1Esto es lo que Dios el Señor me mostró en una visión: Él estaba preparando un vasto enjambre de langostas para destruir toda la cosecha que le pertenecía al pueblo. La primera cosecha, que era para el rey, ya se la habían entregado a él.
2En la visión contemplaba cómo las langostas estaban acabando con todos los cultivos. Entonces dije: ―¡Señor mi Dios, te ruego que perdones a tu pueblo! ¡No les envíes esta plaga! Si tú te vuelves contra Israel, ¿qué esperanza queda? ¡Pues Israel es tan pequeño y débil y después de esta plaga les irá peor!
3Por eso el Señor cambió de idea, y me dijo: ―Muy bien, no haré esto.
4Luego Dios el Señor me mostró un gran incendio que él había preparado para castigar a los israelitas. Era tan violento que había ya secado las aguas y estaba secando toda la tierra.
5Entonces yo dije: ―¡Señor mi Dios, te ruego que no lo hagas! Si tú te vuelves contra Israel, ¿qué esperanza queda? ¡Pues Israel es tan pequeño y débil!
6Entonces el Señor cambió de idea, y me dijo: ―Muy bien, tampoco voy a hacer eso.
7Luego me mostró esto: El Señor estaba parado al lado de una pared y tenía en su mano una plomada, de las que usan los albañiles para comprobar si una pared está recta.
8Y el Señor me preguntó: ―Amós, ¿qué ves? Yo respondí: ―Una plomada de albañil. Entonces el Señor contestó: ―Yo probaré a mi pueblo con una plomada. Ya no me apartaré de mi propósito de castigarlo, le daré lo que se merece por sus actos de maldad.
9Derribaré los altares y los templos de los ídolos que se ha hecho Israel, y también mataré con espada a la familia del rey Jeroboán.
10Pero cuando Amasías, el sacerdote de Betel, oyó lo que Amós estaba anunciando, envió rápidamente un mensajero al rey Jeroboán con este mensaje: «Amós está incitando a los israelitas a que se rebelen contra usted. No podemos permitir que siga hablando con la gente del pueblo.
11Él dice que usted morirá en una batalla y que los israelitas serán llevados como esclavos a un país lejano».
12Luego Amasías le dijo a Amós: ―¡Sal de aquí, hombre de visiones! ¡Huye a la tierra de Judá y gánate la vida profetizando allá!
13¡No nos molestes aquí con tus visiones! Aquí en Betel está el principal templo del reino, y es donde el rey viene a adorar. ¡Así que no prediques más en esta ciudad!
14Pero Amós contestó: ―Yo no soy realmente uno de los profetas oficiales. Yo no desciendo de una familia de profetas. Soy tan sólo un pastor de ovejas y recolector de higos silvestres.
15Pero fue el Señor quien me sacó de mi ocupación de cuidar los rebaños y me dijo: “Anda y profetiza a mi pueblo Israel lo que yo te comunicaré”.
16Ahora, pues, escucha este mensaje para ti, de parte del Señor. Tú dices: “No profetices contra los israelitas, pues son los descendientes de Isaac”.
17Por eso, el Señor te dice: “Escucha lo que se te viene encima: Tu esposa se convertirá en una prostituta en esta ciudad, tus hijos e hijas serán muertos en una batalla y tu tierra será repartida entre tus enemigos. Tú mismo morirás en una tierra pagana, y el pueblo de Israel será llevado como esclavo a un país extraño, muy lejos de aquí”.

1ASÍ me ha mostrado el Señor Jehová: y he aquí, él criaba langostas al principio que comenzaba á crecer el heno tardío; y he aquí, era el heno tardío después de las siegas del rey.
2Y acaeció que como acabó de comer la hierba de la tierra, yo dije: Señor Jehová, perdona ahora; ¿quién levantará á Jacob? porque es pequeño.
3Arrepintióse Jehová de esto: No será, dijo Jehová.
4El Señor Jehová me mostró así: y he aquí, llamaba para juzgar por fuego el Señor Jehová; y consumió un gran abismo, y consumió una parte de la tierra.
5Y dije: Señor Jehová, cesa ahora; ¿quién levantará á Jacob? porque es pequeño.
6Arrepintióse Jehová de esto: No será esto tampoco, dijo el Señor Jehová.
7Enseñóme así: he aquí, el Señor estaba sobre un muro hecho á plomo, y en su mano una plomada de albañil.
8Jehová entonces me dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Y dije: Una plomada de albañil. Y el Señor dijo: He aquí, yo pongo plomada de albañil en medio de mi pueblo Israel: no le pasaré más:
9Y los altares de Isaac serán destruídos, y los santuarios de Israel serán asolados; y levantaréme con espada sobre la casa de Jeroboam.
10Entonces Amasías sacerdote de Beth-el envió á decir á Jeroboam, rey de Israel: Amós se ha conjurado contra ti en medio de la casa de Israel: la tierra no puede sufrir todas sus palabras.
11Porque así ha dicho Amós: Jeroboam morirá á cuchillo, é Israel pasará de su tierra en cautiverio.
12Y Amasías dijo á Amós: Vidente, vete, y huye á tierra de Judá, y come allá tu pan, y profetiza allí:
13Y no profetices más en Beth-el, porque es santuario del rey, y cabecera del reino.
14Entonces respondió Amós, y dijo á Amasías: No soy profeta, ni soy hijo de profeta, sino que soy boyero, y cogedor de cabrahigos:
15Y Jehová me tomó de tras el ganado, y díjome Jehová: Ve, y profetiza á mi pueblo Israel.
16Ahora pues, oye palabra de Jehová. Tú dices: No profetices contra Israel, ni hables contra la casa de Isaac:
17Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: Tu mujer fornicará en la ciudad, y tus hijos y tus hijas caerán á cuchillo, y tu tierra será partida por suertes; y tú morirás en tierra inmunda, é Israel será traspasado de su tierra.

1Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
2And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
3The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.
4Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.
5Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
6The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.
7Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
8And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
9And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
10Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
11For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
12Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
13But prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.
14Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
16Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.
17Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

2When they finished eating the grass of the land, then I said, “Lord GOD, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”
3The LORD relented concerning this. “It shall not be,” says the LORD.
4Thus the Lord GOD showed me: behold, the Lord GOD called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.
5Then I said, “Lord GOD, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”
6The LORD relented concerning this. “This also shall not be,” says the Lord GOD.
7Thus he showed me: behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.
8The LORD said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I will set a plumb line in the middle of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.
9The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”
10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.
11For Amos says, ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”
12Amaziah also said to Amos, “You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there,
13but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”
14Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son, but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs;
15and the LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’
16Now therefore listen to the LORD’s word: ‘You say, Don’t prophesy against Israel, and don’t preach against the house of Isaac.’
17Therefore the LORD says: ‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”
