Enquanto Apolo estava em Corinto, Paulo passou pelas regiões altas e veio para a cidade de Éfeso e encontrou alguns discípulos ali.

Y ACONTECIÓ que entre tanto que Apolos estaba en Corinto, Pablo, andadas las regiones superiores, vino á Efeso, y hallando ciertos discípulos,

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

Paulo perguntou-lhes: "Recebestes o Espírito Santo quando crestes?". Eles responderam: "Não, não recebemos. Nem fomos informados de que existe um Espírito Santo".

Díjoles: ¿Habéis recibido el Espíritu Santo después que creísteis? Y ellos le dijeron: Antes ni aun hemos oído si hay Espíritu Santo.

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Paulo disse: "Em que batismo fostes batizados, então?". Eles responderam: "No batismo de João.

Entonces dijo: ¿En qué pues sois bautizados? Y ellos dijeron: En el bautismo de Juan.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”

Paulo disse: "João batizou com batismo de arrependimento, dizendo às pessoas que deveriam crer Naquele que viria após ele, isto é, em Jesus".

Y dijo Pablo: Juan bautizó con bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo al pueblo que creyesen en el que había de venir después de él, es á saber, en Jesús el Cristo.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Christ Jesus.”

Quando ouviram isso, foram batizados no Nome do Senhor Jesus.

Então, Paulo lhes impôs as mãos, e o Espírito Santo veio sobre eles, e falaram em outras línguas e profetizaram.

Ao todo, foram cerca de doze homens.

Paulo foi à sinagoga e falou fervorosamente durante três meses. Ele liderava discussões e persudia as pessoas acerca das coisas concernentes ao reino de Deus.

Y entrando él dentro de la sinagoga, hablaba libremente por espacio de tres meses, disputando y persuadiendo del reino de Dios.

And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

No entanto alguns judeus endurecidos e desobedientes começaram a falar mal do caminho de Cristo diante da multidão. Paulo os deixou e guiou seus discípulos para longe deles. Ele começou a falar todos os dias na escola de Tirano.

Mas endureciéndose algunos y no creyendo, maldiciendo el Camino delante de la multitud, apartándose Pablo de ellos separó á los discípulos, disputando cada día en la escuela de un cierto Tyranno.

But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

Isso continuou por dois anos, e assim todos os que viviam na Ásia ouviram a Palavra do Senhor, tanto judeus como gregos.

Y esto fué por espacio de dos años; de manera que todos los que habitaban en Asia, Judíos y Griegos, oyeron la palabra del Señor Jesús.

And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

Deus estava fazendo obras poderosas pelas mãos de Paulo,

Y hacía Dios singulares maravillas por manos de Pablo:

e até mesmo os doentes eram curados, e os espíritos malignos saíam deles, quando pegavam lenços e aventais do corpo de Paulo.

De tal manera que aun se llevaban sobre los enfermos los sudarios y los pañuelos de su cuerpo, y las enfermedades se iban de ellos, y los malos espíritus salían de ellos.

So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

Porém havia judeus exorcistas viajando por aquela área, os quais usavam o nome de Jesus sobre aqueles possuídos de espíritos malignos, dizendo: "Eu vos expulso no nome de Jesus, a quem Paulo prega".

Y algunos de los Judíos, exorcistas vagabundos, tentaron á invocar el nombre del Señor Jesús sobre los que tenían espíritus malos, diciendo: Os conjuro por Jesús, el que Pablo predica.

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

But some of the itinerant Jews, exorcists, took on themselves to invoke over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.”

Aqueles que fizeram isso eram os sete filhos de Ceva, principal dos sacerdotes.

Y había siete hijos de un tal Sceva, Judío, príncipe de los sacerdotes, que hacían esto.

And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

Entretanto o espírito maligno respondeu: "Conheço Jesus e sei quem é Paulo, mas vós, quem sois?"

And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

O homem que estava possuído pelo espírito maligno saltou sobre os exorcistas e, subjulgando-os, espancou-os, de maneira que eles fugiram da casa, nus e feridos.

Isso se tornou conhecido de todos, tanto judeus como gregos que viviam em Éfeso. Temor caiu sobre todos eles, e o Nome de Jesus estava sendo glorificado.

And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

Muitos dos cristãos vinham, confessavam e admitiam suas obras más.

Y muchos de los que habían creído, venían, confesando y dando cuenta de sus hechos.

And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

Muitos dos que praticavam artes mágicas juntavam seus livros e os traziam para queimar diante de todos. E, ao contarem o valor dos livros, chegaram à quantia de cinquenta mil peças de prata.

Asimismo muchos de los que habían practicado vanas artes, trajeron los libros, y los quemaron delante de todos; y echada la cuenta del precio de ellos, hallaron ser cincuenta mil denarios.

Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

Assim a Palavra do Senhor crescia poderosamente de várias maneiras.

Así crecía poderosamente la palabra del Señor, y prevalecía.

Quando Paulo terminou seu trabalho em Éfeso, decidiu em espírito ir a Jerusalém, porém planejava antes ver os cristãos nas regiões da Macedônia e da Acaia. Disse Paulo: "Depois de ir a Jerusalém, irei também a Roma".

Y acabadas estas cosas, se propuso Pablo en espíritu partir á Jerusalem, después de andada Macedonia y Acaya, diciendo: Después que hubiere estado allá, me será menester ver también á Roma.

After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

Ele enviou dois de seus colaboradores, Timóteo e Erasto, à Macedônia. Entretanto Paulo permaneceu na cidade de Éfeso, na província da Ásia.

So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

Naquele mesmo tempo, levantou-se um grande alvoroço em Éfeso acerca do Caminho.

Certo ourives de prata chamado Demétrio, que fazia nichos de Diana, dava muito lucro para os artifíces.

Porque un platero llamado Demetrio, el cual hacía de plata templecillos de Diana, daba á los artífices no poca ganancia;

For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

Então, reunindo os artifíces do mesmo tipo de serviço, disse: "Senhores, vós bem sabeis que obtemos muito lucro deste negócio.

A los cuales, reunidos con los oficiales de semejante oficio, dijo: Varones, sabéis que de este oficio tenemos ganancia;

Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

E bem vedes e ouvis que não somente em Éfeso, mas praticamente por toda a Ásia, esse Paulo tem persuadido e afastado muitas pessoas. Ele está dizendo que não há deuses feitos por mãos humanas.

Y veis y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Efeso, sino á muchas gentes de casi toda el Asia, ha apartado con persuasión, diciendo, que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.

Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

You see and hear that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods that are made with hands.

Não há somente o perigo de nossa profissão ficar desacreditada, mas até mesmo o templo da nossa grande deusa Diana poderá vir a ser estimado como nada. Assim ela perderia sua grandeza, aquela a quem toda a Ásia e o mundo adoram".

Y no solamente hay peligro de que este negocio se nos vuelva en reproche, sino también que el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea estimado en nada, y comience á ser destruída su majestad, la cual honra toda el Asia y el mundo.

So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”

Quando ouviram isso, enfureceram-se e gritaram, dizendo: "Grande é a Diana dos Efésios".

Oídas estas cosas, llenáronse de ira, y dieron alarido, diciendo: ¡Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

Toda a cidade encheu-se de confusão, e todas as pessoas correram juntas para o teatro. Eles arrastaram os companheiros de Paulo, Gaio e Aristarco, que vieram da Macedônia.

Y la ciudad se llenó de confusión; y unánimes se arrojaron al teatro, arrebatando á Gayo y á Aristarco, Macedonios, compañeros de Pablo.

And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

Paulo queria entrar no meio do povo, porém os discípulos não permitiram.

Também alguns dos oficiais da província da Ásia, que eram seus amigos, enviaram-lhe uma mensagem rogando que não entrasse no teatro.

And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

Alguns clamavam de uma maneira, outros de outra, pois a multidão estava confusa. Muitos deles não sabiam nem porque estavam reunidos.

Y otros gritaban otra cosa; porque la concurrencia estaba confusa, y los más no sabían por qué se habían juntado.

Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

Os judeus tiraram Alexandre para fora da multidão, trazendo-o diante das pessoas. Alexandre, acenando com a mão, queria dar uma explicação ao povo.

Entretanto, quando perceberam que ele era judeu, gritaram em alta voz por cerca de duas horas: "Grande é a Diana dos Éfesios".

Mas como conocieron que era Judío, fué hecha un voz de todos, que gritaron casi por dos horas: ¡Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

But when they perceived that he was a Jew, all with one voice for a time of about two hours cried out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

Então o escrivão da cidade, aquietando a multidão, disse: "Homens de Éfeso, qual é o homem que não sabe que a cidade dos efésios é a guardiã do templo da grande Diana e da sua imagem que caiu do céu?

Entonces el escribano, apaciguado que hubo la gente, dijo: Varones Efesios, ¿y quién hay de los hombres que no sepa que la ciudad de los Efesios es honradora de la gran diosa Diana, y de la imagen venida de Júpiter?

And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?

Vendo, então, que essas coisas são inegáveis, convém que vos aquieteis e nada façais.

Así que, pues esto no puede ser contradicho, conviene que os apacigüéis, y que nada hagáis temerariamente;

Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

Seeing then that these things can’t be denied, you ought to be quiet and to do nothing rash.

Pois trouxestes esses homens a esta corte, os quais não são ladrões do templo, nem blasfemam contra nossa deusa.

Pues habéis traído á estos hombres, sin ser sacrílegos ni blasfemadores de vuestra diosa.

For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

Portanto, se Demétrio e os artifíces que estão com ele têm alguma acusação contra alguém, há cortes e magistrados. Que acusem uns aos outros.

Que si Demetrio y los oficiales que están con él tienen negocio con alguno, audiencias se hacen, y procónsules hay; acúsense los unos á los otros.

Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a matter against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.

Contudo, se demandais qualquer coisa concernente a outros assuntos, deverá ser averiguada em assembleia legítima.

Y si demandáis alguna otra cosa, en legítima asamblea se pueda decidir.

But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.

Na verdade, até corremos perigo de sermos acusados deste tumulto. Não há causa para esta desordem, a qual não poderemos explicar".

Porque peligro hay de que seamos argüidos de sedición por hoy, no habiendo ninguna causa por la cual podamos dar razón de este concurso. Y habiendo dicho esto, despidió la concurrencia.

For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning today’s riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn’t be able to give an account of this commotion.”
