1Dopo queste cose egli, partitosi da Atene, venne a Corinto.
2E trovato un certo Giudeo, per nome Aquila, oriundo del Ponto, venuto di recente dall’Italia insieme con Priscilla sua moglie, perché Claudio avea comandato che tutti i Giudei se ne andassero da Roma, s’unì a loro.
3E siccome era del medesimo mestiere, dimorava con loro, e lavoravano; poiché, di mestiere, eran fabbricanti di tende.
4E ogni sabato discorreva nella sinagoga, e persuadeva Giudei e Greci.
5Ma quando Sila e Timoteo furon venuti dalla Macedonia, Paolo si diè tutto quanto alla predicazione, testimoniando ai Giudei che Gesù era il Cristo.
6Però, contrastando essi e bestemmiando, egli scosse le sue vesti e disse loro: Il vostro sangue ricada sul vostro capo; io ne son netto; da ora innanzi andrò ai Gentili.
7E partitosi di là, entrò in casa d’un tale, chiamato Tizio Giusto, il quale temeva Iddio, ed aveva la casa contigua alla sinagoga.
8E Crispo, il capo della sinagoga, credette nel Signore con tutta la sua casa; e molti dei Corinzi, udendo Paolo, credevano, ed eran battezzati.
9E il Signore disse di notte in visione a Paolo: Non temere ma parla e non tacere;
10perché io son teco, e nessuno metterà le mani su te per farti del male; poiché io ho un gran popolo in questa città.
11Ed egli dimorò quivi un anno e sei mesi, insegnando fra loro la parola di Dio.
12Poi, quando Gallione fu proconsole d’Acaia, i Giudei, tutti d’accordo, si levaron contro Paolo, e lo menarono dinanzi al tribunale, dicendo:
13Costui va persuadendo gli uomini ad adorare Iddio in modo contrario alla legge.
14E come Paolo stava per aprir la bocca, Gallione disse ai Giudei: Se si trattasse di qualche ingiustizia o di qualche mala azione, o Giudei, io vi ascolterei pazientemente, come ragion vuole.
15Ma se si tratta di questioni intorno a parole, a nomi, e alla vostra legge, provvedeteci voi; io non voglio esser giudice di codeste cose.
16E li mandò via dal tribunale.
17Allora tutti, afferrato Sostene, il capo della sinagoga, lo battevano davanti al tribunale. E Gallione non si curava affatto di queste cose.
18Quanto a Paolo, ei rimase ancora molti giorni a Corinto; poi, preso commiato dai fratelli, navigò verso la Siria, con Priscilla ed Aquila, dopo essersi fatto tosare il capo a Cencrea, perché avea fatto un voto.
19Come furon giunti ad Efeso, Paolo li lasciò quivi; egli, intanto, entrato nella sinagoga, si pose a discorrere coi Giudei.
20E pregandolo essi di dimorare da loro più a lungo, non acconsentì;
21ma dopo aver preso commiato e aver detto che, Dio volendo, sarebbe tornato da loro un’altra volta, salpò da Efeso.
22E sbarcato a Cesarea, salì a Gerusalemme, e salutata la chiesa, scese ad Antiochia.
23Ed essendosi fermato quivi alquanto tempo, si partì, percorrendo di luogo in luogo il paese della Galazia e la Frigia, confermando tutti i discepoli.
24Or un certo Giudeo, per nome Apollo, oriundo d’Alessandria, uomo eloquente e potente nelle Scritture, arrivò ad Efeso.
25Egli era stato ammaestrato nella via del Signore; ed essendo fervente di spirito, parlava e insegnava accuratamente le cose relative a Gesù, benché avesse conoscenza soltanto del battesimo di Giovanni.
26Egli cominciò pure a parlar francamente nella sinagoga. Ma Priscilla ed Aquila, uditolo, lo presero seco e gli esposero più appieno la via di Dio.
27Poi, volendo egli passare in Acaia, i fratelli ve lo confortarono, e scrissero ai discepoli che l’accogliessero. Giunto là, egli fu di grande aiuto a quelli che avevan creduto mediante la grazia;
28perché con gran vigore confutava pubblicamente i Giudei, dimostrando per le Scritture che Gesù è il Cristo.

1PASADAS estas cosas, Pablo partió de Atenas, y vino á Corinto.
2Y hallando á un Judío llamado Aquila, natural del Ponto, que hacía poco que había venido de Italia, y á Priscila su mujer, (porque Claudio había mandado que todos los Judíos saliesen de Roma) se vino á ellos;
3Y porque era de su oficio, posó con ellos, y trabajaba; porque el oficio de ellos era hacer tiendas.
4Y disputaba en la sinagoga todos los sábados, y persuadía á Judíos y á Griegos.
5Y cuando Silas y Timoteo vinieron de Macedonia, Pablo estaba constreñido por la palabra, testificando á los Judíos que Jesús era el Cristo.
6Mas contradiciendo y blasfemando ellos, les dijo, sacudiendo sus vestidos: Vuestra sangre sea sobre vuestra cabeza; yo, limpio; desde ahora me iré á los Gentiles.
7Y partiendo de allí, entró en casa de uno llamado Justo, temeroso de Dios, la casa del cual estaba junto á la sinagoga.
8Y Crispo, el prepósito de la sinagoga, creyó al Señor con toda su casa: y muchos de los Corintios oyendo creían, y eran bautizados.
9Entonces el Señor dijo de noche en visión á Pablo: No temas, sino habla, y no calles:
10Porque yo estoy contigo, y ninguno te podrá hacer mal; porque yo tengo mucho pueblo en esta ciudad.
11Y se detuvo allí un año y seis meses, enseñándoles la palabra de Dios.
12Y siendo Galión procónsul de Acaya, los Judíos se levantaron de común acuerdo contra Pablo, y le llevaron al tribunal,
13Diciendo: Que éste persuade á los hombres á honrar á Dios contra la ley.
14Y comenzando Pablo á abrir la boca, Galión dijo á los Judíos: Si fuera algún agravio ó algún crimen enorme, oh Judíos, conforme á derecho yo os tolerara:
15Mas si son cuestiones de palabras, y de nombres, y de vuestra ley, vedlo vosotros; porque yo no quiero ser juez de estas cosas.
16Y los echó del tribunal.
17Entonces todos los Griegos tomando á Sóstenes, prepósito de la sinagoga, le herían delante del tribunal: y á Galión nada se le daba de ello.
18Mas Pablo habiéndose detenido aún allí muchos días, después se despidió de los hermanos, y navegó á Siria, y con él Priscila y Aquila, habiéndose trasquilado la cabeza en Cencreas, porque tenía voto.
19Y llegó á Efeso, y los dejó allí: y él entrando en la sinagoga, disputó con los Judíos,
20Los cuales le rogaban que se quedase con ellos por más tiempo; mas no accedió,
21Sino que se despidió de ellos, diciendo: Es menester que en todo caso tenga la fiesta que viene, en Jerusalem; mas otra vez volveré á vosotros, queriendo Dios. Y partió de Efeso.
22Y habiendo arribado á Cesarea subió á Jerusalem; y después de saludar á la iglesia, descendió á Antioquía.
23Y habiendo estado allí algún tiempo, partió, andando por orden la provincia de Galacia, y la Phrygia, confirmando á todos los discípulos.
24Llegó entonces á Efeso un Judío, llamado Apolos, natural de Alejandría, varón elocuente, poderoso en las Escrituras.
25Este era instruído en el camino del Señor; y ferviente de espíritu, hablaba y enseñaba diligentemente las cosas que son del Señor, enseñando solamente en el bautismo de Juan.
26Y comenzó á hablar confiadamente en la sinagoga: al cual como oyeron Priscila y Aquila, le tomaron, y le declararon más particularmente el camino de Dios.
27Y queriendo él pasar á Acaya, los hermanos exhortados, escribieron á los discípulos que le recibiesen; y venido él, aprovechó mucho por la gracia á los que habían creído:
28Porque con gran vehemencia convencía públicamente á los Judíos, mostrando por las Escrituras que Jesús era el Cristo.

1After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
3And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
4And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
5And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
6And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
7And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
8And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
9Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
11And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
12And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
13Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.
14And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:
15But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.
16And he drave them from the judgment seat.
17Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.
18And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
19And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
20When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;
21But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
22And when he had landed at Cæsarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.
23And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
24And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
25This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
26And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
27And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:
28For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

1After these things Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth.

3and because he practiced the same trade, he lived with them and worked, for by trade they were tent makers.
4He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded Jews and Greeks.
5When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.
6When they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his clothing and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on, I will go to the Gentiles!”
7He departed there and went into the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.
8Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house. Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized.

18Paul, having stayed after this many more days, took his leave of the brothers, and sailed from there for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.
19He came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
20When they asked him to stay with them a longer time, he declined;
21but taking his leave of them, he said, “I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem, but I will return again to you if God wills.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.

23Having spent some time there, he departed and went through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples.
24Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures.
25This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.
26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.
27When he had determined to pass over into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him; and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he had come, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace;
28for he powerfully refuted the Jews, publicly showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
