Als es aber beschlossen war, daß wir nach Italien absegeln sollten, überlieferten sie den Paulus und etliche andere Gefangene einem Hauptmann, mit Namen Julius, von der Schar des Augustus.

MAS como fué determinado que habíamos de navegar para Italia, entregaron á Pablo y á algunos otros presos á un centurión, llamado Julio, de la compañía Augusta.

And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus’ band.

Als wir aber in ein adramyttisches Schiff gestiegen waren, das im Begriff stand, die Orte längs der Küste Asiens zu befahren, fuhren wir ab; und es war bei uns Aristarchus, ein Macedonier aus Thessalonich.

Así que, embarcándonos en una nave Adrumentina, partimos, estando con nosotros Aristarco, Macedonio de Tesalónica, para navegar junto á los lugares de Asia.

And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

Embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail to places on the coast of Asia, we put to sea, Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica being with us.

Und des anderen Tages legten wir zu Sidon an. Und Julius behandelte den Paulus sehr wohlwollend und erlaubte ihm, zu den Freunden zu gehen, um ihrer Fürsorge teilhaftig zu werden.

Y otro día llegamos á Sidón; y Julio, tratando á Pablo con humanidad, permitióle que fuese á los amigos, para ser de ellos asistido.

And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

Und von da fuhren wir ab und segelten unter Cypern hin, weil die Winde uns entgegen waren.

Y haciéndonos á la vela desde allí, navegamos bajo de Cipro, porque los vientos eran contrarios.

And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

und als der Hauptmann daselbst ein alexandrinisches Schiff fand, das nach Italien segelte, brachte er uns auf dasselbe.

And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein.

Als wir aber viele Tage langsam segelten und mit Mühe gen Knidus gekommen waren, segelten wir, da uns der Wind nicht heranließ, unter Kreta hin, gegen Salmone;

Y navegando muchos días despacio, y habiendo apenas llegado delante de Gnido, no dejándonos el viento, navegamos bajo de Creta, junto á Salmón.

And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;

und als wir mit Mühe an ihr dahinfuhren, kamen wir an einen gewissen Ort, Schönhafen genannt, in dessen Nähe die Stadt Lasea war.

Y costeándola difícilmente, llegamos á un lugar que llaman Buenos Puertos, cerca del cual estaba la ciudad de Lasea.

And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

With difficulty sailing along it we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea.

Da aber viel Zeit verflossen und die Fahrt schon unsicher war, weil auch die Fasten schon vorüber waren, ermahnte Paulus und sprach zu ihnen:

Y pasado mucho tiempo, y siendo ya peligrosa la navegación, porque ya era pasado el ayuno, Pablo amonestaba,

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

When much time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous because the Fast had now already gone by, Paul admonished them

Männer, ich sehe, daß die Fahrt mit Ungemach und großem Schaden, nicht nur der Ladung und des Schiffes, sondern auch unseres Lebens geschehen wird.

Diciéndoles: Varones, veo que con trabajo y mucho daño, no sólo de la cargazón y de la nave, mas aun de nuestras personas, habrá de ser la navegación.

And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

and said to them, “Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.”

Der Hauptmann aber glaubte dem Steuermann und dem Schiffsherrn mehr als dem von Paulus Gesagten.

Mas el centurión creía más al piloto y al patrón de la nave, que á lo que Pablo decía.

Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship than to those things which were spoken by Paul.

Da aber der Hafen zum Überwintern ungeeignet war, rieten die meisten dazu, von dort abzufahren, ob sie etwa nach Phönix zu gelangen und dort zu überwintern vermöchten, einem Hafen von Kreta, der gegen Nordost und gegen Südost sieht.

Y no habiendo puerto cómodo para invernar, muchos acordaron pasar aún de allí, por si pudiesen arribar á Fenice é invernar allí, que es un puerto de Creta que mira al Nordeste y Sudeste.

And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

Because the haven was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised going to sea from there, if by any means they could reach Phoenix and winter there, which is a port of Crete, looking southwest and northwest.

Als aber ein Südwind sanft wehte, meinten sie ihren Vorsatz erreicht zu haben, lichteten die Anker und fuhren dicht an Kreta hin.

Y soplando el austro, pareciéndoles que ya tenían lo que deseaban, alzando velas, iban cerca de la costa de Creta.

And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.

Aber nicht lange danach erhob sich von Kreta her ein Sturmwind, Euroklydon genannt.

Mas no mucho después dió en ella un viento repentino, que se llama Euroclidón.

But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

But before long, a stormy wind beat down from shore, which is called Euroclydon.

Als aber das Schiff mitfortgerissen wurde und dem Winde nicht zu widerstehen vermochte, gaben wir uns preis und trieben dahin.

Y siendo arrebatada la nave, y no pudiendo resistir contra el viento, la dejamos, y éramos llevados.

And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

When the ship was caught and couldn’t face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along.

Als wir aber unter einer gewissen kleinen Insel, Klauda genannt, hinliefen, vermochten wir kaum des Bootes mächtig zu werden.

Y habiendo corrido á sotavento de una pequeña isla que se llama Clauda, apenas pudimos ganar el esquife:

And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:

Running under the lee of a small island called Clauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat.

Dieses zogen sie herauf und bedienten sich der Schutzmittel, indem sie das Schiff umgürteten; und da sie fürchteten, in die Syrte verschlagen zu werden, ließen sie das Takelwerk nieder und trieben also dahin.

El cual tomado, usaban de remedios, ciñendo la nave; y teniendo temor de que diesen en la Sirte, abajadas las velas, eran así llevados.

Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis sand bars, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along.

Indem wir aber sehr vom Sturme litten, machten sie des folgenden Tages einen Auswurf;

Mas siendo atormentados de una vehemente tempestad, al siguiente día alijaron;

And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;

As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard.

und am dritten Tage warfen sie mit eigenen Händen das Schiffsgerät fort.

Y al tercer día nosotros con nuestras manos arrojamos los aparejos de la nave.

And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

On the third day, they threw out the ship’s tackle with their own hands.

Da aber viele Tage lang weder Sonne noch Sterne schienen und ein nicht geringes Unwetter auf uns lag, war zuletzt alle Hoffnung auf unsere Rettung entschwunden.

Y no pareciendo sol ni estrellas por muchos días, y viniendo una tempestad no pequeña, ya era perdida toda la esperanza de nuestra salud.

And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.

Und als man lange Zeit ohne Speise geblieben war, da stand Paulus in ihrer Mitte auf und sprach: O Männer! Man hätte mir freilich gehorchen und nicht von Kreta abfahren und dieses Ungemach und den Schaden nicht ernten sollen.

Entonces Pablo, habiendo ya mucho que no comíamos, puesto en pie en medio de ellos, dijo: Fuera de cierto conveniente, oh varones, haberme oído, y no partir de Creta, y evitar este inconveniente y daño.

But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

When they had been long without food, Paul stood up in the middle of them and said, “Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete and have gotten this injury and loss.

Und jetzt ermahne ich euch, gutes Mutes zu sein, denn kein Leben von euch wird verloren gehen, nur das Schiff.

Mas ahora os amonesto que tengáis buen ánimo; porque ninguna pérdida habrá de persona de vosotros, sino solamente de la nave.

And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.

Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.

Denn ein Engel des Gottes, dessen ich bin und dem ich diene, stand in dieser Nacht bei mir und sprach:

Porque esta noche ha estado conmigo el ángel del Dios del cual yo soy, y al cual sirvo,

For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

For there stood by me this night an angel, belonging to the God whose I am and whom I serve,

Fürchte dich nicht, Paulus! Du mußt vor den Kaiser gestellt werden; und siehe, Gott hat dir alle geschenkt, die mit dir fahren.

Diciendo: Pablo, no temas; es menester que seas presentado delante de César; y he aquí, Dios te ha dado todos los que navegan contigo.

Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

saying, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. Behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’

Deshalb seid gutes Mutes, ihr Männer! Denn ich vertraue Gott, daß es so sein wird, wie zu mir geredet worden ist.

Por tanto, oh varones, tened buen ánimo; porque yo confío en Dios que será así como me ha dicho;

Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

Therefore, sirs, cheer up! For I believe God, that it will be just as it has been spoken to me.

Wir müssen aber auf eine gewisse Insel verschlagen werden.

Si bien es menester que demos en una isla.

Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

But we must run aground on a certain island.”

Als aber die vierzehnte Nacht gekommen war, und wir in dem Adriatischen Meere umhertrieben, meinten gegen Mitternacht die Matrosen, daß sich ihnen ein Land nahe.

Y venida la décimacuarta noche, y siendo llevados por el mar Adriático, los marineros á la media noche sospecharon que estaban cerca de alguna tierra;

But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;

But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven back and forth in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some land.

Und als sie das Senkblei ausgeworfen hatten, fanden sie zwanzig Faden; nachdem sie aber ein wenig weiter gefahren waren und das Senkblei wiederum ausgeworfen hatten, fanden sie fünfzehn Faden.

Y echando la sonda, hallaron veinte brazas; y pasando un poco más adelante, volviendo á echar la sonda, hallaron quince brazas.

And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.

They took soundings and found twenty fathoms. After a little while, they took soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms.

Und indem sie fürchteten, wir möchten etwa auf felsige Orte verschlagen werden, warfen sie vom Hinterteil vier Anker aus und wünschten, daß es Tag würde.

Y habiendo temor de dar en lugares escabrosos, echando cuatro anclas de la popa, deseaban que se hiciese de día.

Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

Fearing that we would run aground on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for daylight.

Als aber die Matrosen aus dem Schiffe zu fliehen suchten und das Boot unter dem Vorwande, als wollten sie vom Vorderteil Anker auswerfen, in das Meer hinabließen,

Entonces procurando los marineros huir de la nave, echado que hubieron el esquife á la mar, aparentando como que querían largar las anclas de proa,

And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

As the sailors were trying to flee out of the ship and had lowered the boat into the sea, pretending that they would lay out anchors from the bow,

sprach Paulus zu dem Hauptmann und den Kriegsleuten: Wenn diese nicht im Schiffe bleiben, könnt ihr nicht gerettet werden.

Pablo dijo al centurión y á los soldados: Si éstos no quedan en la nave, vosotros no podéis salvaros.

Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, “Unless these stay in the ship, you can’t be saved.”

Dann hieben die Kriegsleute die Taue des Bootes ab und ließen es hinabfallen.

Entonces los soldados cortaron los cabos del esquife, y dejáronlo perder.

Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.

Als es aber Tag werden wollte, ermahnte Paulus alle, Speise zu nehmen, und sprach: Heute ist der vierzehnte Tag, daß ihr zuwartend ohne Essen geblieben seid, indem ihr nichts zu euch genommen habt.

Y como comenzó á ser de día, Pablo exhortaba á todos que comiesen, diciendo: Este es el décimocuarto día que esperáis y permanecéis ayunos, no comiendo nada.

And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

While the day was coming on, Paul begged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing.

Deshalb ermahne ich euch, Speise zu nehmen, denn dies gehört zu eurer Erhaltung; denn keinem von euch wird ein Haar des Hauptes verloren gehen.

Por tanto, os ruego que comáis por vuestra salud: que ni aun un cabello de la cabeza de ninguno de vosotros perecerá.

Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

Therefore I beg you to take some food, for this is for your safety; for not a hair will perish from any of your heads.”

Und als er dies gesagt und Brot genommen hatte, dankte er Gott vor allen, und als er es gebrochen hatte, begann er zu essen.

Y habiendo dicho esto, tomando el pan, hizo gracias á Dios en presencia de todos, y partiendo, comenzó á comer.

And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

When he had said this and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all; then he broke it and began to eat.

Alle aber, gutes Mutes geworden, nahmen auch selbst Speise zu sich.

Entonces todos teniendo ya mejor ánimo, comieron ellos también.

Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

Then they all cheered up, and they also took food.

Wir waren aber in dem Schiffe, alle Seelen, zweihundertsechsundsiebzig.

Y éramos todas las personas en la nave doscientas setenta y seis.

And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.

In all, we were two hundred seventy-six souls on the ship.

Als sie sich aber mit Speise gesättigt hatten, erleichterten sie das Schiff, indem sie den Weizen in das Meer warfen.

Y satisfechos de comida, aliviaban la nave, echando el grano á la mar.

And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, and cast out the wheat into the sea.

Als es aber Tag wurde, erkannten sie das Land nicht; sie bemerkten aber einen gewissen Meerbusen, der einen Strand hatte, auf welchen sie, wenn möglich, das Schiff zu treiben gedachten.

Y como se hizo de día, no conocían la tierra: mas veían un golfo que tenía orilla, al cual acordaron echar, si pudiesen, la nave.

And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

When it was day, they didn’t recognize the land, but they noticed a certain bay with a beach, and they decided to try to drive the ship onto it.

Und als sie die Anker gekappt hatten, ließen sie sie im Meere und machten zugleich die Bande der Steuerruder los und hißten das Vordersegel vor den Wind und hielten auf den Strand zu.

Cortando pues las anclas, las dejaron en la mar, largando también las ataduras de los gobernalles; y alzada la vela mayor al viento, íbanse á la orilla.

And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

Casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time untying the rudder ropes. Hoisting up the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach.

Da sie aber auf eine Landzunge gerieten, ließen sie das Schiff stranden; und das Vorderteil saß fest und blieb unbeweglich, das Hinterteil aber wurde von der Gewalt der Wellen zerschellt.

Mas dando en un lugar de dos aguas, hicieron encallar la nave; y la proa, hincada, estaba sin moverse, y la popa se abría con la fuerza de la mar.

And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

But coming to a place where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground. The bow struck and remained immovable, but the stern began to break up by the violence of the waves.

Der Kriegsknechte Rat aber war, daß sie die Gefangenen töten sollten, damit nicht jemand fortschwimmen und entfliehen möchte.

Der Hauptmann aber, der den Paulus retten wollte, hinderte sie an ihrem Vorhaben und befahl, daß diejenigen, welche schwimmen könnten, sich zuerst hinabwerfen und an das Land gehen sollten;

Mas el centurión, queriendo salvar á Pablo, estorbó este acuerdo, y mandó que los que pudiesen nadar, se echasen los primeros, y saliesen á tierra;

But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stopped them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should throw themselves overboard first to go toward the land;

und die übrigen teils auf Brettern, teils auf Stücken vom Schiffe. Und also geschah es, daß alle an das Land gerettet wurden.

Y los demás, parte en tablas, parte en cosas de la nave. Y así aconteció que todos se salvaron saliendo á tierra.

And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

and the rest should follow, some on planks and some on other things from the ship. So they all escaped safely to the land.
