1He dado un relato anterior, oh Teófilo, de todas las cosas que hizo Jesús, y de su enseñanza desde el principio,
2Hasta el día en que fue llevado al cielo después de haber dado sus órdenes, por medio del Espíritu Santo, a los apóstoles de los cuales hizo una selección.
3Y a los cuales dio claras y ciertas señales de que estaba vivo, después de su muerte; porque fue visto por ellos durante cuarenta días, y les dio enseñanza acerca del reino de Dios.
4Y cuando estaban todos juntos, con él, les ordenó que no se fueran de Jerusalén, sino que se quedaran allí, esperando hasta que La palabra del Padre se cumpliera, de la cual, él dijo: les he hablado:
5Porque el bautismo de Juan fue con agua, pero serán bautizados con el Espíritu Santo, en pocos días.
6Y cuando estaban juntos, le dijeron: Señor, ¿vas a restablecer el reino a Israel?
7Y les dijo: No les toca a ustedes conocer el tiempo y el orden de los acontecimientos que el Padre ha conservado bajo su control.
8Pero tendrán poder, cuando el Espíritu Santo haya venido sobre ustedes; y ustedes serán mis testigos en Jerusalén y en toda Judea y Samaria, y hasta los confines de la tierra.
9Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, mientras miraban, fue tomado, y se fue de su vista en una nube.
10Y mientras miraban al cielo con gran atención, dos hombres vinieron a ellos, vestidos de blanco,
11Y dijeron: ¡Varones galileos! ¿Por qué están mirando al cielo? Este Jesús, que fue llevado de ustedes al cielo, vendrá de nuevo, de la misma manera en que lo viste ir al cielo.
12Luego regresaron a Jerusalén desde el monte llamado Olivos, que está cerca de Jerusalén, a una distancia corta, que la ley permitía caminar en el día sábado, día de reposo.
13Y cuando ellos entraron, subieron al piso alto donde estaban alojados; Pedro y Juan y Santiago y Andrés, Felipe y Tomás, Bartolomé y Mateo, Santiago, el hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas, el hijo de Jacobo.
14Y todos ellos con una sola mente, se entregaron a la oración con las mujeres, y María la madre de Jesús, y sus hermanos.
15Y en aquellos días Pedro se levantó entre los hermanos (había unos ciento veinte) y dijo:
16Hermanos míos, la palabra de Dios debía ser llevada a efecto, lo cual el Espíritu Santo había dicho antes, por la boca de David, acerca de Judas, que fue guía de los que tomaron a Jesús,
17Porque fue contado entre nosotros, y tuvo su parte en nuestra obra.
18Ahora este hombre, con la recompensa de su maldad, consiguió un campo, y al caer de cabeza, se reventó y se le salieron todos los intestinos llegó a un fin repentino.
19Y esto llegó al conocimiento de todos los que vivían en Jerusalén, por lo que el campo fue nombrado en su idioma, Aceldama, o, el campo de sangre.
20Porque en el libro de los Salmos dice: Sea un desierto su casa, y ningún hombre viva en ella; y su cargo sea tomado por otro.
21Por esta razón, de los hombres que han estado con nosotros todo el tiempo, mientras el Señor Jesús entraba y salía entre nosotros,
22A partir del bautismo de Juan hasta que él se levantó de nosotros, uno tendrá que ser agregado como testigo con nosotros de su resurrección.
23Y seleccionaron a dos, José, llamado Barsabas, cuyo otro nombre era Justus, y Matías.
24Y ellos hicieron oraciones y dijeron: Señor, tú que tienes conocimiento de los corazones de todos los hombres, aclara cuál de estos dos ha sido marcado por ti,
25Para tomar esa posición como un siervo y Apóstol, de quien Judas perdió por su pecado, para que él pueda ir a su lugar.
26Y lo pusieron por suerte, y la decisión fue dada por Matías, y fue contado con los once Apóstoles.

1EN el primer tratado, oh Teófilo, he hablado de todas las cosas que Jesús comenzó á hacer y á enseñar,
2Hasta el día en que, habiendo dado mandamientos por el Espíritu Santo á los apóstoles que escogió, fué recibido arriba;
3A los cuales, después de haber padecido, se presentó vivo con muchas pruebas indubitables, apareciéndoles por cuarenta días, y hablándoles del reino de Dios.
4Y estando juntos, les mandó que no se fuesen de Jerusalem, sino que esperasen la promesa del Padre, que oísteis, dijo, de mí.
5Porque Juan á la verdad bautizó con agua, mas vosotros seréis bautizados con el Espíritu Santo no muchos días después de estos.
6Entonces los que se habían juntado le preguntaron, diciendo: Señor, ¿restituirás el reino á Israel en este tiempo?
7Y les dijo: No toca á vosotros saber los tiempos ó las sazones que el Padre puso en su sola potestad;
8Mas recibiréis la virtud del Espíritu Santo que vendrá sobre vosotros; y me sereís testigos en Jerusalem, y en toda Judea, y Samaria, y hasta lo último de la tierra.
9Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, viéndolo ellos, fué alzado; y una nube le recibió y le quitó de sus ojos.
10Y estando con los ojos puestos en el cielo, entre tanto que él iba, he aquí dos varones se pusieron junto á ellos en vestidos blancos;
11Los cuales también les dijeron: Varones Galileos, ¿qué estáis mirando al cielo? este mismo Jesús que ha sido tomado desde vosotros arriba en el cielo, así vendrá como le habéis visto ir al cielo.
12Entonces se volvieron á Jerusalem del monte que se llama del Olivar, el cual está cerca de Jerusalem camino de un sábado.
13Y entrados, subieron al aposento alto, donde moraban Pedro y Jacobo, y Juan y Andrés, Felipe y Tomás, Bartolomé y Mateo, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, y Simón Zelotes, y Judas hermano de Jacobo.
14Todos éstos perseveraban unánimes en oración y ruego, con las mujeres, y con María la madre de Jesús, y con sus hermanos.
15Y en aquellos días, Pedro, levantándose en medio de los hermanos, dijo (y era la compañía junta como de ciento y veinte en número):
16Varones hermanos, convino que se cumpliese la Escritura, la cual dijo antes el Espíritu Santo por la boca de David, de Judas, que fué guía de los que prendieron á Jesús;
17El cuál era contado con nosotros, y tenía suerte en este ministerio.
18Este, pues, adquirió un campo del salario de su iniquidad, y colgándose, reventó por medio, y todas sus entrañas se derramaron.
19Y fué notorio á todos los moradores de Jerusalem; de tal manera que aquel campo es llamado en su propia lengua, Acéldama, que es, Campo de sangre.
20Porque está escrito en el libro de los salmos: Sea hecha desierta su habitación, y no haya quien more en ella; y: Tome otro su obispado.
21Conviene, pues, que de estos hombres que han estado juntos con nosotros todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús entró y salió entre nosotros,
22Comenzando desde el bautismo de Juan, hasta el día que fué recibido arriba de entre nosotros, uno sea hecho testigo con nosotros de su resurrección.
23Y señalaron á dos: á José, llamado Barsabas, que tenía por sobrenombre Justo, y á Matías.
24Y orando, dijeron: Tú, Señor, que conoces los corazones de todos, muestra cuál escoges de estos dos,
25Para que tome el oficio de este ministerio y apostolado, del cual cayó Judas por transgresión, para irse á su lugar.
26Y les echaron suertes, y cayó la suerte sobre Matías; y fué contado con los once apóstoles.

1The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.
13And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
15And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)
16Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
17For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
18Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
19And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
20For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.
21Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
23And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
24And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
25That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
26And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

1The first book I wrote, Theophilus, concerned all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,
2until the day in which he was received up, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
3To these he also showed himself alive after he suffered, by many proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking about God’s Kingdom.
4Being assembled together with them, he commanded them, “Don’t depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me.
5For John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
6Therefore, when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you now restoring the kingdom to Israel?”
7He said to them, “It isn’t for you to know times or seasons which the Father has set within his own authority.
8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”
9When he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10While they were looking steadfastly into the sky as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing,
11who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.”
12Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.
13When they had come in, they went up into the upper room where they were staying, that is Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.
14All these with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
15In these days, Peter stood up in the middle of the disciples (and the number of names was about one hundred twenty), and said,
16“Brothers, it was necessary that this Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to those who took Jesus.
17For he was counted with us, and received his portion in this ministry.
18Now this man obtained a field with the reward for his wickedness; and falling headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines gushed out.
19It became known to everyone who lived in Jerusalem that in their language that field was called ‘Akeldama,’ that is, ‘The field of blood.’
20For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his habitation be made desolate. Let no one dwell in it;’ and, ‘Let another take his office.’
21“Of the men therefore who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22beginning from the baptism of John to the day that he was received up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

24They prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two you have chosen
