Pero se dio el caso de un hombre llamado Ananías, esposo de Safira, que vendió cierta propiedad,

MAS un varón llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una posesión,

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

pero entregó sólo una parte del dinero a los apóstoles y se quedó con el resto. Su esposa, desde luego, estaba enterada de todo.

Y defraudó del precio, sabiéndolo también su mujer; y trayendo una parte, púsola á los pies de los apóstoles.

―Ananías —lo reprendió Pedro—, ¿por qué has permitido que Satanás te llene el corazón? ¿Por qué dices que este es el importe total de la venta? Le estás mintiendo al Espíritu Santo.

Y dijo Pedro: Ananías, ¿por qué ha llenado Satanás tu corazón á que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y defraudases del precio de la heredad?

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land?

¿Acaso no era tuya esa propiedad antes de venderla? Y una vez vendida, ¿no era tuyo el dinero? ¿Por qué has hecho esto? No nos has mentido a nosotros, sino a Dios.

Reteniéndola, ¿no se te quedaba á ti? y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu potestad? ¿Por qué pusiste esto en tu corazón? No has mentido á los hombres, sino á Dios.

Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.”

Al escuchar estas palabras, Ananías cayó al suelo y murió, y un gran temor se apoderó de los que escucharon esto.

Entonces Ananías, oyendo estas palabras, cayó y espiró. Y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron.

And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

Los jóvenes cubrieron entonces el cadáver con una sábana y salieron a enterrarlo.

Y levantándose los mancebos, le tomaron, y sacándolo, sepultáronlo.

And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

Como tres horas más tarde, llegó la esposa, sin saber lo ocurrido.

Y pasado espacio como de tres horas, sucedió que entró su mujer, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido.

And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

―¿Vendiste el terreno en tal precio? —le preguntó Pedro. ―Sí —respondió.

Entonces Pedro le dijo: Dime: ¿vendisteis en tanto la heredad? Y ella dijo: Sí, en tanto.

And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” She said, “Yes, for so much.”

Le dijo Pedro: —¿Por qué se pusieron de acuerdo para poner a prueba al Espíritu del Señor? Detrás de esa puerta están los jóvenes que acaban de enterrar a tu esposo y ahora te sacarán también a ti.

Y Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué os concertasteis para tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí á la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado á tu marido, y te sacarán.

Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

But Peter asked her, “How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

Instantáneamente cayó al suelo muerta. Los jóvenes entraron y, al verla muerta, la sacaron y la enterraron junto a su esposo.

Y luego cayó á los pies de él, y espiró: y entrados los mancebos, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto á su marido.

Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

She fell down immediately at his feet and died. The young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband.

Un gran terror se apoderó de toda la iglesia y de todas las personas que se enteraron de lo que había pasado.

Y vino un gran temor en toda la iglesia, y en todos los que oyeron estas cosas.

And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Great fear came on the whole assembly, and on all who heard these things.

Los apóstoles siguieron reuniéndose regularmente en el portal de Salomón, y por medio de ellos Dios siguió realizando milagros extraordinarios entre el pueblo.

Y por las manos de los apóstoles eran hechos muchos milagros y prodigios en el pueblo; y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón.

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

Aunque ninguno de los otros se atrevía a unírseles, a pesar del alto aprecio que les tenían,

Y de los otros, ninguno osaba juntarse con ellos; mas el pueblo los alababa grandemente.

And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

None of the rest dared to join them; however, the people honored them.

el número de hombres y mujeres que creían en el Señor aumentaba más y más.

And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

La gente colocaba a los enfermos en las calles en colchonetas y camillas para que al menos la sombra de Pedro los tocara.

Tanto que echaban los enfermos por las calles, y los ponían en camas y en lechos, para que viniendo Pedro, á lo menos su sombra tocase á alguno de ellos.

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

Grandes multitudes acudían de los suburbios de Jerusalén trayendo enfermos y endemoniados, y todos eran sanados.

Y aun de las ciudades vecinas concurría multitud á Jerusalem, trayendo enfermos y atormentados de espíritus inmundos; los cuales todos eran curados.

There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

El sumo sacerdote y sus colegas de la secta de los saduceos reaccionaron con envidia,

Entonces levantándose el príncipe de los sacerdotes, y todos los que estaban con él, que es la secta de los Saduceos, se llenaron de celo;

Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

y arrestaron a los apóstoles y los metieron en la cárcel.

Pero un ángel del Señor abrió de noche las puertas de la cárcel y los sacó de allí.

―Vayan al templo y prediquen acerca de la Vida —les ordenó el ángel.

Id, y estando en el templo, hablad al pueblo todas las palabras de esta vida.

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

Llegaron, pues, al templo al rayar el día, e inmediatamente se pusieron a enseñar. Aquella misma mañana el sumo sacerdote llegó con los que estaban con él y, tras reunir al concilio y a todos los ancianos de Israel, ordenó que trajeran de la cárcel a los apóstoles.

Y oído que hubieron esto, entraron de mañana en el templo, y enseñaban. Entre tanto, viniendo el príncipe de los sacerdotes, y los que eran con él, convocaron el concilio, y á todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel, y enviaron á la cárcel para que fuesen traídos.

And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

Pero cuando los guardias llegaron a la cárcel no los encontraron allí, y regresaron a notificarlo.

Mas como llegaron los ministros, y no los hallaron en la cárcel, volvieron, y dieron aviso,

But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,

But the officers who came didn’t find them in the prison. They returned and reported,

―Las puertas de la cárcel estaban cerradas —dijeron— y los guardias estaban fuera, pero al abrir la puerta no encontramos a nadie.

Diciendo: Por cierto, la cárcel hemos hallado cerrada con toda seguridad, y los guardas que estaban delante de las puertas; mas cuando abrimos, á nadie hallamos dentro.

Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

“We found the prison shut and locked, and the guards standing before the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside!”

Después de escuchar esto, el jefe de la guardia y los principales sacerdotes estaban confundidos y se preguntaban a dónde iría a parar todo aquello.

Y cuando oyeron estas palabras el pontífice y el magistrado del templo y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, dudaban en qué vendría á parar aquello.

Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were very perplexed about them and what might become of this.

En ese preciso instante, llegó uno con la noticia de que los prisioneros estaban en el templo enseñándole al pueblo.

Pero viniendo uno, dióles esta noticia: He aquí, los varones que echasteis en la cárcel, están en el templo, y enseñan al pueblo.

Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

One came and told them, “Behold, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.”

El jefe de la guardia corrió con los alguaciles a arrestarlos, sin hacer uso de la fuerza, por temor a que el pueblo los apedreara.

Entonces fué el magistrado con los ministros, y trájolos sin violencia; porque temían del pueblo ser apedreados.

Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

Los condujeron ante el concilio, y el sumo sacerdote los reconvino:

Y como los trajeron, los presentaron en el concilio: y el príncipe de los sacerdotes les preguntó,

And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

―¿No les habíamos prohibido que volvieran a enseñar acerca de Jesús? Ustedes han llenado a Jerusalén de sus enseñanzas y tratan de descargar en nosotros la culpa de la muerte de ese hombre.

Diciendo: ¿No os denunciamos estrechamente, que no enseñaseis en este nombre? y he aquí, habéis llenado á Jerusalem de vuestra doctrina, y queréis echar sobre nosotros la sangre de este hombre.

Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

saying, “Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.”

―Tenemos que obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres —respondieron Pedro y los apóstoles—.

Y respondiendo Pedro y los apóstoles, dijeron: Es menester obedecer á Dios antes que á los hombres.

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.

El Dios de nuestros antepasados resucitó a Jesús, al que ustedes mataron colgándolo en una cruz.

El Dios de nuestros padres levantó á Jesús, al cual vosotros matasteis colgándole en un madero.

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

Luego, con su gran poder, lo exaltó como Príncipe y Salvador, para que el pueblo de Israel se vuelva a Dios y alcance el perdón de sus pecados.

A éste ha Dios ensalzado con su diestra por Príncipe y Salvador, para dar á Israel arrepentimiento y remisión de pecados.

Nosotros somos testigos de esas cosas, y también lo es el Espíritu Santo que Dios ha concedido a los que lo obedecen.

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Al oírlos, los miembros del concilio, rabiando de furia, querían matarlos.

Ellos, oyendo esto, regañaban, y consultaban matarlos.

When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

Pero uno de ellos, un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, experto en cuestiones de la ley y muy respetado entre el pueblo, pidió la palabra y solicitó que sacaran a los apóstoles del salón.

Entonces levantándose en el concilio un Fariseo llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la ley, venerable á todo el pueblo, mandó que sacasen fuera un poco á los apóstoles.

Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

But one stood up in the council, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, honored by all the people, and commanded to put the apostles out for a little while.

Entonces se dirigió a ellos con las siguientes palabras: ―Varones de Israel, mediten bien lo que van a hacer con estos hombres.

Y les dijo: Varones Israelitas, mirad por vosotros acerca de estos hombres en lo que habéis de hacer.

And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

He said to them, “You men of Israel, be careful concerning these men, what you are about to do.

Hace algún tiempo se levantó con sueños de grandeza un tal Teudas, al que se le unieron unas cuatrocientas personas; pero murió asesinado y los seguidores se dispersaron sin provocar mayores dolores de cabeza.

Porque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien; al que se agregó un número de hombres como cuatrocientos: el cual fué matado; y todos los que le creyeron fueron dispersos, y reducidos á nada.

For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

Después de este, durante los días del censo, surgió Judas de Galilea, quien logró que muchas personas se hicieran discípulos suyos; pero también lo mataron y sus seguidores se dispersaron.

Después de éste, se levantó Judas el Galileo en los días del empadronamiento, y llevó mucho pueblo tras sí. Pereció también aquél; y todos los que consintieron con él, fueron derramados.

After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the enrollment, and drew away some people after him. He also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.

Por lo tanto, recomiendo que dejen tranquilos a estos hombres. Si lo que enseñan y hacen obedece a impulsos personales, pronto se desvanecerá.

Y ahora os digo: Dejaos de estos hombres, y dejadlos; porque si este consejo ó esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá:

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

Now I tell you, withdraw from these men and leave them alone. For if this counsel or this work is of men, it will be overthrown.

Mas si es de Dios, ustedes no podrán detenerlos. ¡No sea que descubran que han estado peleando contra Dios!

Mas si es de Dios, no la podréis deshacer; no seáis tal vez hallados resistiendo á Dios.

But if it be of God, ye can not overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow it, and you would be found even to be fighting against God!”

El concilio aceptó la recomendación, llamó a los apóstoles y, después de azotarlos, les exigieron que no volvieran a hablar en el nombre de Jesús. Finalmente, los pusieron en libertad.

Y convinieron con él: y llamando á los apóstoles, después de azotados, les intimaron que no hablasen en el nombre de Jesús, y soltáronlos.

And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Al salir del concilio, los discípulos iban gozosos de haber sido tenidos por dignos de sufrir ultrajes por la causa del Nombre.

Y ellos partieron de delante del concilio, gozosos de que fuesen tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por el Nombre.

And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for Jesus’ name.

Y siguieron enseñando y predicando todos los días en el templo y de casa en casa, que Jesús era el Mesías.

Y todos los días, en el templo y por las casas, no cesaban de enseñar y predicar á Jesucristo.

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Every day, in the temple and at home, they never stopped teaching and preaching Jesus, the Christ.
