Paulus blickte nun den Hohen Rat fest an und sagte: »Werte Brüder! Ich habe bis heute meinen Wandel mit durchaus reinem Gewissen im Dienste Gottes geführt.«

ENTONCES Pablo, poniendo los ojos en el concilio, dice: Varones hermanos, yo con toda buena conciencia he conversado delante de Dios hasta el día de hoy.

And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

Paul, looking steadfastly at the council, said, “Brothers, I have lived before God in all good conscience until today.”

Da befahl der Hohepriester Ananias den neben ihm stehenden (Gerichtsdienern), ihn auf den Mund zu schlagen.

El príncipe de los sacerdotes, Ananías, mandó entonces á los que estaban delante de él, que le hiriesen en la boca.

And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

The high priest, Ananias, commanded those who stood by him to strike him on the mouth.

Paulus aber rief ihm zu: »Dich wird Gott schlagen, du getünchte Wand! Du sitzest da, um mich nach dem Gesetz zu richten, und läßt mich unter Verletzung des Gesetzes schlagen?«

Entonces Pablo le dijo: Herirte ha Dios, pared blanqueada: ¿y estás tú sentado para juzgarme conforme á la ley, y contra la ley me mandas herir?

Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to judge me according to the law, and command me to be struck contrary to the law?”

Da sagten die neben ihm Stehenden: »Den Hohenpriester Gottes schmähst du?«

Y los que estaban presentes dijeron: ¿Al sumo sacerdote de Dios maldices?

And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?

Those who stood by said, “Do you malign God’s high priest?”

Da antwortete Paulus: »Ich habe nicht gewußt, ihr Brüder, daß er Hoherpriester ist! Es steht ja geschrieben: ›Einen Obersten deines Volkes sollst du nicht schmähen!‹«

Y Pablo dijo: No sabía, hermanos, que era el sumo sacerdote; pues escrito está: Al príncipe de tu pueblo no maldecirás.

Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

Paul said, “I didn’t know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”

Weil Paulus nun wußte, daß der eine Teil (des Hohen Rates) aus Sadduzäern, der andere aus Pharisäern bestand, rief er laut in die Versammlung hinein: »Werte Brüder! Ich bin ein Pharisäer und aus pharisäischer Familie! Wegen unserer Hoffnung, nämlich wegen der Auferstehung der Toten, stehe ich hier vor Gericht!«

Entonces Pablo, sabiendo que la una parte era de Saduceos, y la otra de Fariseos, clamó en el concilio: Varones hermanos, yo soy Fariseo, hijo de Fariseo: de la esperanza y de la resurrección de los muertos soy yo juzgado.

But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”

Infolge dieser seiner Äußerung entstand ein Streit zwischen den Pharisäern und Sadduzäern, und die Versammlung spaltete sich.

Y como hubo dicho esto, fué hecha disensión entre los Fariseos y los Saduceos; y la multitud fué dividida.

And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

When he had said this, an argument arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the crowd was divided.

Die Sadduzäer behaupten nämlich, es gebe keine Auferstehung, auch keine Engel und keine Geister, während die Pharisäer beides annehmen.

Porque los Saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángel, ni espíritu; mas los Fariseos confiesan ambas cosas.

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

So erhob sich denn ein gewaltiges Geschrei; ja, einige Schriftgelehrte von der pharisäischen Partei standen auf, hielten Streitreden und erklärten: »Wir finden nichts Unrechtes an diesem Mann! Kann nicht wirklich ein Geist oder ein Engel zu ihm geredet haben?«

Y levantóse un gran clamor: y levantándose los escribas de la parte de los Fariseos, contendían diciendo: Ningún mal hallamos en este hombre; que si espíritu le ha hablado, ó ángel, no resistamos á Dios.

And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ part stood up, and contended, saying, “We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or angel has spoken to him, let’s not fight against God!”

Als nun der Streit leidenschaftlich wurde und der Oberst befürchtete, Paulus möchte von ihnen zerrissen werden, ließ er seine Mannschaft herunterkommen, ihn aus ihrer Mitte herausreißen und in die Burg zurückführen.

Y habiendo grande disensión, el tribuno, teniendo temor de que Pablo fuese despedazado de ellos, mandó venir soldados, y arrebatarle de en medio de ellos, y llevarle á la fortaleza.

And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

When a great argument arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them and bring him into the barracks.

In der folgenden Nacht aber trat der Herr zu Paulus und sagte: »Sei getrost! Denn wie du für mich in Jerusalem Zeugnis abgelegt hast, so sollst du auch in Rom Zeuge (für mich) sein!«

Y la noche siguiente, presentándosele el Señor, le dijo: Confía, Pablo; que como has testificado de mí en Jerusalem, así es menester testifiques también en Roma.

And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

The following night, the Lord stood by him and said, “Cheer up, Paul, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must testify also at Rome.”

Als es aber Tag geworden war, rotteten sich die Juden zusammen und verschworen sich unter feierlicher Selbstverfluchung, weder Speise noch Trank zu sich zu nehmen, bis sie Paulus ums Leben gebracht hätten.

Y venido el día, algunos de los Judíos se juntaron, é hicieron voto bajo de maldición, diciendo que ni comerían ni beberían hasta que hubiesen muerto á Pablo.

And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

Es waren ihrer aber mehr als vierzig, die sich zu dieser Verschwörung zusammengetan hatten.

Diese begaben sich nun zu den Hohenpriestern und Ältesten und sagten: »Wir haben uns hoch und heilig verschworen, nichts zu genießen, bis wir Paulus ums Leben gebracht haben.

Los cuales se fueron á los príncipes de los sacerdotes y á los ancianos, y dijeron: Nosotros hemos hecho voto debajo de maldición, que no hemos de gustar nada hasta que hayamos muerto á Pablo.

And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

Werdet ihr jetzt also zusammen mit dem Hohen Rat bei dem Oberst vorstellig, er möge ihn zu euch herabführen lassen, weil ihr seine Sache noch genauer zu untersuchen gedächtet; wir halten uns dann bereit, ihn zu ermorden, noch ehe er in eure Nähe kommt.«

Ahora pues, vosotros, con el concilio, requerid al tribuno que le saque mañana á vosotros como que queréis entender de él alguna cosa más cierta; y nosotros, antes que él llegue, estaremos aparejados para matarle.

Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.

Now therefore, you with the council inform the commanding officer that he should bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you were going to judge his case more exactly. We are ready to kill him before he comes near.”

Von diesem Anschlag erhielt jedoch der Schwestersohn des Paulus Kenntnis; er begab sich deshalb hin, verschaffte sich Eingang in die Burg und machte dem Paulus Mitteilung von der Sache.

Entonces un hijo de la hermana de Pablo, oyendo las asechanzas, fué, y entró en la fortaleza, y dió aviso á Pablo.

And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

Da ließ Paulus einen von den Hauptleuten zu sich rufen und bat ihn: »Führe doch diesen jungen Mann zum Obersten, denn er hat ihm etwas zu melden.«

Y Pablo, llamando á uno de los centuriones, dice: Lleva á este mancebo al tribuno, porque tiene cierto aviso que darle.

Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.

Paul summoned one of the centurions and said, “Bring this young man to the commanding officer, for he has something to tell him.”

Der nahm ihn mit sich, führte ihn zu dem Obersten und meldete: »Der Gefangene Paulus hat mich zu sich rufen lassen und mich ersucht, diesen jungen Mann zu dir zu führen, weil er dir etwas mitzuteilen habe.«

El entonces tomándole, le llevó al tribuno, y dijo: El preso Pablo, llamándome, me rogó que trajese á ti este mancebo, que tiene algo que hablarte.

So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.

So he took him and brought him to the commanding officer and said, “Paul, the prisoner, summoned me and asked me to bring this young man to you. He has something to tell you.”

Der Oberst nahm ihn darauf bei der Hand, trat (mit ihm) beiseite und fragte ihn unter vier Augen: »Was hast du mir zu melden?«

Y el tribuno, tomándole de la mano y retirándose aparte, le preguntó: ¿Qué es lo que tienes que decirme?

Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?

The commanding officer took him by the hand, and going aside, asked him privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”

Da berichtete er: »Die Juden haben sich verabredet, dich zu bitten, du möchtest morgen Paulus vor den Hohen Rat hinabführen lassen, angeblich weil dieser noch eine genauere Untersuchung seiner Sache vornehmen wolle.

Y él dijo: Los Judíos han concertado rogarte que mañana saques á Pablo al concilio, como que han de inquirir de él alguna cosa más cierta.

And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.

He said, “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though intending to inquire somewhat more accurately concerning him.

Glaube du ihnen aber nicht! Denn mehr als vierzig Männer von ihnen trachten ihm nach dem Leben; die haben sich feierlich verschworen, weder Speise noch Trank zu sich zu nehmen, bis sie ihn ermordet haben; und sie halten sich jetzt schon dazu bereit und warten nur noch auf deine Zusage.«

Mas tú no los creas; porque más de cuarenta hombres de ellos le acechan, los cuales han hecho voto debajo de maldición, de no comer ni beber hasta que le hayan muerto; y ahora están apercibidos esperando tu promesa.

But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

Therefore don’t yield to them, for more than forty men lie in wait for him, who have bound themselves under a curse to neither eat nor drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, looking for the promise from you.”

Der Oberst entließ darauf den jungen Mann mit der Weisung, niemandem zu verraten, daß er ihm diese Mitteilung gemacht habe.

Entonces el tribuno despidió al mancebo, mandándole que á nadie dijese que le había dado aviso de esto.

So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

So the commanding officer let the young man go, charging him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”

Danach ließ er zwei von seinen Hauptleuten zu sich kommen und befahl ihnen: »Haltet zweihundert Mann für einen Marsch nach Cäsarea bereit, ferner siebzig Reiter und zweihundert Lanzenträger, von der dritten Stunde der Nacht an.«

Y llamados dos centuriones, mandó que apercibiesen para la hora tercia de la noche doscientos soldados, que fuesen hasta Cesarea, y setenta de á caballo, y doscientos lanceros;

And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Cæsarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

He called to himself two of the centurions, and said, “Prepare two hundred soldiers to go as far as Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred men armed with spears, at the third hour of the night.”

Auch Reittiere sollten sie bereithalten, um Paulus beritten zu machen und ihn sicher zum Statthalter Felix zu bringen.

Y que aparejasen cabalgaduras en que poniendo á Pablo, le llevasen en salvo á Félix el Presidente.

And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

He asked them to provide mounts, that they might set Paul on one, and bring him safely to Felix the governor.

Dieser Mann war von den Juden festgenommen worden und schwebte in Gefahr, von ihnen totgeschlagen zu werden; da griff ich mit meinen Leuten ein und befreite ihn, weil ich erfahren hatte, daß er ein römischer Bürger sei.

A este hombre, aprehendido de los Judíos, y que iban ellos á matar, libré yo acudiendo con la tropa, habiendo entendido que era Romano.

This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

“This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be killed by them when I came with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.

Da ich nun den Grund festzustellen wünschte, weswegen sie ihn verklagten, führte ich ihn vor ihren Hohen Rat hinab.

Y queriendo saber la causa por qué le acusaban, le llevé al concilio de ellos:

And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

Desiring to know the cause why they accused him, I brought him down to their council.

Dabei fand ich, daß man ihn wegen Streitfragen über ihr Gesetz verklagte, daß aber keine Anschuldigung, auf welche Todesstrafe oder Gefängnis steht, gegen ihn vorlag.

Y hallé que le acusaban de cuestiones de la ley de ellos, y que ningún crimen tenía digno de muerte ó de prisión.

Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

I found him to be accused about questions of their law, but not to be charged with anything worthy of death or of imprisonment.

Weil dann aber die Anzeige bei mir einging, daß ein Mordanschlag gegen den Mann geplant werde, habe ich ihn sofort von hier weg zu dir gesandt und zugleich seine Ankläger angewiesen, ihre Sache gegen ihn bei dir anhängig zu machen. Lebe wohl!«

Mas siéndome dado aviso de asechanzas que le habían aparejado los Judíos, luego al punto le he enviado á ti, intimando también á los acusadores que traten delante de ti lo que tienen contra él. Pásalo bien.

And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

When I was told that the Jews lay in wait for the man, I sent him to you immediately, charging his accusers also to bring their accusations against him before you. Farewell.”

Die Soldaten nahmen nun dem erhaltenen Befehl gemäß Paulus mit sich und brachten ihn während der Nacht nach Antipatris;

Y los soldados, tomando á Pablo como les era mandado, lleváronle de noche á Antipatris.

Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.

am folgenden Tage ließen sie dann die Reiter (allein) mit ihm weiterziehen, während sie selbst in die Burg zurückkehrten.

Y al día siguiente, dejando á los de á caballo que fuesen con él, se volvieron á la fortaleza.

On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

But on the next day they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the barracks.

Nach ihrer Ankunft in Cäsarea händigten jene dem Statthalter das Schreiben ein und führten ihm auch den Paulus vor.

Y como llegaron á Cesarea, y dieron la carta al gobernador, presentaron también á Pablo delante de él.

Who, when they came to Cæsarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

When they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him.

Nachdem der Statthalter (das Schreiben) gelesen hatte, fragte er (Paulus), aus welcher Provinz er sei; und als er erfuhr, daß er aus Cilicien stamme, erklärte er:

Y el gobernador, leída la carta, preguntó de qué provincia era; y entendiendo que de Cilicia,

And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;

When the governor had read it, he asked what province he was from. When he understood that he was from Cilicia, he said,

»Ich werde dich verhören, wenn auch deine Ankläger hier eingetroffen sind.« Zugleich befahl er, ihn in der Statthalterei des Herodes in Gewahrsam zu halten.

Te oiré, dijo, cuando vinieren tus acusadores. Y mandó que le guardasen en el pretorio de Herodes.

I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.

“I will hear you fully when your accusers also arrive.” He commanded that he be kept in Herod’s palace.
