1E tendo sobrevivido, então souberam que a ilha se chamava Malta.
2E os nativos demonstraram para conosco uma benevolência incomum; porque, tendo acendido uma fogueira, recolheram a nós todos, por causa da chuva que estava caindo, e por causa do frio.
3E tendo Paulo recolhido uma quantidade de gravetos, e pondo-os no fogo, saiu uma víbora do calor, e fixou os dentes na mão dele.
4E quando os nativos vieram o animal pendurado na mão dele, disseram uns aos outros: Certamente este homem é assassino, ao qual, tendo sobrevivido do mar, a justiça não o deixa viver.
5Porém, ele, tendo sacudido o animal ao fogo, sofreu nenhum mal.
6E eles esperavam que ele fosse inchar, ou cair morto de repente. Mas tendo esperado muito, e vendo que nenhum incômodo tinha lhe sobrevindo, mudaram de opinião , e diziam que ele era um deus.
7E perto daquele mesmo lugar o homem mais importante da ilha, por nome Públio, tinha algumas propriedades; o qual nos recebeu e nos hospedou por três dias gentilmente.
8E aconteceu que o pai de Públio estava de cama, doente de febres e disenteria; ao qual Paulo entrou, e tendo orado, pôs as mãos sobre ele, e o curou.
9Tendo então isto acontecido, também vieram a ele outros que tinham enfermidades, e foram curados;
10Os quais nos honraram com muitas honras; e estando nós para navegar, nos entregaram as coisas necessárias.
11E três meses depois, nós partimos em um navio de Alexandria, que tinha passado o inverno na ilha; o qual tinha como símbolo os gêmeos Castor e Pólux.
12E chegando a Siracusa, ficamos ali três dias.
13De onde, tendo indo ao redor da costa, chegamos a Régio; e um dia depois, ventando ao sul, viemos o segundo dia a Putéoli.
14Onde, tendo achado alguns irmãos, eles nos rogaram que ficássemos com eles por sete dias; e assim viemos a Roma.
15E os irmãos, ao ouvirem notícias sobre nós, desde lá nos saíram ao encontro até a praça de Ápio, e as três tavernas; e Paulo, tendo os visto, agradeceu a Deus, e tomou coragem.
16E quando chegamos a Roma, o centurião entregou os prisioneiros ao chefe da guarda, mas a Paulo foi permitido morar por si mesmo à parte, junto com o soldado que o guardava.
17E aconteceu que, três dias depois, Paulo chamou juntos os chefes dos judeus; e ao se reunirem, disse-lhes: Homens irmãos, tendo eu nada feito contra o povo, ou contra os costumes dos pais, mesmo assim eu vim preso desde Jerusalém, entregue em mãos dos romanos.
18Os quais, tendo me investigado, queriam me soltar, por não haver em mim nenhum crime de morte.
19Mas os judeus, dizendo em contrário, eu fui forçado a apelar a César; mas não como que eu tenha que acusar a minha nação.
20Então por esta causa eu vos chamei até mim, para vos ver e falar; porque pela esperança de Israel eu estou agora preso nesta corrente.
21Mas eles lhe disseram: Nós nem recebemos cartas da Judeia relacionadas a ti, nem algum dos irmãos, tendo vindo aqui, tem nos informado ou falado de ti algum mal.
22Mas nós queríamos ouvir de ti o que tu pensas; porque, quanto a esta seita, conhecemos que em todo lugar há quem fale contra ela.
23E tendo eles lhe determinado um dia, muitos vieram até onde ele estava morando; aos quais ele declarava e dava testemunho do Reino de Deus; e procurava persuadi-los quanto a Jesus, tanto pela Lei de Moisés, como pelos profetas, desde a manhã até a tarde.
24E alguns criam nas coisas que ele dizia; mas outros não criam.
25E estando discordantes entre si, despediram-se, tendo Paulo disto esta palavra: O Espírito Santo corretamente falou a nossos pais por meio de Isaías o profeta,
26Dizendo: Vai a este povo, e dize: De fato ouvireis, mas de maneira nenhuma entendereis; e de fato vereis, mas de maneira nenhuma enxergareis.
27Porque o coração deste povo está insensível, seus ouvidos ouvem com dificuldade, e seus olhos estão fechados; para que em maneira nenhuma vejam com os olhos, nem ouçam com os ouvidos, nem entendam com o coração, e se convertam, e eu os cure.
28Portanto seja conhecido por vós que a salvação de Deus foi enviada aos gentios; e eles a ouvirão.
29E havendo ele dito isto, os judeus foram embora, havendo entre eles grande discussão.
30E Paulo ficou dois anos inteiros em sua própria casa alugada; e recebia a todos quantos vinham a ele;
31Pregando o Reino de Deus, e ensinando com ousadia a doutrina do Senhor Jesus Cristo, sem impedimento algum.

1Y CUANDO escapamos, entonces supimos que la isla se llamaba Melita.
2Y los bárbaros nos mostraron no poca humanidad; porque, encendido un fuego, nos recibieron á todos, á causa de la lluvia que venía, y del frío.
3Entonces habiendo Pablo recogido algunos sarmientos, y puéstolos en el fuego, una víbora, huyendo del calor, le acometió á la mano.
4Y como los bárbaros vieron la víbora colgando de su mano, decían los unos á los otros: Ciertamente este hombre es homicida, á quien, escapado de la mar, la justicia no deja vivir.
5Mas él, sacudiendo la víbora en el fuego, ningún mal padeció.
6Empero ellos estaban esperando cuándo se había de hinchar, ó caer muerto de repente; mas habiendo esperado mucho, y viendo que ningún mal le venía, mudados, decían que era un dios.
7En aquellos lugares había heredades del principal de la isla, llamado Publio, el cual nos recibió y hospedó tres días humanamente.
8Y aconteció que el padre de Publio estaba en cama, enfermo de fiebres y de disentería: al cual Pablo entró, y después de haber orado, le puso las manos encima, y le sanó:
9Y esto hecho, también los otros que en la isla tenían enfermedades, llegaban, y eran sanados:
10Los cuales también nos honraron con muchos obsequios; y cuando partimos, nos cargaron de las cosas necesarias.
11Así que, pasados tres meses, navegamos en una nave Alejandrina que había invernado en la isla, la cual tenía por enseña á Cástor y Pólux.
12Y llegados á Siracusa, estuvimos allí tres días.
13De allí, costeando alrededor, vinimos á Regio; y otro día después, soplando el austro, vinimos al segundo día á Puteolos:
14Donde habiendo hallado hermanos, nos rogaron que quedásemos con ellos siete días; y luego vinimos á Roma;
15De donde, oyendo de nosotros los hermanos, nos salieron á recibir hasta la plaza de Appio, y Las Tres Tabernas: á los cuales como Pablo vió, dió gracias á Dios, y tomó aliento.
16Y como llegamos á Roma, el centurión entregó los presos al prefecto de los ejércitos, mas á Pablo fué permitido estar por sí, con un soldado que le guardase.
17Y aconteció que tres días después, Pablo convocó á los principales de los Judíos; á los cuales, luego que estuvieron juntos, les dijo: Yo, varones hermanos, no habiendo hecho nada contra el pueblo, ni contra los ritos de la patria, he sido entregado preso desde Jerusalem en manos de los Romanos;
18Los cuales, habiéndome examinado, me querían soltar, por no haber en mí ninguna causa de muerte.
19Mas contradiciendo los Judíos, fuí forzado á apelar á César; no que tenga de qué acusar á mi nación.
20Así que, por esta causa, os he llamado para veros y hablaros; porque por la esperanza de Israel estoy rodeado de esta cadena.
21Entonces ellos le dijeron: Nosotros ni hemos recibido cartas tocante á ti de Judea, ni ha venido alguno de los hermanos que haya denunciado ó hablado algún mal de ti.
22Mas querríamos oir de ti lo que sientes; porque de esta secta notorio nos es que en todos lugares es contradicha.
23Y habiéndole señalado un día, vinieron á él muchos á la posada, á los cuales declaraba y testificaba el reino de Dios, persuadiéndoles lo concerniente á Jesús, por la ley de Moisés y por los profetas, desde la mañana hasta la tarde.
24Y algunos asentían á lo que se decía, mas algunos no creían.
25Y como fueron entre sí discordes, se fueron, diciendo Pablo esta palabra: Bien ha hablado el Espíritu Santo por el profeta Isaías á nuestros padres,
26Diciendo: Ve á este pueblo, y diles: De oído oiréis, y no entenderéis; y viendo veréis, y no percibiréis:
27Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha engrosado, y de los oídos oyeron pesadamente, y sus ojos taparon; porque no vean con los ojos, y oigan con los oídos, y entiendan de corazón, y se conviertan, y yo los sane.
28Séaos pues notorio que á los Gentiles es enviada esta salud de Dios: y ellos oirán.
29Y habiendo dicho esto, los Judíos salieron, teniendo entre sí gran contienda.
30Pablo empero, quedó dos años enteros en su casa de alquiler, y recibía á todos los que á él venían,
31Predicando el reino de Dios y enseñando lo que es del Señor Jesucristo con toda libertad, sin impedimento.

1And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
2And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
5And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.
6Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
7In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.
8And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.
9So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:
10Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.
11And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.
12And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.
13And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:
14Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.
15And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.
16And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
17And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
18Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
19But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Cæsar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.
20For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.
21And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judæa concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
22But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
23And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
24And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
25And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
26Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
27For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
28Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
29And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
30And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
31Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

1When we had escaped, then they learned that the island was called Malta.
2The natives showed us uncommon kindness; for they kindled a fire and received us all, because of the present rain and because of the cold.
3But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened on his hand.
4When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live.”
5However he shook off the creature into the fire, and wasn’t harmed.
6But they expected that he would have swollen or fallen down dead suddenly, but when they watched for a long time and saw nothing bad happen to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.
7Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us and courteously entertained us for three days.
8The father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him.
9Then when this was done, the rest also who had diseases in the island came and were cured.
10They also honored us with many honors; and when we sailed, they put on board the things that we needed.
11After three months, we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose figurehead was “The Twin Brothers.”
12Touching at Syracuse, we stayed there three days.
13From there we circled around and arrived at Rhegium. After one day, a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli,
14where we found brothers, and were entreated to stay with them for seven days. So we came to Rome.
15From there the brothers, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.
16When we entered into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, but Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who guarded him.
17After three days Paul called together those who were the leaders of the Jews. When they had come together, he said to them, “I, brothers, though I had done nothing against the people or the customs of our fathers, still was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,
18who, when they had examined me, desired to set me free, because there was no cause of death in me.
19But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation.
20For this cause therefore I asked to see you and to speak with you. For because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”
21They said to him, “We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor did any of the brothers come here and report or speak any evil of you.
22But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”
23When they had appointed him a day, many people came to him at his lodging. He explained to them, testifying about God’s Kingdom, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning until evening.
24Some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.
25When they didn’t agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one message: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,
26saying, ‘Go to this people and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive.
27For this people’s heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, then I would heal them.’
28“Be it known therefore to you that the salvation of God is sent to the nations, and they will listen.”
29When he had said these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.
30Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house and received all who were coming to him,
31preaching God’s Kingdom and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, without hindrance.
