Als nun unsere Abfahrt nach Italien beschlossen war, übergab man den Paulus und einige andere Gefangene einem Hauptmann der Kaiserlichen Abteilung namens Julius.

MAS como fué determinado que habíamos de navegar para Italia, entregaron á Pablo y á algunos otros presos á un centurión, llamado Julio, de la compañía Augusta.

And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus’ band.

Wir bestiegen dann ein Schiff aus Adramyttium, das die Küstenplätze der römischen Provinz Asien anlaufen sollte, und fuhren ab; in unserer Begleitung befand sich auch noch Aristarchus, ein Mazedonier aus Thessalonike.

Así que, embarcándonos en una nave Adrumentina, partimos, estando con nosotros Aristarco, Macedonio de Tesalónica, para navegar junto á los lugares de Asia.

And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

Am folgenden Tage landeten wir in Sidon; und weil Julius den Paulus menschenfreundlich behandelte, erlaubte er ihm, seine (dortigen) Freunde zu besuchen und sich von ihnen mit dem nötigen Reisebedarf versorgen zu lassen.

And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.

And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;

Nur mit Mühe erreichten wir bei dieser Küstenfahrt einen Ort namens Schönhafen, in dessen Nähe die Stadt Lasäa lag.

And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.

Da inzwischen geraume Zeit verflossen war und die Schiffahrt bereits gefährlich zu werden begann – sogar der große (jüdische Versöhnungs-) Fasttag war schon vorüber –, sagte Paulus warnend zu ihnen:

Y pasado mucho tiempo, y siendo ya peligrosa la navegación, porque ya era pasado el ayuno, Pablo amonestaba,

Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

»Ihr Männer, ich sehe voraus, daß ein Weiterfahren mit Gefahr und großem Schaden nicht nur für die Ladung und das Schiff, sondern auch für unser Leben verbunden sein wird.«

Diciéndoles: Varones, veo que con trabajo y mucho daño, no sólo de la cargazón y de la nave, mas aun de nuestras personas, habrá de ser la navegación.

And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

and said to them, “Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.”

Aber der Hauptmann schenkte dem Steuermann und dem Schiffsherrn mehr Glauben als den Worten des Paulus;

Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

und weil der Hafen zum Überwintern ungeeignet war, faßte die Mehrzahl den Beschluß, von dort weiterzufahren und womöglich zum Überwintern nach Phönix zu gelangen, einem kretischen Hafen, der gegen den Südwest- und Nordwestwind geschützt liegt.

Y no habiendo puerto cómodo para invernar, muchos acordaron pasar aún de allí, por si pudiesen arribar á Fenice é invernar allí, que es un puerto de Creta que mira al Nordeste y Sudeste.

And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

Because the haven was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised going to sea from there, if by any means they could reach Phoenix and winter there, which is a port of Crete, looking southwest and northwest.

Als nun ein schwacher Südwind einsetzte, glaubten sie, ihr Vorhaben sicher ausführen zu können; sie lichteten daher die Anker und fuhren ganz nahe an der Küste von Kreta hin.

And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.

Da nun das Schiff von diesem fortgerissen wurde und dem Wind gegenüber machtlos war, mußten wir uns auf gut Glück treiben lassen.

Y siendo arrebatada la nave, y no pudiendo resistir contra el viento, la dejamos, y éramos llevados.

And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

When the ship was caught and couldn’t face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along.

Als wir dann unter dem Schutz eines Inselchens namens Klauda hinfuhren, gelang es uns nur mit großer Mühe, uns im Besitz des Rettungsbootes zu erhalten:

And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:

man zog es an Bord herauf und brachte Schutzmittel in Anwendung, indem man das Schiff (mit Tauen) gürtete; und weil man auf die (Sandbänke der) Syrte zu geraten befürchtete, holte man die Segel herunter und ließ sich so treiben.

El cual tomado, usaban de remedios, ciñendo la nave; y teniendo temor de que diesen en la Sirte, abajadas las velas, eran así llevados.

Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis sand bars, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along.

Weil wir aber vom Sturm schwer zu leiden hatten, warf man am folgenden Tage einen Teil der Ladung über Bord

Mas siendo atormentados de una vehemente tempestad, al siguiente día alijaron;

And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;

As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard.

und ließ am dritten Tage das Schiffsgerät notgedrungen nachfolgen.

Y al tercer día nosotros con nuestras manos arrojamos los aparejos de la nave.

And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

Als dann aber mehrere Tage hindurch weder die Sonne noch Sterne sichtbar waren und der Sturm ungeschwächt weitertobte, schwand uns schließlich alle Hoffnung auf Rettung.

Y no pareciendo sol ni estrellas por muchos días, y viniendo una tempestad no pequeña, ya era perdida toda la esperanza de nuestra salud.

And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.

Weil nun niemand mehr Nahrung zu sich nehmen mochte, trat Paulus mitten unter sie und sagte: »Ihr Männer! Man hätte allerdings auf mich hören und nicht von Kreta abfahren sollen: dann wäre uns dieses Ungemach und dieser Schaden erspart geblieben.

Entonces Pablo, habiendo ya mucho que no comíamos, puesto en pie en medio de ellos, dijo: Fuera de cierto conveniente, oh varones, haberme oído, y no partir de Creta, y evitar este inconveniente y daño.

But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.

When they had been long without food, Paul stood up in the middle of them and said, “Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete and have gotten this injury and loss.

Doch, wie die Dinge jetzt einmal liegen, fordere ich euch auf, getrosten Mutes zu sein; denn keiner von euch wird das Leben verlieren; nur das Schiff ist verloren.

Mas ahora os amonesto que tengáis buen ánimo; porque ninguna pérdida habrá de persona de vosotros, sino solamente de la nave.

And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.

Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.

Denn in dieser Nacht ist mir ein Engel des Gottes erschienen, dem ich angehöre und dem ich auch diene,

For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

und hat zu mir gesagt: ›Fürchte dich nicht, Paulus! Du mußt vor den Kaiser treten, und wisse wohl: Gott hat dir das Leben aller deiner Reisegefährten geschenkt!‹

Diciendo: Pablo, no temas; es menester que seas presentado delante de César; y he aquí, Dios te ha dado todos los que navegan contigo.

Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

saying, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. Behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’

Darum seid guten Mutes, ihr Männer! Denn ich habe die feste Zuversicht zu Gott, daß es so kommen wird, wie mir angekündigt worden ist.

Por tanto, oh varones, tened buen ánimo; porque yo confío en Dios que será así como me ha dicho;

Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

Therefore, sirs, cheer up! For I believe God, that it will be just as it has been spoken to me.

Wir müssen aber an irgendeiner Insel stranden.«

Si bien es menester que demos en una isla.

Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.

But we must run aground on a certain island.”

Als dann die vierzehnte Nacht gekommen war, seit wir im Adriatischen Meer umhertrieben, vermuteten die Schiffsleute um Mitternacht die Annäherung von Land.

Y venida la décimacuarta noche, y siendo llevados por el mar Adriático, los marineros á la media noche sospecharon que estaban cerca de alguna tierra;

But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;

But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven back and forth in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some land.

Als sie nämlich das Senkblei auswarfen, stellten sie zwanzig Klafter Tiefe fest; und als sie in kurzer Entfernung wieder loteten, fanden sie nur fünfzehn Klafter.

Y echando la sonda, hallaron veinte brazas; y pasando un poco más adelante, volviendo á echar la sonda, hallaron quince brazas.

And sounded, and found it twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it fifteen fathoms.

Weil sie nun fürchteten, wir könnten irgendwo auf Klippen geraten, warfen sie vier Anker hinten vom Schiff aus und erwarteten mit Sehnsucht den Anbruch des Tages.

Y habiendo temor de dar en lugares escabrosos, echando cuatro anclas de la popa, deseaban que se hiciese de día.

Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.

Fearing that we would run aground on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for daylight.

Als nun aber die Schiffsleute aus dem Schiff zu entfliehen suchten und (zu diesem Zweck) das Rettungsboot ins Meer niederließen unter dem Vorgeben, sie wollten auch vorn aus dem Schiff Anker auswerfen,

Entonces procurando los marineros huir de la nave, echado que hubieron el esquife á la mar, aparentando como que querían largar las anclas de proa,

And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship,

As the sailors were trying to flee out of the ship and had lowered the boat into the sea, pretending that they would lay out anchors from the bow,

erklärte Paulus dem Hauptmann und den Soldaten: »Wenn diese Leute nicht im Schiff bleiben, könnt ihr unmöglich gerettet werden!«

Pablo dijo al centurión y á los soldados: Si éstos no quedan en la nave, vosotros no podéis salvaros.

Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

Daraufhin hieben die Soldaten die Taue des Bootes ab und ließen es in die See treiben.

Bis es aber Tag werden wollte, redete Paulus allen zu, sie möchten Nahrung zu sich nehmen; er sagte nämlich: »Heute ist es der vierzehnte Tag, daß ihr ohne Nahrung ununterbrochen in ängstlicher Erwartung schwebt und nichts Rechtes zu euch genommen habt.

Y como comenzó á ser de día, Pablo exhortaba á todos que comiesen, diciendo: Este es el décimocuarto día que esperáis y permanecéis ayunos, no comiendo nada.

And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.

While the day was coming on, Paul begged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing.

Darum rate ich euch: nehmt Nahrung zu euch! Das ist zu eurer Rettung notwendig; denn keinem von euch wird ein Haar vom Haupt verlorengehen!«

Por tanto, os ruego que comáis por vuestra salud: que ni aun un cabello de la cabeza de ninguno de vosotros perecerá.

Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.

Therefore I beg you to take some food, for this is for your safety; for not a hair will perish from any of your heads.”

Nach diesen Worten nahm er Brot, sagte Gott vor aller Augen Dank, brach ein Stück ab und begann zu essen.

Y habiendo dicho esto, tomando el pan, hizo gracias á Dios en presencia de todos, y partiendo, comenzó á comer.

And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

Da bekamen alle neuen Mut und nahmen ebenfalls Nahrung zu sich.

Entonces todos teniendo ya mejor ánimo, comieron ellos también.

Wir waren aber unser im ganzen zweihundertsechsundsiebzig Seelen auf dem Schiff.

And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.

Nachdem sie sich nun satt gegessen hatten, erleichterten sie das Schiff dadurch, daß sie die Getreideladung ins Meer warfen.

And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

So kappten sie denn die Ankertaue und ließen sie ins Meer fallen; zugleich machten sie die Riemen an den (beiden) Steuerrudern los, stellten das Vordersegel vor den Wind und hielten auf den Strand zu.

Cortando pues las anclas, las dejaron en la mar, largando también las ataduras de los gobernalles; y alzada la vela mayor al viento, íbanse á la orilla.

And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

Casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time untying the rudder ropes. Hoisting up the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach.

Dabei gerieten sie aber auf eine Sandbank, auf die sie das Schiff auflaufen ließen: das Vorderteil bohrte sich tief ein und saß unbeweglich fest, während das Hinterschiff infolge der Gewalt der Wogen allmählich auseinanderging.

Mas dando en un lugar de dos aguas, hicieron encallar la nave; y la proa, hincada, estaba sin moverse, y la popa se abría con la fuerza de la mar.

And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

But coming to a place where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground. The bow struck and remained immovable, but the stern began to break up by the violence of the waves.

Die Soldaten faßten nun den Plan, die Gefangenen zu töten, damit keiner von ihnen durch Schwimmen entkäme;

Mas el centurión, queriendo salvar á Pablo, estorbó este acuerdo, y mandó que los que pudiesen nadar, se echasen los primeros, y saliesen á tierra;

But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

die übrigen (mußten) dann teils auf Brettern, teils auf irgendwelchen Gegenständen aus dem Schiff (das Ufer gewinnen). Auf diese Weise gelang es allen, wohlbehalten ans Land zu kommen.

Y los demás, parte en tablas, parte en cosas de la nave. Y así aconteció que todos se salvaron saliendo á tierra.

And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

and the rest should follow, some on planks and some on other things from the ship. So they all escaped safely to the land.
