Jetzt, nach unserer Rettung, erfuhren wir, daß die Insel Malta hieß.

Y CUANDO escapamos, entonces supimos que la isla se llamaba Melita.

And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

Die fremdsprachigen Eingeborenen erwiesen uns eine außerordentliche Menschenfreundlichkeit; denn sie zündeten einen Holzstoß an und gaben uns allen wegen des eingetretenen Regens und wegen der Kälte einen Platz (am Feuer).

Y los bárbaros nos mostraron no poca humanidad; porque, encendido un fuego, nos recibieron á todos, á causa de la lluvia que venía, y del frío.

And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

Als aber Paulus einen Haufen Reisig zusammenraffte und ihn auf den Holzstoß ins Feuer legte, fuhr eine Otter infolge der Hitze heraus und biß sich in seine Hand fest.

Entonces habiendo Pablo recogido algunos sarmientos, y puéstolos en el fuego, una víbora, huyendo del calor, le acometió á la mano.

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

Als nun die Eingeborenen das Tier an seiner Hand hängen sahen, sagten sie zueinander: »Dieser Mensch muß ein Mörder sein, den die Göttin der Vergeltung trotz seiner Rettung aus dem Meer nicht am Leben lassen will.«

Y como los bárbaros vieron la víbora colgando de su mano, decían los unos á los otros: Ciertamente este hombre es homicida, á quien, escapado de la mar, la justicia no deja vivir.

And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live.”

Er schleuderte jedoch das Tier von sich ab ins Feuer, und es widerfuhr ihm nichts Schlimmes.

Mas él, sacudiendo la víbora en el fuego, ningún mal padeció.

And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

Jene warteten zwar darauf, daß er anschwellen oder plötzlich tot niederfallen werde; als sie aber geraume Zeit gewartet hatten und nichts Unheilvolles an ihm vorgehen sahen, änderten sie ihre Meinung und sagten, er müsse ein Gott sein.

Empero ellos estaban esperando cuándo se había de hinchar, ó caer muerto de repente; mas habiendo esperado mucho, y viendo que ningún mal le venía, mudados, decían que era un dios.

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

Nun besaß in der Nähe jenes Ortes der vornehmste Mann der Insel namens Publius Landgüter; dieser nahm uns bei sich auf und beherbergte uns drei Tage lang freundlich.

En aquellos lugares había heredades del principal de la isla, llamado Publio, el cual nos recibió y hospedó tres días humanamente.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us and courteously entertained us for three days.

Der Vater des Publius aber lag gerade an Fieberanfällen und an der Ruhr krank darnieder. Paulus ging nun zu ihm ins Zimmer, legte ihm unter Gebet die Hände auf und machte ihn dadurch gesund.

Y aconteció que el padre de Publio estaba en cama, enfermo de fiebres y de disentería: al cual Pablo entró, y después de haber orado, le puso las manos encima, y le sanó:

And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

The father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him.

Infolgedessen kamen auch die anderen Inselbewohner, die an Krankheiten litten, zu ihm und ließen sich heilen.

Y esto hecho, también los otros que en la isla tenían enfermedades, llegaban, y eran sanados:

So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

Then when this was done, the rest also who had diseases in the island came and were cured.

Dafür erwies man uns denn auch viele Ehren und versah uns bei unserer Abfahrt mit allem, was wir nötig hatten.

Los cuales también nos honraron con muchos obsequios; y cuando partimos, nos cargaron de las cosas necesarias.

Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

Nach einem Vierteljahr fuhren wir dann auf einem alexandrinischen Schiff ab, das auf der Insel überwintert hatte und als Wahrzeichen das Bild der Dioskuren führte.

Así que, pasados tres meses, navegamos en una nave Alejandrina que había invernado en la isla, la cual tenía por enseña á Cástor y Pólux.

And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

Wir landeten hierauf in Syrakus, wo wir drei Tage blieben.

Von dort fuhren wir, im Bogen segelnd, nach Regium weiter und gelangten, da am folgenden Tage der Südwind einsetzte, schon in einer Fahrt von zwei Tagen nach Puteoli.

De allí, costeando alrededor, vinimos á Regio; y otro día después, soplando el austro, vinimos al segundo día á Puteolos:

And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:

From there we circled around and arrived at Rhegium. After one day, a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli,

Hier trafen wir Brüder an, die uns baten, sieben Tage bei ihnen zu bleiben; so gelangten wir denn nach Rom.

Donde habiendo hallado hermanos, nos rogaron que quedásemos con ellos siete días; y luego vinimos á Roma;

Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

where we found brothers, and were entreated to stay with them for seven days. So we came to Rome.

Von dort kamen uns die Brüder, die über uns schon Kunde erhalten hatten, bis Forum Appii und Tres Tabernä entgegen; bei ihrem Anblick sprach Paulus ein Dankgebet zu Gott und faßte neuen Mut.

De donde, oyendo de nosotros los hermanos, nos salieron á recibir hasta la plaza de Appio, y Las Tres Tabernas: á los cuales como Pablo vió, dió gracias á Dios, y tomó aliento.

And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

From there the brothers, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.

Nach unserer Ankunft in Rom †aber übergab der Hauptmann seine Gefangenen dem Befehlshaber der kaiserlichen Leibwache; Paulus aber erhielt die Erlaubnis, mit dem ihn bewachenden Soldaten eine eigene (Miets-) Wohnung zu beziehen.

Y como llegamos á Roma, el centurión entregó los presos al prefecto de los ejércitos, mas á Pablo fué permitido estar por sí, con un soldado que le guardase.

And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

When we entered into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, but Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who guarded him.

Nach drei Tagen lud er dann die Vornehmsten der Juden zu sich ein; und als sie sich eingefunden hatten, richtete er folgende Worte an sie: »Werte Brüder! Obgleich ich nichts Feindseliges gegen unser Volk und die Gebräuche der Väter begangen habe, bin ich doch als Gefangener von Jerusalem her den Römern in die Hände geliefert worden.

Y aconteció que tres días después, Pablo convocó á los principales de los Judíos; á los cuales, luego que estuvieron juntos, les dijo: Yo, varones hermanos, no habiendo hecho nada contra el pueblo, ni contra los ritos de la patria, he sido entregado preso desde Jerusalem en manos de los Romanos;

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

After three days Paul called together those who were the leaders of the Jews. When they had come together, he said to them, “I, brothers, though I had done nothing against the people or the customs of our fathers, still was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,

Diese wollten mich nach angestellter richterlicher Untersuchung freilassen, weil keine todeswürdige Schuld bei mir vorlag;

Los cuales, habiéndome examinado, me querían soltar, por no haber en mí ninguna causa de muerte.

Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.

weil jedoch die Juden Widerspruch erhoben, sah ich mich gezwungen, die Entscheidung des Kaisers anzurufen, nicht als ob ich gegen mein Volk eine Anklage vorzubringen hätte.

But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Cæsar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.

Aus diesem Grunde also habe ich euch zu mir gebeten, um euch zu sehen und mich mit euch zu besprechen; denn um der Hoffnung Israels willen habe ich diese Kette zu tragen.«

Así que, por esta causa, os he llamado para veros y hablaros; porque por la esperanza de Israel estoy rodeado de esta cadena.

For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

Sie gaben ihm zur Antwort: »Wir haben weder Zuschriften über dich aus Judäa erhalten, noch ist irgendein Bruder dagewesen, der etwas Nachteiliges über dich berichtet oder ausgesagt hätte.

Entonces ellos le dijeron: Nosotros ni hemos recibido cartas tocante á ti de Judea, ni ha venido alguno de los hermanos que haya denunciado ó hablado algún mal de ti.

And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judæa concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.

They said to him, “We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor did any of the brothers come here and report or speak any evil of you.

Wir halten es aber für billig, von dir über deine Ansichten Näheres zu erfahren; denn von dieser Sonderrichtung ist uns (allerdings) bekannt, daß sie überall auf Widerspruch stößt.«

Mas querríamos oir de ti lo que sientes; porque de esta secta notorio nos es que en todos lugares es contradicha.

But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”

So bestimmten sie ihm denn einen Tag und fanden sich (an diesem) bei ihm in seiner Wohnung in noch größerer Anzahl ein (als das erste Mal). Da legte er ihnen von früh morgens bis spät abends das Reich Gottes dar und bezeugte es ihnen, indem er sie im Anschluß sowohl an das mosaische Gesetz als an die Propheten für Jesus zu gewinnen suchte.

Y habiéndole señalado un día, vinieron á él muchos á la posada, á los cuales declaraba y testificaba el reino de Dios, persuadiéndoles lo concerniente á Jesús, por la ley de Moisés y por los profetas, desde la mañana hasta la tarde.

And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

Ein Teil von ihnen ließ sich auch durch seine Darlegungen überzeugen, die anderen dagegen blieben ungläubig.

Y algunos asentían á lo que se decía, mas algunos no creían.

And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

Ohne also zu einer Einigung miteinander gelangt zu sein, trennten sie sich, nachdem Paulus noch das eine Wort an sie gerichtet hatte: »Treffend hat der heilige Geist durch den Propheten Jesaja zu euren Vätern gesagt:

Y como fueron entre sí discordes, se fueron, diciendo Pablo esta palabra: Bien ha hablado el Espíritu Santo por el profeta Isaías á nuestros padres,

And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,

When they didn’t agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one message: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,

›Gehe zu diesem Volk und sprich: Ihr werdet immerfort hören und doch kein Verständnis erlangen, und ihr werdet immerfort sehen und doch nicht wahrnehmen.

Diciendo: Ve á este pueblo, y diles: De oído oiréis, y no entenderéis; y viendo veréis, y no percibiréis:

Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

saying, ‘Go to this people and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive.

Denn das Herz dieses Volkes ist verhärtet, und ihre Ohren sind schwerhörig geworden, und ihre Augen haben sie geschlossen, damit sie mit ihren Augen nicht sehen und mit ihren Ohren nicht hören und mit ihrem Herzen nicht zum Verständnis gelangen, so daß sie sich bekehren und ich sie heile.‹

Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha engrosado, y de los oídos oyeron pesadamente, y sus ojos taparon; porque no vean con los ojos, y oigan con los oídos, y entiendan de corazón, y se conviertan, y yo los sane.

For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

For this people’s heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, then I would heal them.’

So sei euch denn kundgetan, daß diese Rettung Gottes den Heiden gesandt worden ist:

Séaos pues notorio que á los Gentiles es enviada esta salud de Dios: y ellos oirán.

Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

“Be it known therefore to you that the salvation of God is sent to the nations, and they will listen.”

die werden ihr auch Gehör schenken!«

Y habiendo dicho esto, los Judíos salieron, teniendo entre sí gran contienda.

And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

When he had said these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.

Paulus blieb dann zwei volle Jahre in einer eigenen Mietswohnung und nahm (daselbst) alle auf, die ihn besuchten;

Pablo empero, quedó dos años enteros en su casa de alquiler, y recibía á todos los que á él venían,

And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,

Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house and received all who were coming to him,

er verkündigte dabei das Reich Gottes und erteilte Belehrung über den Herrn Jesus Christus mit vollem Freimut, ungehindert.

Predicando el reino de Dios y enseñando lo que es del Señor Jesucristo con toda libertad, sin impedimento.

Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

preaching God’s Kingdom and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, without hindrance.
