1Después llegó a Derbe y a Listra; y allí había un discípulo llamado Timoteo, hijo de una mujer judía creyente, pero de padre griego.
2Los hermanos que estaban en Listra y en Iconio hablaban muy bien de él.
3Pablo quiso que este lo acompañara; así que lo tomó y lo circuncidó por causa de los judíos que había en aquellos lugares, ya que todos sabían que su padre era griego.
4Al pasar por las ciudades, les entregaban las instrucciones que habían sido acordadas por los apóstoles y los ancianos en Jerusalén, para que las obedecieran.
5De esta manera, las iglesias se fortalecían en la fe y su número aumentaba cada día.
6Cuando atravesaban la región de Frigia y Galacia, el Espíritu Santo les prohibió predicar el mensaje en la provincia de Asia.
7Al llegar a la frontera de Misia, intentaron entrar en Bitinia, pero el Espíritu no se lo permitió.
8Así que pasaron de largo por Misia y bajaron a Troas.
9Durante la noche, Pablo tuvo una visión: vio a un hombre de Macedonia que estaba de pie, rogándole: “¡Pasa a Macedonia y ayúdanos!”.
10Después de que Pablo tuvo la visión, enseguida nos preparamos para salir hacia Macedonia, convencidos de que Dios nos había llamado a anunciarles las buenas noticias.
11Zarpamos de Troas y navegamos directamente a Samotracia, y al día siguiente a Neápolis.
12De allí nos fuimos a Filipos, que es una colonia romana y la ciudad principal de esa región de Macedonia. Nos quedamos algunos días en esa ciudad.
13El sábado salimos a las afueras de la ciudad, a la orilla del río, donde pensábamos que habría un lugar de oración. Nos sentamos y nos pusimos a platicar con las mujeres que se habían reunido.
14Una de las que escuchaba era una mujer llamada Lidia, vendedora de telas de púrpura, de la ciudad de Tiatira, que adoraba a Dios. El Señor le abrió el corazón para que prestara atención a lo que Pablo decía.
15Cuando ella y su familia fueron bautizados, nos rogó diciendo: “Si ustedes consideran que soy fiel al Señor, vengan a quedarse en mi casa”. Y nos convenció de ir.
16Una vez, mientras íbamos al lugar de oración, nos salió al encuentro una joven esclava que tenía un espíritu de adivinación. Con sus adivinaciones les daba a ganar mucho dinero a sus amos.
17Ella nos seguía a Pablo y a nosotros, gritando: “¡Estos hombres son siervos del Dios Altísimo, y les anuncian el camino de salvación!”.
18Hizo esto durante muchos días, hasta que Pablo se molestó mucho, se dio la vuelta y le dijo al espíritu: “¡En el nombre de Jesucristo, te ordeno que salgas de ella!”. Y el espíritu la dejó en ese mismo momento.
19Pero cuando sus amos se dieron cuenta de que se les había esfumado la esperanza de ganar dinero, agarraron a Pablo y a Silas y los arrastraron a la plaza principal, ante las autoridades.
20Los presentaron ante los magistrados y les dijeron: “Estos hombres son judíos y están alborotando nuestra ciudad;
21además, enseñan costumbres que a nosotros, los romanos, no se nos permite aceptar ni practicar”.
22La multitud también se amotinó contra ellos, y los magistrados ordenaron que les arrancaran la ropa y los azotaran con varas.
23Después de darles muchos golpes, los echaron en la cárcel y le ordenaron al carcelero que los vigilara con la máxima seguridad.
24Al recibir esta orden, el carcelero los metió en el calabozo más profundo y les sujetó los pies en el cepo.
25Como a la medianoche, Pablo y Silas estaban orando y cantando himnos a Dios, y los demás presos los escuchaban.
26De repente, hubo un terremoto tan fuerte que sacudió los cimientos de la cárcel. Al instante, se abrieron todas las puertas y a todos los presos se les soltaron las cadenas.
27El carcelero despertó, y al ver las puertas de la cárcel abiertas, sacó su espada y estuvo a punto de matarse, pensando que los presos se habían escapado.
28Pero Pablo le gritó con fuerza: “¡No te hagas daño! ¡Todos estamos aquí!”.
29El carcelero pidió una lámpara, entró corriendo y, temblando de miedo, se postró a los pies de Pablo y de Silas.
30Luego los sacó y les preguntó: “Señores, ¿qué debo hacer para ser salvo?”.
31Ellos le contestaron: “Cree en el Señor Jesucristo, y serás salvo, tú y toda tu familia”.
32Y le compartieron la palabra del Señor a él y a todos los que estaban en su casa.
33A esa misma hora de la noche, el carcelero los tomó y les lavó las heridas; e inmediatamente fue bautizado, junto con todos los suyos.
34Después los llevó a su casa y les sirvió de comer. Y él y toda su familia se alegraron mucho de haber creído en Dios.
35Al amanecer, los magistrados enviaron a los guardias con esta orden: “Dejen libres a esos hombres”.
36El carcelero le comunicó el mensaje a Pablo: “Los magistrados han ordenado que los suelte; así que ya pueden irse. Váyanse en paz”.
37Pero Pablo les contestó: “Nos han golpeado en público sin habernos juzgado, a pesar de que somos ciudadanos romanos, y nos han metido en la cárcel. ¿Y ahora quieren echarnos a escondidas? ¡Claro que no! Que vengan ellos mismos a sacarnos”.
38Los guardias les informaron esto a los magistrados. Al oír que eran romanos, se asustaron;
39así que fueron a pedirles disculpas. Los sacaron de allí y les rogaron que se fueran de la ciudad.
40Al salir de la cárcel, Pablo y Silas se dirigieron a la casa de Lidia, donde se encontraron con los hermanos, los animaron y se despidieron de ellos.

1DESPUÉS llegó á Derbe, y á Listra: y he aquí, estaba allí un discípulo llamado Timoteo, hijo de una mujer Judía fiel, mas de padre Griego.
2De éste daban buen testimonio los hermanos que estaban en Listra y en Iconio.
3Este quiso Pablo que fuese con él; y tomándole, le circuncidó por causa de los Judíos que estaban en aquellos lugares; porque todos sabían que su padre era Griego.
4Y como pasaban por las ciudades, les daban que guardasen los decretos que habían sido determinados por los apóstoles y los ancianos que estaban en Jerusalem.
5Así que, las iglesias eran confirmadas en fe, y eran aumentadas en número cada día.
6Y pasando á Phrygia y la provincia de Galacia, les fué prohibido por el Espíritu Santo hablar la palabra en Asia.
7Y como vinieron á Misia, tentaron de ir á Bithynia; mas el Espíritu no les dejó.
8Y pasando á Misia, descendieron á Troas.
9Y fué mostrada á Pablo de noche una visión: Un varón Macedonio se puso delante, rogándole, y diciendo: Pasa á Macedonia, y ayúdanos.
10Y como vió la visión, luego procuramos partir á Macedonia, dando por cierto que Dios nos llamaba para que les anunciásemos el evangelio.
11Partidos pues de Troas, vinimos camino derecho á Samotracia, y el día siguiente á Neápolis;
12Y de allí á Filipos, que es la primera ciudad de la parte de Macedonia, y una colonia; y estuvimos en aquella ciudad algunos días.
13Y un día de sábado salimos de la puerta junto al río, donde solía ser la oración; y sentándonos, hablamos á las mujeres que se habían juntado.
14Entonces una mujer llamada Lidia, que vendía púrpura en la ciudad de Tiatira, temerosa de Dios, estaba oyendo; el corazón de la cual abrió el Señor para que estuviese atenta á lo que Pablo decía.
15Y cuando fué bautizada, y su familia, nos rogó, diciendo: Si habéis juzgado que yo sea fiel al Señor, entrad en mi casa, y posad: y constriñónos.
16Y aconteció, que yendo nosotros á la oración, una muchacha que tenía espíritu pitónico, nos salió al encuentro, la cual daba grande ganancia á sus amos adivinando.
17Esta, siguiendo á Pablo y á nosotros, daba voces, diciendo: Estos hombres son siervos del Dios Alto, los cuales os anuncian el camino de salud.
18Y esto hacía por muchos días; mas desagradando á Pablo, se volvió y dijo al espíritu: Te mando en el nombre de Jesucristo, que salgas de ella. Y salió en la misma hora.
19Y viendo sus amos que había salido la esperanza de su ganancia, prendieron á Pablo y á Silas, y los trajeron al foro, al magistrado;
20Y presentándolos á los magistrados, dijeron: Estos hombres, siendo Judíos, alborotan nuestra ciudad,
21Y predican ritos, los cuales no nos es lícito recibir ni hacer, pues somos Romanos.
22Y agolpóse el pueblo contra ellos: y los magistrados rompiéndoles sus ropas, les mandaron azotar con varas.
23Y después que los hubieron herido de muchos azotes, los echaron en la cárcel, mandando al carcelero que los guardase con diligencia:
24El cual, recibido este mandamiento, los metió en la cárcel de más adentro; y les apretó los pies en el cepo.
25Mas á media noche, orando Pablo y Silas, cantaban himnos á Dios: y los que estaban presos los oían.
26Entonces fué hecho de repente un gran terremoto, de tal manera que los cimientos de la cárcel se movían; y luego todas las puertas se abrieron, y las prisiones de todos se soltaron.
27Y despertado el carcelero, como vió abiertas las puertas de la cárcel, sacando la espada se quería matar, pensando que los presos se habían huído.
28Mas Pablo clamó á gran voz, diciendo: No te hagas ningún mal; que todos estamos aquí.
29El entonces pidiendo luz, entró dentro, y temblando, derribóse á los pies de Pablo y de Silas;
30Y sacándolos fuera, les dice: Señores, ¿qué es menester que yo haga para ser salvo?
31Y ellos dijeron: Cree en el Señor Jesucristo, y serás salvo tú, y tu casa.
32Y le hablaron la palabra del Señor, y á todos los que estaban en su casa.
33Y tomándolos en aquella misma hora de la noche, les lavó los azotes; y se bautizó luego él, y todos los suyos.
34Y llevándolos á su casa, les puso la mesa: y se gozó de que con toda su casa había creído á Dios.
35Y como fué de día, los magistrados enviaron los alguaciles, diciendo: Deja ir á aquellos hombres.
36Y el carcelero hizo saber estas palabras á Pablo: Los magistrados han enviado á decir que seáis sueltos: así que ahora salid, é id en paz.
37Entonces Pablo les dijo: Azotados públicamente sin ser condenados, siendo hombres Romanos, nos echaron en la cárcel; y ¿ahora nos echan encubiertamente? No, de cierto, sino vengan ellos y sáquennos.
38Y los alguaciles volvieron á decir á los magistrados estas palabras: y tuvieron miedo, oído que eran Romanos.
39Y viniendo, les rogaron; y sacándolos, les pidieron que se saliesen de la ciudad.
40Entonces salidos de la cárcel, entraron en casa de Lidia; y habiendo visto á los hermanos, los consolaron, y se salieron.

1Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
4And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
6Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
7After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
8And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.
9And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
10And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.
11Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;
12And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
13And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
14And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
16And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
19And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
20And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
22And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
23And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
24Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
27And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
28But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
35And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
36And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
37But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
38And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
39And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.
40And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

3Paul wanted to have him go out with him, and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

5So the assemblies were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

15When she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.” So she persuaded us.
16As we were going to prayer, a certain girl having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune telling.
17Following Paul and us, she cried out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us a way of salvation!”
18She was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” It came out that very hour.
19But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.
20When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men, being Jews, are agitating our city
21and advocate customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans.”
22The multitude rose up together against them and the magistrates tore their clothes from them, then commanded them to be beaten with rods.
23When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely.
24Having received such a command, he threw them into the inner prison and secured their feet in the stocks.
25But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
26Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were loosened.
27The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
28But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, “Don’t harm yourself, for we are all here!”
29He called for lights, sprang in, fell down trembling before Paul and Silas,
30brought them out, and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
32They spoke the word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his house.
33He took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes, and was immediately baptized, he and all his household.
34He brought them up into his house and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly with all his household, having believed in God.
35But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, “Let those men go.”
36The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore come out and go in peace.”
37But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly without a trial, men who are Romans, and have cast us into prison! Do they now release us secretly? No, most certainly, but let them come themselves and bring us out!”
38The sergeants reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans,
39and they came and begged them. When they had brought them out, they asked them to depart from the city.
40They went out of the prison and entered into Lydia’s house. When they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them, then departed.
