Or il arriva, comme Apollos était à Corinthe, que Paul, après avoir traversé les contrées supérieures, vint à Éphèse ; et ayant trouvé de certains disciples,

il leur dit : Avez-vous reçu l’Esprit Saint après avoir cru ? Et ils lui †dirent : Mais nous n’avons même pas entendu dire si l’Esprit Saint est.

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Et il dit : De quel †baptême donc avez-vous été baptisés ? Et ils dirent : Du baptême de Jean.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

Et Paul dit : Jean a baptisé du baptême de la repentance, disant au peuple qu’ils croient en celui qui venait après lui, c’est-à-dire en Jésus.

Y dijo Pablo: Juan bautizó con bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo al pueblo que creyesen en el que había de venir después de él, es á saber, en Jesús el Cristo.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Mais comme quelques-uns s’endurcissaient et étaient rebelles, disant du mal de la voie devant la multitude, lui, s’étant retiré d’avec eux, sépara les disciples, discourant tous les jours dans l’école de Tyrannus.

Mais quelques-uns aussi des Juifs exorcistes qui couraient çà et là, essayèrent d’invoquer le nom du seigneur Jésus sur ceux qui avaient des esprits malins, disant : Je vous adjure par Jésus que Paul prêche.

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

Et il y avait sept fils de Scéva, Juif, principal sacrificateur, qui faisaient cela.

Et plusieurs de ceux qui avaient cru, venaient, confessant et déclarant ce qu’ils avaient fait.

Y muchos de los que habían creído, venían, confesando y dando cuenta de sus hechos.

And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

C’est avec une telle puissance que la parole du Seigneur croissait et montrait sa force.

Así crecía poderosamente la palabra del Señor, y prevalecía.

Or il y eut en ce temps-là un grand trouble au sujet de la voie ;

car un certain homme nommé Démétrius, qui travaillait en argenterie et faisait des temples de Diane en argent, procurait un grand profit aux artisans ;

Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

et vous voyez et apprenez que non seulement à Éphèse, mais presque par toute l’Asie, ce Paul, usant de persuasion, a détourné une grande foule, disant que ceux-là ne sont pas des dieux, qui sont faits de main.

Y veis y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Efeso, sino á muchas gentes de casi toda el Asia, ha apartado con persuasión, diciendo, que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.

Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

You see and hear that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods that are made with hands.

Et non seulement il y a du danger pour nous que cette partie ne tombe en discrédit, mais aussi que le temple de la grande déesse Diane ne soit plus rien estimé, et qu’il n’arrive que sa majesté, laquelle l’Asie entière et la terre habitée révère, soit anéantie.

Y no solamente hay peligro de que este negocio se nos vuelva en reproche, sino también que el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea estimado en nada, y comience á ser destruída su majestad, la cual honra toda el Asia y el mundo.

So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”

Et quand ils eurent entendu †ces choses, ils furent remplis de colère, et s’écriaient, disant : Grande est la Diane des Éphésiens !

Oídas estas cosas, llenáronse de ira, y dieron alarido, diciendo: ¡Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

Et †toute la ville fut remplie de confusion ; et, d’un commun accord, ils se précipitèrent dans le théâtre, entraînant avec eux Gaïus et Aristarque, Macédoniens, compagnons de voyage de Paul.

et quelques-uns aussi des Asiarques, qui étaient ses amis, envoyèrent vers lui pour le prier de ne pas s’aventurer dans le théâtre.

También algunos de los principales de Asia, que eran sus amigos, enviaron á él rogando que no se presentase en el teatro.

And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

Les uns donc criaient une chose, les autres une autre ; car l’assemblée était en confusion, et la plupart ne savaient pas pourquoi ils étaient assemblés.

Mais quand ils eurent connu qu’il était Juif, ils s’écrièrent tous d’une seule voix, durant près de deux heures : Grande est la Diane des Éphésiens !

Mas como conocieron que era Judío, fué hecha un voz de todos, que gritaron casi por dos horas: ¡Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

Mais le secrétaire †de la ville, ayant apaisé la multitude, dit : Hommes éphésiens, qui est donc l’homme qui ne sache pas que la ville des Éphésiens est consacrée à la garde du temple de la grande Diane, et à l’†image tombée du ciel ?

And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?

Ces choses donc étant incontestables, il convient que vous vous teniez tranquilles et que vous ne fassiez rien précipitamment ;

Así que, pues esto no puede ser contradicho, conviene que os apacigüéis, y que nada hagáis temerariamente;

Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

car vous avez amené ces hommes qui ne sont ni des voleurs sacrilèges, ni des blasphémateurs de votre déesse.

Pues habéis traído á estos hombres, sin ser sacrílegos ni blasfemadores de vuestra diosa.

For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

Si donc Démétrius et les artisans qui sont avec lui ont quelque affaire contre quelqu’un, les tribunaux sont ouverts et il y a des proconsuls ; qu’ils s’accusent les uns les autres.

Que si Demetrio y los oficiales que están con él tienen negocio con alguno, audiencias se hacen, y procónsules hay; acúsense los unos á los otros.

Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a matter against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.

Et si vous avez une réclamation à faire sur d’autres sujets, on en décidera dans l’assemblée légale ;

Y si demandáis alguna otra cosa, en legítima asamblea se pueda decidir.

But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.

car nous sommes en danger d’être accusés de sédition pour ce qui s’est passé aujourd’hui, puisqu’il n’y a pas de motif que nous puissions alléguer pour rendre raison de cet attroupement. Et quand il eut dit ces choses, il congédia l’assemblée.

Porque peligro hay de que seamos argüidos de sedición por hoy, no habiendo ninguna causa por la cual podamos dar razón de este concurso. Y habiendo dicho esto, despidió la concurrencia.

For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning today’s riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn’t be able to give an account of this commotion.”
