung über ihn.
11Und er sieht den Himmel geöffnet und ein gewisses Gefäß, gleich einem großen leinenen Tuche, herabkommen, an vier Zipfeln [gebunden und] auf die Erde herniedergelassen,
12in welchem allerlei vierfüßige und kriechende Tiere der Erde waren und das Gevögel des Himmels.
13Und eine Stimme geschah zu ihm: Stehe auf, Petrus, schlachte und iß!
14Petrus aber sprach: Keineswegs, Herr! Denn niemals habe ich irgend etwas Gemeines oder Unreines gegessen.
15Und wiederum geschah eine Stimme zum zweiten Male zu ihm: Was Gott gereinigt hat, mache du nicht gemein!
16Dieses aber geschah dreimal; und das Gefäß wurde alsbald hinaufgenommen in den Himmel.
17Als aber Petrus bei sich selbst in Verlegenheit war, was doch das Gesicht sein möchte, das er gesehen hatte, siehe, da standen die Männer, welche von Kornelius gesandt waren und Simons Haus erfragt hatten, vor dem Tore;
18und als sie gerufen hatten, fragten sie, ob Simon, der Petrus zubenamt sei, daselbst herberge.
19Während aber Petrus über das Gesicht nachsann, sprach der Geist zu ihm: Siehe, drei Männer suchen dich.
20Stehe aber auf, geh hinab und ziehe mit ihnen, ohne irgend zu zweifeln, weil ich sie gesandt habe.
21Petrus aber ging zu den Männern hinab und sprach: Siehe, ich bin's, den ihr suchet. Was ist die Ursache, weshalb ihr kommet?
22Sie aber sprachen: Kornelius, ein Hauptmann, ein gerechter und gottesfürchtiger Mann, und der ein gutes Zeugnis hat von der ganzen Nation der Juden, ist von einem heiligen Engel göttlich gewiesen worden, dich in sein Haus holen zu lassen und Worte von dir zu hören.
23Als er sie nun hereingerufen hatte, beherbergte er sie. Des folgenden Tages aber machte er sich auf und zog mit ihnen fort, und etliche der Brüder von Joppe gingen mit ihm;
24und des folgenden Tages kamen sie nach Cäsarea. Kornelius aber, der seine Verwandten und nächsten Freunde zusammengerufen hatte, erwartete sie.
25Als es aber geschah, daß Petrus hereinkam, ging Kornelius ihm entgegen, fiel ihm zu Füßen und huldigte ihm.
26Petrus aber richtete ihn auf und sprach: Stehe auf! Auch ich selbst bin ein Mensch.
27Und sich mit ihm unterredend, ging er hinein und findet viele versammelt.
28Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr wisset, wie unerlaubt es für einen jüdischen Mann ist, sich einem Fremdling anzuschließen oder zu ihm zu kommen; und mir hat Gott gezeigt, keinen Menschen gemein oder unrein zu heißen.
29Darum kam ich auch ohne Widerrede, als ich geholt wurde. Ich frage nun: Aus welchem Grunde habt ihr mich holen lassen?
30Und Kornelius sprach: Vor vier Tagen [fastete ich] bis zu dieser Stunde, [und] um die neunte betete ich in meinem Hause; und siehe, ein Mann stand vor mir in glänzendem Kleide
31und spricht: Kornelius! Dein Gebet ist erhört, und deiner Almosen ist gedacht worden vor Gott.
32Sende nun nach Joppe und laß Simon holen, der Petrus zubenamt ist; dieser herbergt in dem Hause Simons, eines Gerbers, am Meere; [der wird, wenn er hierhergekommen ist, zu dir reden].
33Sofort nun sandte ich zu dir, und du hast wohlgetan, daß du gekommen bist. Jetzt sind wir nun alle vor Gott gegenwärtig, um alles zu hören, was dir von Gott befohlen ist.
34Petrus aber tat den Mund auf und sprach: In Wahrheit begreife ich, daß Gott die Person nicht ansieht,
35sondern in jeder Nation, wer ihn fürchtet und Gerechtigkeit wirkt, ist ihm angenehm.
36Das Wort, welches er den Söhnen Israels gesandt hat, Frieden verkündigend durch Jesum Christum, [dieser ist aller Herr]
37kennet ihr: das Zeugnis, welches, anfangend von Galiläa, durch ganz Judäa hin ausgebreitet worden ist, nach der Taufe, die Johannes predigte:
38Jesum, den von Nazareth, wie Gott ihn mit Heiligem Geiste und mit Kraft gesalbt hat, der umherging, wohltuend und heilend alle, die von dem Teufel überwältigt waren; denn Gott war mit ihm.
39Und wir sind Zeugen alles dessen, was er sowohl im Lande der Juden als auch in Jerusalem getan hat; welchen sie auch umgebracht haben, indem sie ihn an ein Holz hängten.
40Diesen hat Gott am dritten Tage auferweckt und ihn sichtbar werden lassen,
41nicht dem ganzen Volke, sondern den von Gott zuvor erwählten Zeugen, uns, die wir mit ihm gegessen und getrunken haben, nachdem er aus den Toten auferstanden war.
42Und er hat uns befohlen, dem Volke zu predigen und ernstlich zu bezeugen, daß er der von Gott verordnete Richter der Lebendigen und der Toten ist.
43Diesem geben alle Propheten Zeugnis, daß jeder, der an ihn glaubt, Vergebung der Sünden empfängt durch seinen Namen.
44Während Petrus noch diese Worte redete, fiel der Heilige Geist auf alle, die das Wort hörten.
45Und die Gläubigen aus der Beschneidung, so viele ihrer mit Petrus gekommen waren, gerieten außer sich, daß auch auf die Nationen die Gabe des Heiligen Geistes ausgegossen worden war;
46denn sie hörten sie in Sprachen reden und Gott erheben.
47Dann antwortete Petrus: Könnte wohl jemand das Wasser verwehren, daß diese nicht getauft würden, die den Heiligen Geist empfangen haben, gleichwie auch wir?
48Und er befahl, daß sie getauft würden in dem Namen des Herrn. Dann baten sie ihn, etliche Tage zu bleiben.

1Y HABÍA un varón en Cesarea llamado Cornelio, centurión de la compañía que se llamaba la Italiana,
2Pío y temeroso de Dios con toda su casa, y que hacía muchas limosnas al pueblo, y oraba á Dios siempre.
3Este vió en visión manifiestamente, como á la hora nona del día, que un ángel de Dios entraba á él, y le decía: Cornelio.
4Y él, puestos en él los ojos, espantado, dijo: ¿Qué es, Señor? Y díjole: Tus oraciones y tus limosnas han subido en memoria á la presencia de Dios.
5Envía pues ahora hombres á Joppe, y haz venir á un Simón, que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro.
6Este posa en casa de un Simón, curtidor, que tiene su casa junto á la mar: él te dirá lo que te conviene hacer.
7E ido el ángel que hablaba con Cornelio, llamó dos de sus criados, y un devoto soldado de los que le asistían;
8A los cuales, después de habérselo contado todo, los envió á Joppe.
9Y al día siguiente, yendo ellos su camino, y llegando cerca de la ciudad, Pedro subió á la azotea á orar, cerca de la hora de sexta;
10Y aconteció que le vino una grande hambre, y quiso comer; pero mientras disponían, sobrevínole un éxtasis;
11Y vió el cielo abierto, y que descendía un vaso, como un gran lienzo, que atado de los cuatro cabos era bajado á la tierra;
12En el cual había de todos los animales cuadrúpedos de la tierra, y reptiles, y aves del cielo.
13Y le vino una voz: Levántate, Pedro, mata y come.
14Entonces Pedro dijo: Señor, no; porque ninguna cosa común é inmunda he comido jamás.
15Y volvió la voz hacia él la segunda vez: Lo que Dios limpió, no lo llames tú común.
16Y esto fué hecho por tres veces; y el vaso volvió á ser recogido en el cielo.
17Y estando Pedro dudando dentro de sí qué sería la visión que había visto, he aquí, los hombres que habían sido enviados por Cornelio, que, preguntando por la casa de Simón, llegaron á la puerta.
18Y llamando, preguntaron si un Simón que tenía por sobrenombre Pedro, posaba allí.
19Y estando Pedro pensando en la visión, le dijo el Espíritu: He aquí, tres hombres te buscan.
20Levántate, pues, y desciende, y no dudes ir con ellos; porque yo los he enviado.
21Entonces Pedro, descendiendo á los hombres que eran enviados por Cornelio, dijo: He aquí, yo soy el que buscáis: ¿cuál es la causa por la que habéis venido?
22Y ellos dijeron: Cornelio, el centurión, varón justo y temeroso de Dios, y que tiene testimonio de toda la nación de los Judíos, ha recibido respuesta por un santo ángel, de hacerte venir á su casa, y oir de ti palabras.
23Entonces metiéndolos dentro, los hospedó. Y al día siguiente, levantándose, se fué con ellos; y le acompañaron algunos de los hermanos de Joppe.
24Y al otro día entraron en Cesarea. Y Cornelio los estaba esperando, habiendo llamado á sus parientes y los amigos más familiares.
25Y como Pedro entró, salió Cornelio á recibirle; y derribándose á sus pies, adoró.
26Mas Pedro le levantó, diciendo: Levántate; yo mismo también soy hombre.
27Y hablando con él, entró, y halló á muchos que se habían juntado.
28Y les dijo: Vosotros sabéis que es abominable á un varón Judío juntarse ó llegarse á extranjero; mas me ha mostrado Dios que á ningún hombre llame común ó inmundo;
29Por lo cual, llamado, he venido sin dudar. Así que pregunto: ¿por qué causa me habéis hecho venir?
30Entonces Cornelio dijo: Cuatro días ha que á esta hora yo estaba ayuno; y á la hora de nona estando orando en mi casa, he aquí, un varón se puso delante de mí en vestido resplandeciente.
31Y dijo: Cornelio, tu oración es oída, y tus limosnas han venido en memoria en la presencia de Dios.
32Envía pues á Joppe, y haz venir á un Simón, que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro; éste posa en casa de Simón, curtidor, junto á la mar; el cual venido, te hablará.
33Así que, luego envié á ti; y tú has hecho bien en venir. Ahora pues, todos nosotros estamos aquí en la presencia de Dios, para oir todo lo que Dios te ha mandado.
34Entonces Pedro, abriendo su boca, dijo: Por verdad hallo que Dios no hace acepción de personas;
35Sino que de cualquiera nación que le teme y obra justicia, se agrada.
36Envió palabra Dios á los hijos de Israel, anunciando la paz por Jesucristo; éste es el Señor de todos.
37Vosotros sabéis lo que fué divulgado por toda Judea; comenzando desde Galilea después del bautismo que Juan predicó,
38Cuanto á Jesús de Nazaret; cómo le ungió Dios de Espíritu Santo y de potencia; el cual anduvo haciendo bienes, y sanando á todos los oprimidos del diablo; porque Dios era con él.
39Y nosotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que hizo en la tierra de Judea, y en Jerusalem; al cual mataron colgándole en un madero.
40A éste levantó Dios al tercer día, é hizo que apareciese manifiesto,
41No á todo el pueblo, sino á los testigos que Dios antes había ordenado, es á saber, á nosotros que comimos y bebimos con él, después que resucitó de los muertos.
42Y nos mandó que predicásemos al pueblo, y testificásemos que él es el que Dios ha puesto por Juez de vivos y muertos.
43A éste dan testimonio todos los profetas, de que todos los que en él creyeren, recibirán perdón de pecados por su nombre.
44Estando aún hablando Pedro estas palabras, el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que oían el sermón.
45Y se espantaron los fieles que eran de la circuncisión, que habían venido con Pedro, de que también sobre los Gentiles se derramase el don del Espíritu Santo.
46Porque los oían que hablaban en lenguas, y que magnificaban á Dios.
47Entonces respondió Pedro: ¿Puede alguno impedir el agua, para que no sean bautizados éstos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo también como nosotros?
48Y les mandó bautizar en el nombre del Señor Jesús. Entonces le rogaron que se quedase por algunos días.
King James Version
1There was a certain man in Cæsarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,
18And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
24And the morrow after they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
28And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
30And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

1Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,
2a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.
3At about the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, “Cornelius!”
4He, fastening his eyes on him and being frightened, said, “What is it, Lord?” He said to him, “Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God.
5Now send men to Joppa, and get Simon, who is also called Peter.
6He is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the seaside.
7When the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually.
8Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9Now on the next day as they were on their journey and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.
10He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.
11He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,
12in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.
13A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”
14But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”
15A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”
16This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.
17Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,
18and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.
19While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.
20But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”
21Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”
22They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”
23So he called them in and provided a place to stay. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
24On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.
25When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.
26But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”
27As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.
28He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.
29Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”
30Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing
31and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.
32Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’
33Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
34Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;
35but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.
36The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—
37you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
39We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree.
40God raised him up the third day and gave him to be revealed,
41not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
42He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead.
43All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.”
44While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.
45They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.
46For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,
47“Can anyone forbid these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just like us.”
48He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay some days.
