O povo da ilha viu a cobra pendurada na mão de Paulo e diziam uns aos outros: “Sem dúvida ele é um assassino! Embora escapasse do mar, a Justiça não permite que ele viva!”
Y como los bárbaros vieron la víbora colgando de su mano, decían los unos á los otros: Ciertamente este hombre es homicida, á quien, escapado de la mar, la justicia no deja vivir.
And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live.”
Mas Paulo sacudiu a cobra no fogo e não sofreu nenhum dano.

O povo esperava que ele começasse a inchar ou caísse morto de repente; mas, depois que esperaram muito tempo e não aconteceu nada, mudaram de opinião e concluíram que ele era um deus.

Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

Perto da praia onde descemos havia uma fazenda de propriedade de Públio, o homem principal da ilha. Ele nos recebeu em sua casa e nos deu comida durante três dias.
En aquellos lugares había heredades del principal de la isla, llamado Publio, el cual nos recibió y hospedó tres días humanamente.
In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.
Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us and courteously entertained us for three days.
O pai de Públio estava doente de febre e disenteria. Paulo entrou para vê-lo e orou por ele, impôs as mãos sobre sua cabeça, e ele foi curado!
Y aconteció que el padre de Publio estaba en cama, enfermo de fiebres y de disentería: al cual Pablo entró, y después de haber orado, le puso las manos encima, y le sanó:
And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.
The father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him.
Então todos os outros doentes da ilha, sabendo do milagre, vieram e foram curados.
Y esto hecho, también los otros que en la isla tenían enfermedades, llegaban, y eran sanados:
So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

Como resultado ganhamos muitos presentes, e quando chegou o tempo de partirmos, o povo pôs a bordo toda espécie de suprimentos que precisávamos para a viagem.
Los cuales también nos honraron con muchos obsequios; y cuando partimos, nos cargaron de las cosas necesarias.
Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.

Passaram-se três meses depois do naufrágio, antes de nos fazermos ao mar novamente, e desta vez fomos no navio que tinha na proa a figura dos deuses gêmeos Cástor e Pólux, um navio que vinha de Alexandria e tinha passado o inverno na ilha.

onde encontramos alguns irmãos! Eles nos convidaram para que ficássemos com eles uma semana. Depois navegamos para Roma.
Donde habiendo hallado hermanos, nos rogaron que quedásemos con ellos siete días; y luego vinimos á Roma;
Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.

Os irmãos de Roma tinham sabido que estávamos chegando e vieram encontrar-se conosco no fórum da via Ápia. Outros se reuniram a nós nas Três Vendas. Quando Paulo os viu, deu graças a Deus e sentiu-se animado.
De donde, oyendo de nosotros los hermanos, nos salieron á recibir hasta la plaza de Appio, y Las Tres Tabernas: á los cuales como Pablo vió, dió gracias á Dios, y tomó aliento.
And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.

Ao chegarmos a Roma, Paulo teve permissão para morar onde quisesse, embora sob a custódia de um soldado.
Y como llegamos á Roma, el centurión entregó los presos al prefecto de los ejércitos, mas á Pablo fué permitido estar por sí, con un soldado que le guardase.
And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.

Eles me interrogaram e queriam me soltar, porque não acharam causa para a sentença de morte exigida pelos líderes judaicos.

Pedi a vocês que viessem até aqui hoje para que pudéssemos nos conhecer e eu pudesse contar-lhes por que estou preso com estas algemas. É por causa daquele que o povo de Israel espera”.
Así que, por esta causa, os he llamado para veros y hablaros; porque por la esperanza de Israel estoy rodeado de esta cadena.
For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.

Eles responderam: “Nós não temos ouvido nada contra você! Não recebemos nenhuma carta da Judeia, nem informação daqueles que chegam de Jerusalém, falando mal contra você.
Entonces ellos le dijeron: Nosotros ni hemos recibido cartas tocante á ti de Judea, ni ha venido alguno de los hermanos que haya denunciado ó hablado algún mal de ti.
And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judæa concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
They said to him, “We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor did any of the brothers come here and report or speak any evil of you.
Mas queremos saber em que você crê, porque a única coisa que sabemos a respeito desses seguidores de Cristo é que eles são combatidos em toda parte!”
Mas querríamos oir de ti lo que sientes; porque de esta secta notorio nos es que en todos lugares es contradicha.
But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”
Assim foi que eles marcaram uma ocasião, e naquele dia um grande número de judeus veio à casa dele. Paulo testemunhou do Reino de Deus e ensinou-lhes a respeito de Jesus, usando as Escrituras — os cinco livros de Moisés e os Profetas. Ele começou a conferência de manhã e prosseguiu até a noite!
Y habiéndole señalado un día, vinieron á él muchos á la posada, á los cuales declaraba y testificaba el reino de Dios, persuadiéndoles lo concerniente á Jesús, por la ley de Moisés y por los profetas, desde la mañana hasta la tarde.
And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

Mas, depois que eles haviam discutido contra e a favor entre si, retiraram-se com esta palavra final de Paulo, ressoando nos ouvidos deles: “O Espírito Santo estava certo, quando disse por meio do profeta Isaías:
Y como fueron entre sí discordes, se fueron, diciendo Pablo esta palabra: Bien ha hablado el Espíritu Santo por el profeta Isaías á nuestros padres,
And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
When they didn’t agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one message: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,
“ ‘Digam aos judeus: Ainda que estejam sempre ouvindo, vocês nunca entenderão; ainda que estejam sempre vendo, jamais perceberão.
Diciendo: Ve á este pueblo, y diles: De oído oiréis, y no entenderéis; y viendo veréis, y no percibiréis:
Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
saying, ‘Go to this people and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive.
Torne insensível o coração deste povo; tampe os ouvidos e feche os olhos deles. Assim, eles não verão com os olhos, não ouvirão com os ouvidos, nem compreenderão com o coração, para que não se voltem para mim e sejam curados’.
Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha engrosado, y de los oídos oyeron pesadamente, y sus ojos taparon; porque no vean con los ojos, y oigan con los oídos, y entiendan de corazón, y se conviertan, y yo los sane.
For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
For this people’s heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, then I would heal them.’
“Portanto eu quero que vocês entendam que esta salvação vinda de Deus vai ser pregada aos gentios, e eles a ouvirão”.
Séaos pues notorio que á los Gentiles es enviada esta salud de Dios: y ellos oirán.
Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
“Be it known therefore to you that the salvation of God is sent to the nations, and they will listen.”
Depois disso, os judeus foram embora discutindo intensamente entre si.
Y habiendo dicho esto, los Judíos salieron, teniendo entre sí gran contienda.
And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

Paulo morou durante dois anos na casa que alugou, e recebia a todos os que iam visitá-lo.
Pablo empero, quedó dos años enteros en su casa de alquiler, y recibía á todos los que á él venían,
And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house and received all who were coming to him,
Falava a eles com toda a coragem a respeito do Reino de Deus e ensinava acerca do Senhor Jesus Cristo; e tinha toda liberdade para fazer assim.
Predicando el reino de Dios y enseñando lo que es del Señor Jesucristo con toda libertad, sin impedimento.
Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
preaching God’s Kingdom and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, without hindrance.
