Als Festus nun die Statthalterschaft in der Provinz angetreten hatte, begab er sich drei Tage später von Cäsarea nach Jerusalem hinauf.

FESTO pues, entrado en la provincia, tres días después subió de Cesarea á Jerusalem.

Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Cæsarea to Jerusalem.

Festus therefore, having come into the province, after three days went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.

Da wurden die Hohenpriester und die vornehmsten Juden bei ihm in der Sache gegen Paulus vorstellig und trugen ihm ihr Anliegen vor,

Y vinieron á él los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los principales de los Judíos contra Pablo; y le rogaron,

Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,

Then the high priest and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul, and they begged him,

wobei sie es sich als besondere Vergünstigung wider ihn (Paulus) erbaten, daß er ihn nach Jerusalem bringen lasse; sie planten nämlich einen Anschlag, um ihn unterwegs zu ermorden.

Pidiendo gracia contra él, que le hiciese traer á Jerusalem, poniendo ellos asechanzas para matarle en el camino.

And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.

asking a favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem, plotting to kill him on the way.

Da gab Festus ihnen zur Antwort, Paulus werde in Cäsarea in Haft gehalten und er selbst werde binnen kurzem (wieder dahin) abreisen.

Mas Festo respondió, que Pablo estaba guardado en Cesarea, y que él mismo partiría presto.

But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Cæsarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.

However Festus answered that Paul should be kept in custody at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to depart shortly.

»Darum mögen«, fuhr er fort, »Bevollmächtigte aus eurer Mitte mit mir hinabkommen und die Anklage gegen ihn erheben, wenn eine Verschuldung bei dem Manne vorliegt.«

Los que de vosotros pueden, dijo, desciendan juntamente; y si hay algún crimen en este varón, acúsenle.

Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.

“Let them therefore”, he said, “that are in power among you go down with me, and if there is anything wrong in the man, let them accuse him.”

Nachdem er sich dann höchstens acht oder zehn Tage bei ihnen aufgehalten hatte, kehrte er nach Cäsarea zurück, hielt am folgenden Tage eine Gerichtssitzung ab und ließ Paulus vorführen.

Y deteniéndose entre ellos no más de ocho ó diez días, venido á Cesarea, el siguiente día se sentó en el tribunal, y mandó que Pablo fuese traído.

And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Cæsarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.

When he had stayed among them more than ten days, he went down to Caesarea, and on the next day he sat on the judgment seat, and commanded Paul to be brought.

Als dieser erschienen war, umringten ihn die Juden, die aus Jerusalem gekommen waren, und brachten viele schwere Beschuldigungen gegen ihn vor, die sie aber nicht zu beweisen vermochten,

El cual venido, le rodearon los Judíos que habían venido de Jerusalem, poniendo contra Pablo muchas y graves acusaciones, las cuales no podían probar;

And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.

When he had come, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing against him many and grievous charges which they could not prove,

während Paulus in seiner Verteidigung dartat: »Ich habe mich weder gegen das jüdische Gesetz noch gegen den Tempel noch gegen den Kaiser irgendwie vergangen.«

Alegando él por su parte: Ni contra la ley de los Judíos, ni contra el templo, ni contra César he pecado en nada.

While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Cæsar, have I offended any thing at all.

while he said in his defense, “Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all.”

Weil Festus sich aber die Juden zu Dank verpflichten wollte, legte er dem Paulus die Frage vor: »Willst du nach Jerusalem hinaufgehen und dich dort in dieser Sache vor mir richten lassen?«

Mas Festo, queriendo congraciarse con los Judíos, respondiendo á Pablo, dijo: ¿Quieres subir á Jerusalem, y allá ser juzgado de estas cosas delante de mí?

But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and be judged by me there concerning these things?”

Da antwortete Paulus: »Ich stehe hier vor des Kaisers Richterstuhl, und hier habe ich auch mein Urteil zu empfangen. Den Juden habe ich nichts zuleide getan, wie du selbst ganz genau weißt.

Y Pablo dijo: Ante el tribunal de César estoy, donde conviene que sea juzgado. A los Judíos no he hecho injuria ninguna, como tú sabes muy bien.

Then said Paul, I stand at Cæsar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.

But Paul said, “I am standing before Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you also know very well.

Wenn ich nun im Unrecht bin und ein todeswürdiges Verbrechen begangen habe, so weigere ich mich nicht, zu sterben; wenn aber an den Beschuldigungen, die diese gegen mich vorbringen, nichts Wahres ist, so darf mich niemand ihnen zuliebe preisgeben. Ich lege Berufung an den Kaiser ein!«

Porque si alguna injuria, ó cosa alguna digna de muerte he hecho, no rehuso morir; mas si nada hay de las cosas de que éstos me acusan, nadie puede darme á ellos. A César apelo.

For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Cæsar.

For if I have done wrong and have committed anything worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die; but if none of those things is true that they accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”

Darauf besprach sich Festus mit seinen Räten und gab dann den Bescheid ab: »An den Kaiser hast du Berufung eingelegt: vor den Kaiser sollst du kommen!«

Entonces Festo, habiendo hablado con el consejo, respondió: ¿A César has apelado? á César irás.

Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Cæsar? unto Cæsar shalt thou go.

Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, “You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you shall go.”

Einige Tage später kamen der König Agrippa und (seine Schwester) Bernice nach Cäsarea, um dem Festus ihren Besuch zu machen.

Y pasados algunos días, el rey Agripa y Bernice vinieron á Cesarea á saludar á Festo.

And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Cæsarea to salute Festus.

Now when some days had passed, King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea and greeted Festus.

Während ihres mehrtägigen Aufenthalts daselbst legte Festus dem König die Sache des Paulus vor mit den Worten: »Hier ist von Felix ein Mann als Gefangener zurückgelassen worden,

Y como estuvieron allí muchos días, Festo declaró la causa de Pablo al rey, diciendo: Un hombre ha sido dejado preso por Félix,

And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:

As he stayed there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying, “There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;

gegen den während meiner Anwesenheit in Jerusalem die Hohenpriester und die Ältesten der Juden bei mir vorstellig geworden sind und dessen Verurteilung sie von mir verlangt haben.

Sobre el cual, cuando fuí á Jerusalem, vinieron á mí los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los ancianos de los Judíos, pidiendo condenación contra él:

About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.

about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for a sentence against him.

Ich habe ihnen zur Antwort gegeben, bei den Römern sei es nicht üblich, einen Menschen aus Gefälligkeit preiszugeben, bevor nicht der Angeklagte seinen Anklägern persönlich gegenübergestanden und Gelegenheit zur Verteidigung gegen die Anklage erhalten habe.

A los cuales respondí, no ser costumbre de los Romanos dar alguno á la muerte antes que el que es acusado tenga presentes sus acusadores, y haya lugar de defenderse de la acusación.

To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.

I answered them that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man to destruction before the accused has met the accusers face to face and has had opportunity to make his defense concerning the matter laid against him.

Als sie dann hierher gekommen waren, habe ich unverzüglich schon am nächsten Tage eine Gerichtssitzung abgehalten und den Mann vorführen lassen.

Así que, habiendo venido ellos juntos acá, sin ninguna dilación, al día siguiente, sentado en el tribunal, mandé traer al hombre;

Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.

When therefore they had come together here, I didn’t delay, but on the next day sat on the judgment seat and commanded the man to be brought.

Die Ankläger traten auf, brachten aber über ihn keine Beschuldigung wegen schwerer Verbrechen vor, wie ich erwartet hatte,

Y estando presentes los acusadores, ningún cargo produjeron de los que yo sospechaba:

Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:

When the accusers stood up, they brought no charges against him of such things as I supposed;

sondern sie hatten gegen ihn nur einige Streitfragen bezüglich ihrer besonderen Gottesverehrung sowie bezüglich eines gewissen Jesus, der bereits tot ist, von dem Paulus aber behauptete, daß er lebe.

Solamente tenían contra él ciertas cuestiones acerca de su superstición, y de un cierto Jesús, difunto, el cual Pablo afirmaba que estaba vivo.

But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

Da ich mich nun auf die Untersuchung dieser Dinge nicht verstand, fragte ich ihn, ob er nicht nach Jerusalem gehen und sich dort hierüber das Urteil sprechen lassen wollte.

Y yo, dudando en cuestión semejante, dije, si quería ir á Jerusalem, y allá ser juzgado de estas cosas.

And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.

Being perplexed how to inquire concerning these things, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.

Als Paulus dann aber Berufung einlegte und bis zur Entscheidung des Kaisers in Haft zu bleiben verlangte, habe ich befohlen, man solle ihn weiter in Gewahrsam halten, bis ich ihn zum Kaiser senden würde.«

Mas apelando Pablo á ser guardado al conocimiento de Augusto, mandé que le guardasen hasta que le enviara á César.

But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Cæsar.

But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept until I could send him to Caesar.”

Da sagte Agrippa zu Festus: »Ich möchte den Mann gern persönlich (einmal) hören«, worauf jener erwiderte: »Gleich morgen sollst du ihn hören!«

Entonces Agripa dijo á Festo: Yo también quisiera oir á ese hombre. Y él dijo: Mañana le oirás.

Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.

Agrippa said to Festus, “I also would like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him.”

Als nun am folgenden Tage Agrippa und Bernice mit großem Gepränge erschienen und mit den Heeresobersten und den vornehmsten Männern der Stadt in den Vortragssaal eingetreten waren, wurde Paulus auf Befehl des Festus vorgeführt.

Y al otro día, viniendo Agripa y Bernice con mucho aparato, y entrando en la audiencia con los tribunos y principales hombres de la ciudad, por mandato de Festo, fué traído Pablo.

And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus’ commandment Paul was brought forth.

So on the next day, when Agrippa and Bernice had come with great pomp, and they had entered into the place of hearing with the commanding officers and the principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.

Darauf sagte Festus: »König Agrippa und ihr anderen mit uns hier anwesenden Herrn alle! Ihr seht hier den Mann, wegen dessen die gesamte Judenschaft mich in Jerusalem wie auch hier mit dem lauten Ruf bestürmt hat, er dürfe nicht länger am Leben bleiben.

Entonces Festo dijo: Rey Agripa, y todos los varones que estáis aquí juntos con nosotros: veis á éste, por el cual toda la multitud de los Judíos me ha demandado en Jerusalem y aquí, dando voces que no conviene que viva más;

And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.

Festus said, “King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, you see this man about whom all the multitude of the Jews petitioned me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.

Ich bin mir jedoch klar darüber geworden, daß er kein todeswürdiges Verbrechen begangen hat. Weil er selbst aber Berufung an den Kaiser eingelegt hat, habe ich mich für seine Hinsendung entschieden.

Mas yo, hallando que ninguna cosa digna de muerte ha hecho, y él mismo apelando á Augusto, he determinado enviarle:

But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.

But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and as he himself appealed to the emperor, I determined to send him,

Nun weiß ich aber meinem kaiserlichen Herrn nichts Zuverlässiges über ihn zu berichten; darum habe ich ihn euch und vornehmlich dir, König Agrippa, hier vorführen lassen, damit ich nach erfolgtem Verhör eine Unterlage für meinen schriftlichen Bericht erhalte.

Del cual no tengo cosa cierta que escriba al señor; por lo que le he sacado á vosotros, y mayormente á tí, oh rey Agripa, para que hecha información, tenga yo qué escribir.

Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.

Denn es scheint mir widersinnig zu sein, einen Gefangenen hinzusenden, ohne zugleich die gegen ihn erhobenen Beschuldigungen anzugeben.«

Porque fuera de razón me parece enviar un preso, y no informar de las causas.

For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid against him.

For it seems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not to also specify the charges against him.”
