Or il arriva comme Apollos était à Corinthe, que Paul après avoir traversé tous les quartiers d’en haut, vint à Ephèse, où ayant trouvé de certains disciples, il leur dit :

Y ACONTECIÓ que entre tanto que Apolos estaba en Corinto, Pablo, andadas las regiones superiores, vino á Efeso, y hallando ciertos discípulos,

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

Avez-vous reçu le Saint-Esprit quand vous avez cru ? et ils lui répondirent : nous n’avons pas même ouï dire s’il y a un Saint- Esprit.

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Et il leur dit : de quel Baptême donc avez-vous été baptisés ; ils répondirent : du Baptême de Jean.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”

Alors Paul dit : il est vrai que Jean a baptisé du Baptême de repentance, disant au peuple, qu’ils crussent en celui qui venait après lui, c’est-à-dire, en Jésus- Christ.

Y dijo Pablo: Juan bautizó con bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo al pueblo que creyesen en el que había de venir después de él, es á saber, en Jesús el Cristo.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Et ayant ouï ces choses, ils furent baptisés au Nom du Seigneur Jésus.

But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

Et cela continua l’espace de deux ans ; de sorte que tous ceux qui demeuraient en Asie, tant Juifs que Grecs, ouïrent la parole du Seigneur Jésus.

De sorte que même on portait de dessus son corps des mouchoirs et des linges sur les malades, et ils étaient guéris de leurs maladies, et les esprits malins sortaient des possédés.

Alors quelques-uns d’entre les Juifs exorcistes, qui couraient çà et là, essayèrent d’invoquer le Nom du Seigneur Jésus sur ceux qui étaient possédés des esprits malins, en disant : nous vous conjurons par ce Jésus que Paul prêche.

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

Mais le malin esprit répondant, dit : je connais Jésus, et je sais qui est Paul ; mais vous, qui êtes-vous ?

Et plusieurs de ceux qui avaient cru venaient, confessant et déclarant ce qu’ils avaient fait.

And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

Mais en ce temps-là il arriva un grand trouble, à cause de la doctrine.

Car un certain homme, nommé Démétrius, qui travaillait en argenterie, et faisait de petits temples d’argent de Diane, et qui apportait beaucoup de profit aux ouvriers du métier,

Or vous voyez et vous entendez comment non-seulement à Ephèse, mais presque par toute l’Asie, ce Paul-ci par ses persuasions a détourné beaucoup de monde, en disant que ceux-là ne sont point des dieux, qui sont faits de main.

Y veis y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Efeso, sino á muchas gentes de casi toda el Asia, ha apartado con persuasión, diciendo, que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.

Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

You see and hear that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods that are made with hands.

Et il n’y a pas seulement de danger pour nous que notre métier ne vienne à être décrié, mais aussi que le Temple de la grande déesse Diane ne soit plus rien estimé, et qu’il n’arrive que sa majesté, laquelle toute l’Asie et le monde universel révère, ne soit anéantie.

Y no solamente hay peligro de que este negocio se nos vuelva en reproche, sino también que el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea estimado en nada, y comience á ser destruída su majestad, la cual honra toda el Asia y el mundo.

So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”

Et quand ils eurent entendu ces choses, ils furent tous remplis de colère, et s’écrièrent, disant : grande est la Diane des Ephésiens !

Oídas estas cosas, llenáronse de ira, y dieron alarido, diciendo: ¡Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

Les uns donc criaient d’une façon, et les autres d’une autre, car l’Assemblée était confuse, et plusieurs même ne savaient pas pourquoi ils étaient assemblés.

But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

Mais le Secrétaire de la ville ayant apaisé cette multitude de peuple, dit : hommes Ephésiens, et qui est celui des hommes qui ne sache que la ville des Ephésiens est dédiée au service de la grande déesse Diane, et à son image, descendue de Jupiter ?

Entonces el escribano, apaciguado que hubo la gente, dijo: Varones Efesios, ¿y quién hay de los hombres que no sepa que la ciudad de los Efesios es honradora de la gran diosa Diana, y de la imagen venida de Júpiter?

And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?

Ces choses donc étant telles sans contradiction, il faut que vous vous apaisiez, et que vous ne fassiez rien imprudemment.

Así que, pues esto no puede ser contradicho, conviene que os apacigüéis, y que nada hagáis temerariamente;

Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

Car ces gens que vous avez amenés, ne sont ni sacrilèges, ni blasphémateurs de votre déesse.

For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

Mais si Démétrius et les ouvriers qui sont avec lui, ont quelque chose à dire contre quelqu’un, on tient la cour, et il y a des Proconsuls ; qu’ils s’y appellent donc les uns les autres.

Que si Demetrio y los oficiales que están con él tienen negocio con alguno, audiencias se hacen, y procónsules hay; acúsense los unos á los otros.

Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a matter against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.

Et si vous avez quelque autre chose à demander, cela se pourra décider dans une assemblée dûment convoquée.

Y si demandáis alguna otra cosa, en legítima asamblea se pueda decidir.

But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.

Car nous sommes en danger d’être accusés de sédition pour ce qui s’est passé aujourd’hui ; puisqu’il n’y a aucun sujet que nous puissions alléguer pour rendre raison de cette émeute. Et quand il eut dit ces choses, il congédia l’assemblée.

Porque peligro hay de que seamos argüidos de sedición por hoy, no habiendo ninguna causa por la cual podamos dar razón de este concurso. Y habiendo dicho esto, despidió la concurrencia.

For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning today’s riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn’t be able to give an account of this commotion.”
