Der Hohepriester fragte ihn nun: »Verhält sich dies so?«

EL príncipe de los sacerdotes dijo entonces: ¿Es esto así?

Then said the high priest, Are these things so?

The high priest said, “Are these things so?”

Da antwortete Stephanus: »Werte Brüder und Väter, hört mich an! Der Gott der Herrlichkeit erschien unserm Vater Abraham, als er noch in Mesopotamien wohnte, bevor er sich in Haran niedergelassen hatte,

Y él dijo: Varones hermanos y padres, oid: El Dios de la gloria apareció á nuestro padre Abraham, estando en Mesopotamia, antes que morase en Chârán,

And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

He said, “Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

und gebot ihm: ›Verlaß dein Heimatland und deine Verwandtschaft und ziehe in das Land, das ich dir zeigen werde!‹

Y le dijo: Sal de tu tierra y de tu parentela, y ven á la tierra que te mostraré.

And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

and said to him, ‘Get out of your land and away from your relatives, and come into a land which I will show you.’

Da wanderte er aus dem Lande der Chaldäer aus und ließ sich in Haran nieder. Von dort ließ Gott ihn dann nach dem Tode seines Vaters in dieses Land hier übersiedeln, das ihr noch jetzt bewohnt;

Entonces salió de la tierra de los Caldeos, y habitó en Chârán: y de allí, muerto su padre, le traspasó á esta tierra, en la cual vosotros habitáis ahora;

Then came he out of the land of the Chaldæans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans and lived in Haran. From there, when his father was dead, God moved him into this land where you are now living.

doch gab er ihm keinen festen Besitz darin, auch nicht einen Fuß breit, verhieß ihm jedoch, er wolle es ihm und seiner Nachkommenschaft späterhin zum Eigentum geben, obgleich er damals noch kein Kind hatte.

So lauteten aber Gottes Worte: ›Seine Nachkommen werden als Beisassen in einem fremden Lande ansässig sein, wo man sie vierhundert Jahre lang knechten und mißhandeln wird;

Y hablóle Dios así: Que su simiente sería extranjera en tierra ajena, y que los reducirían á servidumbre y maltratarían, por cuatrocientos años.

And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

God spoke in this way: that his offspring would live as aliens in a strange land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated for four hundred years.

doch das Volk, dem sie als Knechte dienen werden, will ich richten‹, sagte Gott; ›und hierauf werden sie ausziehen und mir an dieser Stätte dienen.‹

Mas yo juzgaré, dijo Dios, la nación á la cual serán siervos: y después de esto saldrán y me servirán en este lugar.

And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.

‘I will judge the nation to which they will be in bondage,’ said God, ‘and after that they will come out and serve me in this place.’

Dann gab Gott ihm den Bund der Beschneidung, und so wurde Abraham der Vater Isaaks, den er am achten Tage beschnitt; Isaak wurde dann der Vater Jakobs und Jakob der Vater der zwölf Erzväter.

Y dióle el pacto de la circuncisión: y así Abraham engendró á Isaac, y le circuncidó al octavo día; é Isaac á Jacob, y Jacob á los doce patriarcas.

And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.

Weil dann aber die Erzväter auf Joseph neidisch wurden, verkauften sie ihn nach Ägypten; doch Gott war mit ihm

Y los patriarcas, movidos de envidia, vendieron á José para Egipto; mas Dios era con él,

And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,

und rettete ihn aus allen seinen Bedrängnissen und verlieh ihm Gnade und Weisheit vor dem Pharao, dem ägyptischen König, der ihn zum Gebieter über Ägypten und über sein ganzes Haus einsetzte.

Y le libró de todas sus tribulaciones, y le dió gracia y sabiduría en la presencia de Faraón, rey de Egipto, el cual le puso por gobernador sobre Egipto, y sobre toda su casa.

And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

Da kam eine Hungersnot und große Drangsal über das ganze Land Ägypten und Kanaan, und unsere Väter hatten nichts zu essen.

Vino entonces hambre en toda la tierra de Egipto y de Canaán, y grande tribulación; y nuestros padres no hallaban alimentos.

Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

Als aber Jakob erfuhr, daß in Ägypten Getreide zu haben sei, sandte er unsere Väter zum erstenmal hin.

Y como oyese Jacob que había trigo en Egipto, envió á nuestros padres la primera vez.

Beim zweitenmal gab sich dann Joseph seinen Brüdern zu erkennen, und Josephs Herkunft wurde dem Pharao bekannt.

Y en la segunda, José fué conocido de sus hermanos, y fué sabido de Faraón el linaje de José.

And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph’s kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.

Joseph sandte dann hin und ließ seinen Vater Jakob und seine gesamte Verwandtschaft holen, im ganzen fünfundsiebenzig Seelen.

Y enviando José, hizo venir á su padre Jacob, y á toda su parentela, en número de setenta y cinco personas.

Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.

sie wurden nach Sichem überführt und in dem Grabe beigesetzt, das Abraham für eine Geldsumme von den Söhnen Hemors in Sichem gekauft hatte.«

Los cuales fueron trasladados á Sichêm, y puestos en el sepulcro que compró Abraham á precio de dinero de los hijos de Hemor de Sichêm.

And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.

and they were brought back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver from the children of Hamor of Shechem.

»Je näher aber die Zeit der Verheißung kam, die Gott dem Abraham zugesagt hatte, desto mehr wuchs das Volk in Ägypten an und wurde zahlreich,

Mas como se acercaba el tiempo de la promesa, la cual Dios había jurado á Abraham, el pueblo creció y multiplicóse en Egipto,

But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

bis ein anderer König zur Regierung über Ägypten kam, der von Joseph nichts wußte.

Hasta que se levantó otro rey en Egipto que no conocía á José.

Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.

until there arose a different king who didn’t know Joseph.

Dieser verfuhr arglistig gegen unser Volk und mißhandelte unsere Väter, so daß sie ihre neugeborenen Kinder aussetzen mußten, damit sie nicht am Leben bleiben sollten.

Este, usando de astucia con nuestro linaje, maltrató á nuestros padres, á fin de que pusiesen á peligro de muerte sus niños, para que cesase la generación.

The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

The same took advantage of our race and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to abandon their babies, so that they wouldn’t stay alive.

In dieser Zeit wurde Mose geboren und war ein ausnehmend schönes Kind; drei Monate lang wurde er im Elternhause aufgezogen,

En aquel mismo tiempo nació Moisés, y fué agradable á Dios: y fué criado tres meses en casa de su padre.

In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father’s house three months:

und als man ihn dann ausgesetzt hatte, nahm ihn die Tochter Pharaos zu sich und erzog ihn für sich selbst zum Sohn.

Mas siendo puesto al peligro, la hija de Faraón le tomó, y le crió como á hijo suyo.

And when he was cast out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.

When he was abandoned, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up and reared him as her own son.

So wurde denn Mose in aller Weisheit der Ägypter unterrichtet und war gewaltig in seinen Worten und Taten.

Y fué enseñado Moisés en toda la sabiduría de los egipcios; y era poderoso en sus dichos y hechos.

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

Als er aber volle vierzig Jahre alt geworden war, stieg das Verlangen in ihm auf, sich einmal nach seinen Brüdern, den Israeliten, umzusehen;

Y cuando hubo cumplido la edad de cuarenta años, le vino voluntad de visitar á sus hermanos los hijos de Israel.

And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.

und als er einen von ihnen sah, dem Unrecht geschah, leistete er ihm Beistand und verschaffte dem Mißhandelten Genugtuung, indem er den Ägypter erschlug.

Y como vió á uno que era injuriado, defendióle, é hiriendo al Egipcio, vengó al injuriado.

And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:

Dabei war er der Meinung, seine Volksgenossen würden zu der Einsicht kommen, daß Gott ihnen durch seine Hand Rettung schaffen würde; doch sie erkannten es nicht.

Pero él pensaba que sus hermanos entendían que Dios les había de dar salud por su mano; mas ellos no lo habían entendido.

For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.

He supposed that his brothers understood that God, by his hand, was giving them deliverance; but they didn’t understand.

Am folgenden Tage kam er gerade dazu, als zwei von ihnen einen Streit miteinander hatten; da wollte er sie versöhnen, damit sie Frieden hielten, indem er sagte: ›Ihr Männer, ihr seid doch Brüder: warum tut ihr einander unrecht?‹

Y al día siguiente, riñendo ellos, se les mostró, y los ponía en paz, diciendo: Varones, hermanos sois, ¿por qué os injuriáis los unos á los otros?

And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?

“The day following, he appeared to them as they fought, and urged them to be at peace again, saying, ‘Sirs, you are brothers. Why do you wrong one another?’

Der aber, welcher seinem Genossen unrecht tat, stieß ihn zurück mit den Worten: ›Wer hat dich zum Oberhaupt und Richter über uns eingesetzt?

Entonces el que injuriaba á su prójimo, le rempujó, diciendo: ¿Quién te ha puesto por príncipe y juez sobre nosotros?

But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?

Willst du mich etwa ebenso erschlagen, wie du gestern den Ägypter erschlagen hast?‹

¿Quieres tú matarme, como mataste ayer al Egipcio?

Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?

Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’

Um dieses Wortes willen ergriff Mose die Flucht und lebte als Fremdling im Lande Midian, wo ihm zwei Söhne geboren wurden.

A esta palabra Moisés huyó, y se hizo extranjero en tierra de Madián, donde engendró dos hijos.

Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.

Als dann wieder volle vierzig Jahre vergangen waren, erschien ihm in der Wüste des Berges Sinai ein Engel in der Feuerflamme eines Dornbusches.

Y cumplidos cuarenta años, un ángel le apareció en el desierto del monte Sina, en fuego de llama de una zarza.

And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

“When forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

Als Mose das sah, verwunderte er sich über die Erscheinung; als er aber näher hinzutrat, um genauer zuzusehen, erscholl die Stimme des Herrn:

Entonces Moisés mirando, se maravilló de la visión: y llegándose para considerar, fué hecha á él voz del Señor:

When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,

›Ich bin der Gott deiner Väter, der Gott Abrahams, Isaaks und Jakobs.‹ Da begann Mose zu zittern und wagte nicht, genauer hinzusehen.

Yo soy el Dios de tus padres, el Dios de Abraham, y el Dios de Isaac, y el Dios de Jacob. Mas Moisés, temeroso, no osaba mirar.

Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

‘I am the God of your fathers: the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ Moses trembled and dared not look.

Der Herr aber sagte zu ihm: ›Ziehe dir die Schuhe ab von den Füßen; denn die Stätte, auf der du stehst, ist heiliges Land.

Y le dijo el Señor: Quita los zapatos de tus pies, porque el lugar en que estás es tierra santa.

Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.

The Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

Ich habe die Mißhandlung meines Volkes in Ägypten gesehen und ihr Seufzen gehört; darum bin ich herabgekommen, sie zu erretten. Und jetzt komm: ich will dich nach Ägypten senden!‹

He visto, he visto la aflicción de mi pueblo que está en Egipto, y he oído el gemido de ellos, y he descendido para librarlos. Ahora pues, ven, te enviaré á Egipto.

I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.

I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their groaning. I have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you into Egypt.’

Diesen Mose, den sie verleugnet hatten, als sie sagten: ›Wer hat dich zum Oberhaupt und Richter (über uns) gesetzt?‹, eben diesen hat Gott als Oberhaupt und Erlöser gesandt durch die Vermittlung des Engels, der ihm im Dornbusch erschienen war.

A este Moisés, al cual habían rehusado, diciendo: ¿Quién te ha puesto por príncipe y juez? á éste envió Dios por príncipe y redentor con la mano del ángel que le apareció en la zarza.

This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

“This Moses whom they refused, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—God has sent him as both a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

Dieser ist es auch, der sie (aus dem Lande) weggeführt hat, indem er Wunder und Zeichen im Lande Ägypten und am Roten Meer sowie vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste tat.

Este los sacó, habiendo hecho prodigios y milagros en la tierra de Egipto, y en el mar Bermejo, y en el desierto por cuarenta años.

He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

This man led them out, having worked wonders and signs in Egypt, in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.

Dieser Mose ist es, der zu den Israeliten gesagt hat: ›Einen Propheten wie mich wird Gott euch aus euren Volksgenossen erwecken.‹

Este es el Moisés, el cual dijo á los hijos de Israel: Profeta os levantará el Señor Dios vuestro de vuestros hermanos, como yo; á él oiréis.

This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.

This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord our God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, like me.’

Dieser ist es, der bei der Gemeindeversammlung in der Wüste Vermittler gewesen ist zwischen dem Engel, der auf dem Berge Sinai zu ihm redete, und zwischen unsern Vätern, derselbe, der lebendige Worte empfing, um sie uns mitzuteilen.

Este es aquél que estuvo en la congregación en el desierto con el ángel que le hablaba en el monte Sina, y con nuestros padres; y recibió las palabras de vida para darnos:

This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel that spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received living revelations to give to us,

Doch unsere Väter wollten ihm nicht gehorsam sein; vielmehr stießen sie ihn von sich und sehnten sich nach Ägypten zurück

Al cual nuestros padres no quisieron obedecer; antes le desecharon, y se apartaron de corazón á Egipto,

To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

to whom our fathers wouldn’t be obedient, but rejected him and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,

und sagten zu Aaron: ›Mache uns Götter, die vor uns herziehen sollen! Denn von diesem Mose, der uns aus dem Lande Ägypten herausgeführt hat, wissen wir nicht, was aus ihm geworden ist.‹

Diciendo á Aarón: Haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros; porque á este Moisés, que nos sacó de tierra de Egipto, no sabemos qué le ha acontecido.

Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

saying to Aaron, ‘Make us gods that will go before us, for as for this Moses who led us out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’

So machten sie sich denn damals ein Stierbild, brachten diesem Götzen Opfer dar und hatten ihre Freude an den Werken ihrer Hände.

Y entonces hicieron un becerro, y ofrecieron sacrificio al ídolo, y en las obras de sus manos se holgaron.

And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

Da wandte Gott sich von ihnen ab und gab sie dahin, daß sie dem Sternenheer des Himmels dienten, wie im Buch der Propheten geschrieben steht: ›Habt ihr etwa mir Schlachttiere und Opfergaben während der vierzig Jahre in der Wüste dargebracht, ihr vom Hause Israel?

Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?

But God turned away and gave them up to serve the army of the sky, as it is written in the book of the prophets, ‘Did you offer to me slain animals and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

Nein, das Zelt des Moloch und das Sternbild des Gottes Rephan habt ihr getragen, die Götzenbilder, die ihr zur Anbetung angefertigt hattet; darum werde ich euch über Babylon hinaus (in die Verbannung) wegführen lassen.‹«

Antes, trajisteis el tabernáculo de Moloch, y la estrella de vuestro dios Remphan: figuras que os hicisteis para adorarlas: os transportaré pues, más allá de Babilonia.

Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

»Die Hütte des Zeugnisses hatten unsere Väter in der Wüste so, wie Gott es angeordnet hatte, als er dem Mose gebot, sie nach dem Vorbild, das er gesehen hatte, herzustellen.

Tuvieron nuestros padres el tabernáculo del testimonio en el desierto, como había ordenado Dios, hablando á Moisés que lo hiciese según la forma que había visto.

Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.

“Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern that he had seen;

Diese (Hütte) haben unsere Väter dann auch übernommen und sie unter Josua in das Gebiet der Heidenvölker gebracht, die Gott vor den Augen unserer Väter vertrieb; (und so blieb es) bis zur Zeit Davids.

El cual recibido, metieron también nuestros padres con Josué en la posesión de los Gentiles, que Dios echó de la presencia de nuestros padres, hasta los días de David;

Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered into the possession of the nations whom God drove out before the face of our fathers to the days of David,

Dieser fand Gnade vor Gott und erbat es sich als Gunst, eine Wohnung für den Gott Jakobs zu finden.

El cual halló gracia delante de Dios, y pidió hallar tabernáculo para el Dios de Jacob.

Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

who found favor in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.

Aber erst Salomo hat ihm ein Haus erbaut.

Doch der Höchste wohnt nicht in einem Bau, der von Menschenhand hergestellt ist, wie der Prophet sagt:

Si bien el Altísimo no habita en templos hechos de mano; como el profeta dice:

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,

However, the Most High doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says,

›Der Himmel ist mein Thron und die Erde der Schemel meiner Füße. Was für ein Haus wäre es, das ihr mir bauen könntet?‹ – sagt der Herr – ›oder welches wäre die Stätte der Ruhe für mich?

El cielo es mi trono, y la tierra es el estrado de mis pies. ¿Qué casa me edificaréis? dice el Señor; ¿ó cuál es el lugar de mi reposo?
