Então eles viajaram através das cidades de Anfípolis e Apolônia e chegaram a Tessalônica, onde havia uma sinagoga judaica.

Y PASANDO por Amphípolis y Apolonia, llegaron á Tesalónica, donde estaba la sinagoga de los Judíos.

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

Como era costume de Paulo, ele foi à sinagoga e durante três semanas seguidas discutiu as Escrituras com o povo,

Y Pablo, como acostumbraba, entró á ellos, y por tres sábados disputó con ellos de las Escrituras,

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

explicando as profecias a respeito dos sofrimentos do Cristo e da sua ressurreição, e dizia: “Este Jesus que proclamo a vocês é o Cristo”.

Declarando y proponiendo, que convenía que el Cristo padeciese, y resucitase de los muertos; y que Jesús, el cual yo os anuncio, decía él, éste era el Cristo.

Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.”

Alguns judeus ouviram e acreditaram e se converteram, inclusive um grande número de homens gregos piedosos, e também muitas mulheres de alta posição na cidade.

Y algunos de ellos creyeron, y se juntaron con Pablo y con Silas; y de los Griegos religiosos grande multitud, y mujeres nobles no pocas.

And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

Mas os líderes judaicos ficaram com inveja e incitaram alguns homens perversos das ruas a se revoltarem e atacarem a casa de Jasom, pretendendo levar Paulo e Silas ao conselho da cidade, para serem castigados.

Entonces los Judíos que eran incrédulos, teniendo celos, tomaron consigo á algunos ociosos, malos hombres, y juntando compañía, alborotaron la ciudad; y acometiendo á la casa de Jasón, procuraban sacarlos al pueblo.

But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

But the unpersuaded Jews took along some wicked men from the marketplace and gathering a crowd, set the city in an uproar. Assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them out to the people.

Como não encontraram os dois ali, arrastaram Jasom e alguns outros irmãos, e os levaram diante dos oficiais da cidade. “Esses homens viraram o resto do mundo de cabeça para baixo, e agora estão aqui perturbando a nossa cidade”, clamavam eles,

Mas no hallándolos, trajeron á Jasón y á algunos hermanos á los gobernadores de la ciudad, dando voces: Estos que alborotan el mundo, también han venido acá;

And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

When they didn’t find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city, crying, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here also,

“e Jasom deixou os dois entrar em sua casa. Todos eles são culpados de traição, porque estão agindo contra os decretos de César, dizendo que há um outro rei, chamado Jesus”.

A los cuales Jasón ha recibido; y todos estos hacen contra los decretos de César, diciendo que hay otro rey, Jesús.

Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Cæsar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

O povo da cidade, como também os juízes, ficaram inquietos com essas informações,

Y alborotaron al pueblo y á los gobernadores de la ciudad, oyendo estas cosas.

And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

e só deixaram Jasom e os outros acusados irem embora depois de pagarem a fiança.

Mas recibida satisfacción de Jasón y de los demás, los soltaron.

And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

Naquela noite os irmãos fizeram Paulo e Silas saírem depressa para Bereia; ali, eles foram à sinagoga judaica.

Entonces los hermanos, luego de noche, enviaron á Pablo y á Silas á Berea; los cuales habiendo llegado, entraron en la sinagoga de los Judíos.

And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea. When they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue.

Entretanto o povo de Bereia tinha a mente mais aberta do que o de Tessalônica, de modo que ouviram com mais interesse a mensagem. E examinaram dia a dia as Escrituras, para conferir as declarações de Paulo e Silas, a fim de ver se tudo o que diziam era verdade.

Y fueron éstos más nobles que los que estaban en Tesalónica, pues recibieron la palabra con toda solicitud, escudriñando cada día las Escrituras, si estas cosas eran así.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Como resultado, muitos deles creram, inclusive diversas mulheres gregas de elevada posição e também muitos homens.

Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

Mas quando os judeus de Tessalônica souberam que Paulo estava pregando a Palavra de Deus em Bereia, foram para lá e alvoroçaram a multidão.

Mas como entendieron los Judíos de Tesalónica que también en Berea era anunciada la palabra de Dios por Pablo, fueron, y también allí tumultuaron al pueblo.

But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed by Paul at Beroea also, they came there likewise, agitating the multitudes.

Os irmãos agiram imediatamente, e enviaram Paulo para a beira-mar, enquanto Silas e Timóteo permaneceram em Bereia.

Empero luego los hermanos enviaron á Pablo que fuese como á la mar; y Silas y Timoteo se quedaron allí.

And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.

Then the brothers immediately sent out Paul to go as far as to the sea, and Silas and Timothy still stayed there.

Aqueles que acompanhavam Paulo seguiram com ele até Atenas, e depois voltaram a Bereia, com um recado para Silas e Timóteo andarem depressa e irem ao encontro dele.

Y los que habían tomado á cargo á Pablo, le llevaron hasta Atenas; y tomando encargo para Silas y Timoteo, que viniesen á él lo más presto que pudiesen, partieron.

And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

But those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens. Receiving a commandment to Silas and Timothy that they should come to him very quickly, they departed.

Enquanto Paulo estava esperando por eles em Atenas, sentia-se muitíssimo perturbado com todos os ídolos que via por toda parte, na cidade inteira.

Y esperándolos Pablo en Atenas, su espíritu se deshacía en él viendo la ciudad dada á idolatría.

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

Ele ia à sinagoga para debater com os judeus e os gregos tementes a Deus, e falava diariamente na praça pública a todos que ali se encontravam.

Así que, disputaba en la sinagoga con los Judíos y religiosos; y en la plaza cada día con los que le ocurrían.

Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who met him.

Paulo teve também um debate com alguns dos filósofos epicureus e estoicos. A reação destes, quando ele falou de Jesus e da sua ressurreição, foi: “O que este tagarela está tentando dizer?”; ou: “Ele está fazendo propaganda de alguma religião estrangeira”.

Y algunos filósofos de los Epicúreos y de los Estóicos, disputaban con él; y unos decían: ¿Qué quiere decir este palabrero? Y otros: Parece que es predicador de nuevos dioses: porque les predicaba á Jesús y la resurrección.

Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also were conversing with him. Some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign deities,” because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

Porém eles convidaram Paulo para ir ao fórum do monte de Marte. “Venha nos falar mais a respeito desta nova religião”, disseram,

Y tomándole, le trajeron al Areópago, diciendo: ¿Podremos saber qué sea esta nueva doctrina que dices?

And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

They took hold of him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is, which you are speaking about?

“pois você está dizendo umas coisas bem estranhas e nós queremos ouvir mais”.

Porque pones en nuestros oídos unas nuevas cosas: queremos pues saber qué quiere ser esto.

For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

For you bring certain strange things to our ears. We want to know therefore what these things mean.”

Todos os atenienses, bem como os estrangeiros de Atenas, pareciam gastar todo o seu tempo discutindo as últimas novidades!

(Entonces todos los Atenienses y los huéspedes extranjeros, en ninguna otra cosa entendían, sino ó en decir ó en oir alguna cosa nueva.)

(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

Então Paulo, ficando em pé diante deles no fórum do monte de Marte, falou assim: “Homens de Atenas, eu noto que vocês são muito religiosos,

Estando pues Pablo en medio del Areópago, dijo: Varones Atenienses, en todo os veo como más supersticiosos;

Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus and said, “You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things.

pois enquanto andava por aí, vi os muitos altares de vocês, e um deles tinha esta inscrição: ‘Ao Deus Desconhecido’. Vocês têm adorado a Deus sem saber quem ele é, e agora eu quero falar a respeito dele a vocês.

Porque pasando y mirando vuestros santuarios, hallé también un altar en el cual estaba esta inscripción: AL DIOS NO CONOCIDO. Aquél pues, que vosotros honráis sin conocerle, á éste os anuncio yo.

For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription: ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ What therefore you worship in ignorance, I announce to you.

“O Deus que fez o mundo e tudo que nele há e que é o Senhor do céu e da terra não mora em templos feitos por mãos humanas.

El Dios que hizo el mundo y todas las cosas que en él hay, éste, como sea Señor del cielo y de la tierra, no habita en templos hechos de manos,

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands.

Ele não é servido por mãos de homens, porque ele não precisa disso! Ele mesmo dá a vida e a respiração a tudo, e satisfaz todas as necessidades que existem.

Ni es honrado con manos de hombres, necesitado de algo; pues él da á todos vida, y respiración, y todas las cosas;

Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

He isn’t served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath and all things.

Ele criou, partindo de um só homem, todas as pessoas do mundo, e espalhou as nações pela face da terra. Ele determinou previamente qual delas se levantaria e qual cairia, e quando. E determinou as fronteiras das nações.

Y de una sangre ha hecho todo el linaje de los hombres, para que habitasen sobre toda la faz de la tierra; y les ha prefijado el orden de los tiempos, y los términos de la habitación de ellos;

And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons and the boundaries of their dwellings,

O seu objetivo em tudo isso foi que eles buscassem a Deus, e andassem ainda que tateando em sua direção, para encontrá-lo, embora ele não esteja longe de nenhum de nós.

Para que buscasen á Dios, si en alguna manera, palpando, le hallen; aunque cierto no está lejos de cada uno de nosotros:

That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

‘Porque nele nós vivemos, e nos movemos, e existimos!’, como diz um dos próprios poetas de vocês: ‘Nós também somos descendência dele’.

Porque en él vivimos, y nos movemos, y somos; como también algunos de vuestros poetas dijeron: Porque linaje de éste somos también.

For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

‘For in him we live, move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’

“Assim, visto que somos descendência de Deus, não devemos imaginar Deus como um ídolo de ouro, ou de prata, ou feito de pedra pela imaginação de homens.

Siendo pues linaje de Dios, no hemos de estimar la Divinidad ser semejante á oro, ó á plata, ó á piedra, escultura de artificio ó de imaginación de hombres.

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man.

Deus tolerou a ignorância passada do homem a respeito destas coisas, mas agora ele ordena a todo mundo que se arrependa.

Empero Dios, habiendo disimulado los tiempos de esta ignorancia, ahora denuncia á todos los hombres en todos los lugares que se arrepientan:

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent,

Porque determinou um dia para julgar com justiça o mundo por meio do homem que ele destinou, e já mostrou quem é ao ressuscitá-lo dos mortos”.

Por cuanto ha establecido un día, en el cual ha de juzgar al mundo con justicia, por aquel varón al cual determinó; dando fe á todos con haberle levantado de los muertos.

Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.”

Quando ouviram Paulo falar da ressurreição dos mortos, alguns deles zombaram, mas outros disseram: “Outro dia nós queremos ouvir mais a respeito disso”.

Y así como oyeron de la resurrección de los muertos, unos se burlaban, y otros decían: Te oiremos acerca de esto otra vez.

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, “We want to hear you again concerning this.”

Com isso Paulo terminou a discussão e retirou-se do meio deles.

Y así Pablo se salió de en medio de ellos.

Mas alguns homens se juntaram a ele e creram. Entre estes estava Dionísio, membro do Areópago, e também uma mulher chamada Dâmaris, entre outros.

Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
