Es begab sich aber, während Apollos in Korinth war, daß Paulus, nachdem er die obern Länder durchzogen hatte, nach Ephesus kam. Und als er etliche Jünger fand, sprach er zu ihnen:

Y ACONTECIÓ que entre tanto que Apolos estaba en Corinto, Pablo, andadas las regiones superiores, vino á Efeso, y hallando ciertos discípulos,

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

Habt ihr den heiligen Geist empfangen, als ihr gläubig wurdet? Sie aber sprachen: Wir haben nicht einmal gehört, ob ein heiliger Geist sei!

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Und er sprach zu ihnen: Worauf seid ihr denn getauft worden? Sie aber sprachen: Auf die Taufe des Johannes.

Entonces dijo: ¿En qué pues sois bautizados? Y ellos dijeron: En el bautismo de Juan.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”

Da sprach Paulus: Johannes hat mit der Taufe der Buße getauft und dem Volke gesagt, daß sie an den glauben sollten, der nach ihm komme, das heißt an Christus Jesus.

Y dijo Pablo: Juan bautizó con bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo al pueblo que creyesen en el que había de venir después de él, es á saber, en Jesús el Cristo.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Als sie das hörten, ließen sie sich taufen auf den Namen des Herrn Jesus.

Da aber etliche verstockt blieben und sich nicht überzeugen ließen, sondern den Weg vor der Menge lästerten, trennte er sich von ihnen und sonderte die Jünger ab und hielt täglich Gespräche in der Schule des Tyrannus.

Das geschah zwei Jahre lang, so daß alle, die in Asien wohnten, das Wort des Herrn hörten, Juden und Griechen.

Und Gott wirkte ungewöhnliche Wunder durch die Hände des Paulus,

Es unterwanden sich aber etliche der herumziehenden jüdischen Beschwörer, über denen, welche böse Geister hatten, den Namen des Herrn Jesus zu nennen, indem sie sagten: Ich beschwöre euch bei dem Jesus, welchen Paulus predigt!

Y algunos de los Judíos, exorcistas vagabundos, tentaron á invocar el nombre del Señor Jesús sobre los que tenían espíritus malos, diciendo: Os conjuro por Jesús, el que Pablo predica.

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

Es waren aber sieben Söhne eines jüdischen Hohenpriesters Skevas, die solches taten.

Aber der böse Geist antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Jesus kenne ich wohl, und von Paulus weiß ich; wer aber seid ihr?

Und der Mensch, in welchem der böse Geist war, sprang auf sie los, überwältigte zwei von ihnen und zeigte ihnen dermaßen seine Kraft, daß sie nackt und verwundet aus jenem Hause entflohen.

Und viele von denen, die gläubig geworden waren, kamen und bekannten und erzählten ihre Taten.

So wuchs das Wort des Herrn mächtig und gewann die Oberhand.

Nachdem aber solches vollbracht war, nahm sich Paulus im Geiste vor, durch Mazedonien und Achaja zu ziehen und nach Jerusalem zu reisen, indem er sprach: Wenn ich dort gewesen bin, muß ich auch Rom sehen.

Y acabadas estas cosas, se propuso Pablo en espíritu partir á Jerusalem, después de andada Macedonia y Acaya, diciendo: Después que hubiere estado allá, me será menester ver también á Roma.

Er sandte aber zwei seiner Gehilfen, Timotheus und Erastus, nach Mazedonien und hielt sich noch eine Zeitlang in Asien auf.

Es entstand aber um jene Zeit ein nicht unbedeutender Aufruhr um des Weges willen.

Entonces hubo un alboroto no pequeño acerca del Camino.

Denn ein gewisser Demetrius, ein Silberschmied, verfertigte silberne Tempel der Diana und verschaffte den Künstlern nicht unbedeutenden Gewinn.

Diese versammelte er samt den Arbeitern desselben Faches und sprach: Ihr Männer, ihr wisset, daß von diesem Gewerbe unser Wohlstand kommt.

Und ihr sehet und höret, daß dieser Paulus nicht allein in Ephesus, sondern fast in ganz Asien viel Volk überredet und abwendig gemacht hat, indem er sagt, das seien keine Götter, die mit Händen gemacht werden.

Y veis y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Efeso, sino á muchas gentes de casi toda el Asia, ha apartado con persuasión, diciendo, que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.

Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

You see and hear that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods that are made with hands.

Aber es besteht nicht nur die Gefahr, daß dieses unser Geschäft in Verfall komme, sondern auch, daß der Tempel der großen Göttin Diana für nichts geachtet und zuletzt auch ihre Majestät gestürzt werde, welche doch ganz Asien und der Erdkreis verehrt!

Y no solamente hay peligro de que este negocio se nos vuelva en reproche, sino también que el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea estimado en nada, y comience á ser destruída su majestad, la cual honra toda el Asia y el mundo.

So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”

Als sie das hörten, wurden sie voll Zorn und schrieen: Groß ist die Diana der Epheser!

And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

Da aber Paulus unter das Volk gehen wollte, ließen es ihm die Jünger nicht zu.

And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

Hier schrie nun alles durcheinander; denn die Versammlung war in der größten Verwirrung, und die Mehrzahl wußte nicht, weswegen sie zusammengekommen waren.

Als sie aber vernahmen, daß er ein Jude sei, schrieen sie alle wie aus einem Munde etwa zwei Stunden lang: Groß ist die Diana der Epheser!

Da beruhigte der Stadtschreiber das Volk und sprach: Ihr Männer von Ephesus, wo ist denn ein Mensch, der nicht wüßte, daß die Stadt Ephesus die Tempelpflegerin der großen Diana und des vom Himmel gefallenen Bildes ist?

And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?

Da nun solches unwidersprechlich ist, so solltet ihr ruhig sein und nichts Übereiltes tun.

Así que, pues esto no puede ser contradicho, conviene que os apacigüéis, y que nada hagáis temerariamente;

Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

Denn ihr habt diese Männer hergeführt, die weder Tempelräuber sind, noch unsere Göttin gelästert haben.

Haben aber Demetrius und die Künstler, die mit ihm sind, an jemand einen Anspruch, so werden Gerichtstage gehalten, und es sind Statthalter da; sie mögen einander verklagen!

Que si Demetrio y los oficiales que están con él tienen negocio con alguno, audiencias se hacen, y procónsules hay; acúsense los unos á los otros.

Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a matter against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.

Habt ihr aber ein weiteres Begehren zu stellen, so wird es in der gesetzlichen Versammlung erledigt werden.

Y si demandáis alguna otra cosa, en legítima asamblea se pueda decidir.

But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.

Denn wir stehen in Gefahr, daß wir des heutigen Tages wegen des Aufruhrs angeklagt werden, weil kein Grund vorliegt, womit wir diese Zusammenrottung entschuldigen könnten.

Porque peligro hay de que seamos argüidos de sedición por hoy, no habiendo ninguna causa por la cual podamos dar razón de este concurso. Y habiendo dicho esto, despidió la concurrencia.

For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning today’s riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn’t be able to give an account of this commotion.”
