La asamblea en pleno aprobó la recomendación. Eligieron a Esteban, varón lleno de fe y del Espíritu Santo, y también a Felipe, Prócoro, Nicanor, Timón, Parmenas y Nicolás, un converso de Antioquía.

Tal acusación encendió los ánimos del pueblo, de los ancianos y de los maestros de la ley contra Esteban. Lo arrestaron y lo presentaron ante el concilio.
Y conmovieron al pueblo, y á los ancianos, y á los escribas; y arremetiendo le arrebataron, y le trajeron al concilio.

Allí, una vez más, los falsos testigos afirmaron que Esteban no cesaba de hablar contra el templo y la ley de Moisés.

―Le oímos decir —declararon— que Jesús de Nazaret destruirá el templo y cambiará las leyes de Moisés.

Entonces los presentes en el salón del concilio vieron que el rostro de Esteban se parecía al de un ángel.
