1Und etliche kamen von Judäa herab und lehrten die Brüder: Wenn ihr nicht beschnitten worden seid nach der Weise Moses', so könnt ihr nicht errettet werden.
2Als nun ein Zwiespalt entstand und ein nicht geringer Wortwechsel zwischen ihnen und dem Paulus und Barnabas, ordneten sie an, daß Paulus und Barnabas und etliche andere von ihnen zu den Aposteln und Ältesten nach Jerusalem hinaufgehen sollten wegen dieser Streitfrage.
3Sie nun, nachdem sie von der Versammlung das Geleit erhalten hatten, durchzogen Phönicien und Samaria und erzählten die Bekehrung derer aus den Nationen; und sie machten allen Brüdern große Freude.
4Als sie aber nach Jerusalem gekommen waren, wurden sie von der Versammlung und den Aposteln und Ältesten aufgenommen, und sie verkündeten alles, was Gott mit ihnen getan hatte.
5Etliche aber derer von der Sekte der Pharisäer, welche glaubten, traten auf und sagten: Man muß sie beschneiden und ihnen gebieten, das Gesetz Moses' zu halten.
6Die Apostel aber und die Ältesten versammelten sich, um diese Angelegenheit zu besehen.
7Als aber viel Wortwechsel entstanden war, stand Petrus auf und sprach zu ihnen: Brüder ihr wisset, daß Gott vor längerer Zeit mich unter euch auserwählt hat, daß die Nationen durch meinen Mund das Wort des Evangeliums hören und glauben sollten.
8Und Gott, der Herzenskenner, gab ihnen Zeugnis, indem er ihnen den Heiligen Geist gab, gleichwie auch uns;
9und er machte keinen Unterschied zwischen uns und ihnen, indem er durch den Glauben ihre Herzen reinigte.
10Nun denn, was versuchet ihr Gott, ein Joch auf den Hals der Jünger zu legen, das weder unsere Väter noch wir zu tragen vermochten?
11Sondern wir glauben durch die Gnade des Herrn Jesus in derselben Weise errettet zu werden wie auch jene.
12Die ganze Menge aber schwieg und hörte Barnabas und Paulus zu, welche erzählten, wie viele Zeichen und Wunder Gott unter den Nationen durch sie getan habe.
13Nachdem sie aber ausgeredet hatten, antwortete Jakobus und sprach: Brüder, höret mich!
14Simon hat erzählt, wie Gott zuerst die Nationen heimgesucht hat, um aus ihnen ein Volk zu nehmen für seinen Namen.
15Und hiermit stimmen die Worte der Propheten überein, wie geschrieben steht:
16“Nach diesem will ich zurückkehren und wieder aufbauen die Hütte Davids, die verfallen ist, und ihre Trümmer will ich wieder bauen und sie wieder aufrichten;
17damit die übrigen der Menschen den Herrn suchen, und alle Nationen, über welche mein Name angerufen ist, spricht der Herr, der dieses tut”,
18was von jeher bekannt ist.
19Deshalb urteile ich, daß man diejenigen, welche sich von den Nationen zu Gott bekehren, nicht beunruhige, sondern ihnen schreibe,
20daß sie sich enthalten von den Verunreinigungen der Götzen und von der Hurerei und vom Erstickten und vom Blute.
21Denn Moses hat von alten Zeiten her in jeder Stadt solche, die ihn predigen, indem er an jedem Sabbath in den Synagogen gelesen wird.
22Dann deuchte es den Aposteln und den Ältesten samt der ganzen Versammlung gut, Männer aus sich zu erwählen und sie mit Paulus und Barnabas nach Antiochien zu senden: Judas, genannt Barsabas, und Silas, Männer, welche Führer unter den Brüdern waren.
23Und sie schrieben und sandten durch ihre Hand [folgendes]: “Die Apostel und die Ältesten und die Brüder an die Brüder, die aus den Nationen sind zu Antiochien und in Syrien und Cilicien, ihren Gruß.
24Weil wir gehört haben, daß etliche, die aus unserer Mitte ausgegangen sind, euch mit Worten beunruhigt haben, indem sie eure Seelen verstören [und sagen, ihr müßtet beschnitten werden und das Gesetz halten] denen wir keine Befehle gegeben haben,
25deuchte es uns, einstimmig geworden, gut, Männer auszuerwählen und sie mit unseren Geliebten, Barnabas und Paulus, zu euch zu senden,
26mit Männern, die ihr Leben hingegeben haben für den Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus.
27Wir haben nun Judas und Silas gesandt, die auch selbst mündlich dasselbe verkündigen werden.
28Denn es hat dem Heiligen Geiste und uns gut geschienen, keine größere Last auf euch zu legen, als diese notwendigen Stücke:
29euch zu enthalten von Götzenopfern und von Blut und von Ersticktem und von Hurerei. Wenn ihr euch davor bewahret, so werdet ihr wohl tun. Lebet wohl!”
30Nachdem sie nun entlassen waren, kamen sie nach Antiochien hinab; und sie versammelten die Menge und übergaben den Brief.
31Als sie ihn aber gelesen hatten, freuten sie sich über den Trost.
32Und Judas und Silas, die auch selbst Propheten waren, ermunterten die Brüder mit vielen Worten und stärkten sie.
33Nachdem sie sich aber eine Zeitlang aufgehalten hatten, wurden sie mit Frieden von den Brüdern entlassen zu denen, die sie gesandt hatten.

35Paulus aber und Barnabas verweilten in Antiochien und lehrten und verkündigten mit noch vielen anderen das Wort des Herrn.
36Nach etlichen Tagen aber sprach Paulus zu Barnabas: Laß uns nun zurückkehren und die Brüder besuchen in jeder Stadt, in welcher wir das Wort des Herrn verkündigt haben, und sehen, wie es ihnen geht.
37Barnabas aber war gesonnen, auch Johannes, genannt Markus, mitzunehmen.
38Paulus aber hielt es für billig, den nicht mitzunehmen, der aus Pamphylien von ihnen gewichen und nicht mit ihnen gegangen war zum Werke.
39Es entstand nun eine Erbitterung, so daß sie sich voneinander trennten, und daß Barnabas den Markus mitnahm und nach Cypern segelte.
40Paulus aber erwählte sich Silas und zog aus, von den Brüdern der Gnade Gottes befohlen.
41Er durchzog aber Syrien und Cilicien und befestigte die Versammlungen.

1ENTONCES algunos que venían de Judea enseñaban á los hermanos: Que si no os circuncidáis conforme al rito de Moisés, no podéis ser salvos.
2Así que, suscitada una disensión y contienda no pequeña á Pablo y á Bernabé contra ellos, determinaron que subiesen Pablo y Bernabé á Jerusalem, y algunos otros de ellos, á los apóstoles y á los ancianos, sobre esta cuestión.
3Ellos, pues, habiendo sido acompañados de la iglesia, pasaron por la Fenicia y Samaria, contando la conversión de los Gentiles; y daban gran gozo á todos los hermanos.
4Y llegados á Jerusalem, fueron recibidos de la iglesia y de los apóstoles y de los ancianos: y refirieron todas las cosas que Dios había hecho con ellos.
5Mas algunos de la secta de los Fariseos, que habían creído, se levantaron, diciendo: Que es menester circuncidarlos, y mandarles que guarden la ley de Moisés.
6Y se juntaron los apóstoles y los ancianos para conocer de este negocio.
7Y habiendo habido grande contienda, levantándose Pedro, les dijo: Varones hermanos, vosotros sabéis cómo ya hace algún tiempo que Dios escogió que los Gentiles oyesen por mi boca la palabra del evangelio, y creyesen.
8Y Dios, que conoce los corazones, les dió testimonio, dándoles el Espíritu Santo también como á nosotros;
9Y ninguna diferencia hizo entre nosotros y ellos, purificando con la fe sus corazones.
10Ahora pues, ¿por qué tentáis á Dios, poniendo sobre la cerviz de los discípulos yugo, que ni nuestros padres ni nosotros hemos podido llevar?
11Antes por la gracia del Señor Jesús creemos que seremos salvos, como también ellos.
12Entonces toda la multitud calló, y oyeron á Bernabé y á Pablo, que contaban cuán grandes maravillas y señales Dios había hecho por ellos entre los Gentiles.
13Y después que hubieron callado, Jacobo respondió, diciendo: Varones hermanos, oidme:
14Simón ha contado cómo Dios primero visitó á los Gentiles, para tomar de ellos pueblo para su nombre;
15Y con esto concuerdan las palabras de los profetas, como está escrito:
16Después de esto volveré y restauraré la habitación de David, que estaba caída; y repararé sus ruinas, y la volveré á levantar;
17Para que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, y todos los Gentiles, sobre los cuales es llamado mi nombre, dice el Señor, que hace todas estas cosas.
18Conocidas son á Dios desde el siglo todas sus obras.
19Por lo cual yo juzgo, que los que de los Gentiles se convierten á Dios, no han de ser inquietados;
20Sino escribirles que se aparten de las contaminaciones de los ídolos, y de fornicación, y de ahogado, y de sangre.
21Porque Moisés desde los tiempos antiguos tiene en cada ciudad quien le predique en las sinagogas, donde es leído cada sábado.
22Entonces pareció bien á los apóstoles y á los ancianos, con toda la iglesia, elegir varones de ellos, y enviarlos á Antioquía con Pablo y Bernabé: á Judas que tenía por sobrenombre Barsabas, y á Silas, varones principales entre los hermanos;
23Y escribir por mano de ellos: Los apóstoles y los ancianos y los hermanos, á los hermanos de los Gentiles que están en Antioquía, y en Siria, y en Cilicia, salud:
24Por cuanto hemos oído que algunos que han salido de nosotros, os han inquietado con palabras, trastornando vuestras almas, mandando circuncidaros y guardar la ley, á los cuales no mandamos;
25Nos ha parecido, congregados en uno, elegir varones, y enviarlos á vosotros con nuestros amados Bernabé y Pablo,
26Hombres que han expuesto sus vidas por el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
27Así que, enviamos á Judas y á Silas, los cuales también por palabra os harán saber lo mismo.
28Que ha parecido bien al Espíritu Santo, y á nosotros, no imponeros ninguna carga más que estas cosas necesarias:
29Que os abstengáis de cosas sacrificadas á ídolos, y de sangre, y de ahogado, y de fornicación; de las cuales cosas si os guardareis, bien haréis. Pasadlo bien.
30Ellos entonces enviados, descendieron á Antioquía; y juntando la multitud, dieron la carta.
31La cual, como leyeron, fueron gozosos de la consolación.
32Judas también y Silas, como ellos también eran profetas, consolaron y confirmaron á los hermanos con abundancia de palabra.
33Y pasando allí algún tiempo, fueron enviados de los hermanos á los apóstoles en paz.
34Mas á Silas pareció bien el quedarse allí.
35Y Pablo y Bernabé se estaban en Antioquía, enseñando la palabra del Señor y anunciando el evangelio con otros muchos.
36Y después de algunos días, Pablo dijo á Bernabé: Volvamos á visitar á los hermanos por todas las ciudades en las cuales hemos anunciado la palabra del Señor, cómo están.
37Y Bernabé quería que tomasen consigo á Juan, el que tenía por sobrenombre Marcos;
38Mas á Pablo no le parecía bien llevar consigo al que se había apartado de ellos desde Pamphylia, y no había ido con ellos á la obra.
39Y hubo tal contención entre ellos, que se apartaron el uno del otro; y Bernabé tomando á Marcos, navegó á Cipro.
40Y Pablo escogiendo á Silas, partió encomendado de los hermanos á la gracia del Señor.
41Y anduvo la Siria y la Cilicia, confirmando á las iglesias.

1And certain men which came down from Judæa taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
2When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
3And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.
4And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.
5But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
6And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
7And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
8And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
9And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
10Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
12Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.
13And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
14Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
15And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
16After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
17That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.
18Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
19Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
20But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
21For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
22Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
23And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:
24Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
25It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
26Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.
28For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
29That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
30So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:
31Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.
32And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
33And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.
34Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.
35Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
36And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
37And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
38But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
39And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
40And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.
41And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

1Some men came down from Judea and taught the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised after the custom of Moses, you can’t be saved.”
2Therefore when Paul and Barnabas had no small discord and discussion with them, they appointed Paul, Barnabas, and some others of them to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question.
3They, being sent on their way by the assembly, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles. They caused great joy to all the brothers.
4When they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly and the apostles and the elders, and they reported everything that God had done with them.
5But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”
6The apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about this matter.
7When there had been much discussion, Peter rose up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that a good while ago God made a choice among you that by my mouth the nations should hear the word of the Good News and believe.
8God, who knows the heart, testified about them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just like he did to us.
9He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.
10Now therefore why do you tempt God, that you should put a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they are.”
12All the multitude kept silence, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul reporting what signs and wonders God had done among the nations through them.
13After they were silent, James answered, “Brothers, listen to me.
14Simeon has reported how God first visited the nations to take out of them a people for his name.
15This agrees with the words of the prophets. As it is written,
16‘After these things I will return. I will again build the tabernacle of David, which has fallen. I will again build its ruins. I will set it up
17that the rest of men may seek after the Lord: all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who does all these things.’
18“All of God’s works are known to him from eternity.
19Therefore my judgment is that we don’t trouble those from among the Gentiles who turn to God,
20but that we write to them that they abstain from the pollution of idols, from sexual immorality, from what is strangled, and from blood.
21For Moses from generations of old has in every city those who preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”
22Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole assembly, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas: Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brothers.
23They wrote these things by their hand: “The apostles, the elders, and the brothers, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: greetings.
24Because we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, ‘You must be circumcised and keep the law,’ to whom we gave no commandment;
25it seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose out men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
26men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves will also tell you the same things by word of mouth.
28For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay no greater burden on you than these necessary things:
29that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality, from which if you keep yourselves, it will be well with you. Farewell.”
30So, when they were sent off, they came to Antioch. Having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter.
31When they had read it, they rejoiced over the encouragement.
32Judas and Silas, also being prophets themselves, encouraged the brothers with many words and strengthened them.
33After they had spent some time there, they were dismissed in peace from the brothers to the apostles.

35But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
36After some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s return now and visit our brothers in every city in which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, to see how they are doing.”
37Barnabas planned to take John, who was called Mark, with them also.
38But Paul didn’t think that it was a good idea to take with them someone who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia, and didn’t go with them to do the work.
39Then the contention grew so sharp that they separated from each other. Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus,
40but Paul chose Silas and went out, being commended by the brothers to the grace of God.
41He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the assemblies.
