1Esto es lo que me mostró el Señor: Justo cuando la cosecha de primavera comenzaba a crecer, él estaba preparando una plaga de langostas. (La cosecha de primavera comenzaba a crecer justo después que se cortaba el heno del rey).
2Y cuando las langostas terminaron de comerse todas las plantas verdes en los campos, yo le supliqué al Señor Dios: “¡Por favor, perdona a tu pueblo! ¿Cómo podrán sobrevivir los descendientes de Jacob? ¡Son tan débiles!”
3Entonces el Señor cambió de parecer. “¡No sucederá!” dijo el Señor.
4Esto fue lo que me mostró el Señor: Vi que el Señor llamaba a un juicio con fuego. El fuego quemó las profundidades del mar, y destruyó las los campos de cultivos.
5Yo le supliqué al Señor Dios: “¡Por favor, détente! ¿O cómo sobrevivirán los descendientes de Jacob? ¡Son tan débiles!”
6Entonces el Señor cambió de parecer. “Esto tampoco sucederá”, dijo el Señor.
7Esto fue lo que me mostró el Señor: Vi al Señor de pie junto a una muralla que había sido construida con una plomada. Él sostenía una plomada en su mano.
8Y el Señor me preguntó: “¿Qué ves, Amós?” Y yo respondí: “Una plomada”. Y el Señor dijo: “Yo pondré una plomada en medio de mi pueblo Israel. No pasaré más sus pecados por alto.
9Los lugares altos de los descendientes de Isaac serán derribados, y los lugares santos de Israel serán destruidos. Con espada en mano, me levantaré contra la casa de Jeroboam”.
10Entonces Amasías, el sacerdote de Betel, envió un mensaje a Jeroboam, rey de Israel, diciendo: “Amós está conspirando contra ustedes en el pueblo de Israel. ¡Lo que dice es insoportable!
11Porque dice que Jeroboam será asesinado con espada, y que el pueblo será deportado de su tierra”.
12Entonces Amasías dijo a Amós: “¡Vete de aquí, profeta! Corre a la tierra de Judá. Ve y gánate el pan profetizando allá.
13Pero no vuelvas a profetizar en Betel, porque aquí es donde viene a adorar el rey, es el Templo de la nación”.
14Pero Amós respondió: “No soy un profeta con preparación como tal, ni hijo de profeta. Yo era simplemente un pastor, y también cuidaba higueras.
15El Señor me tomó de mi camino mientras seguía a mi rebaño, y el Señor me dijo: ‘Ve y da mi mensaje a mi pueblo de Israel’”.
16Así que escuchen lo que el Señor les dice: Tú dices: “No vuelvas a profetizar contra Israel, y no prediques contra los descendientes de Isaac”.
17Pero esto es lo que el Señor dice: Tu esposa se convertirá en prostituta de la ciudad; tus hijos e hijas serán asesinados con espadas. Tu tierra será medida y dividida, y tú mismo morirás siendo extranjero tierra ajena. El pueblo de Israel será ciertamente exiliado de su tierra.

1ASÍ me ha mostrado el Señor Jehová: y he aquí, él criaba langostas al principio que comenzaba á crecer el heno tardío; y he aquí, era el heno tardío después de las siegas del rey.
2Y acaeció que como acabó de comer la hierba de la tierra, yo dije: Señor Jehová, perdona ahora; ¿quién levantará á Jacob? porque es pequeño.
3Arrepintióse Jehová de esto: No será, dijo Jehová.
4El Señor Jehová me mostró así: y he aquí, llamaba para juzgar por fuego el Señor Jehová; y consumió un gran abismo, y consumió una parte de la tierra.
5Y dije: Señor Jehová, cesa ahora; ¿quién levantará á Jacob? porque es pequeño.
6Arrepintióse Jehová de esto: No será esto tampoco, dijo el Señor Jehová.
7Enseñóme así: he aquí, el Señor estaba sobre un muro hecho á plomo, y en su mano una plomada de albañil.
8Jehová entonces me dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Y dije: Una plomada de albañil. Y el Señor dijo: He aquí, yo pongo plomada de albañil en medio de mi pueblo Israel: no le pasaré más:
9Y los altares de Isaac serán destruídos, y los santuarios de Israel serán asolados; y levantaréme con espada sobre la casa de Jeroboam.
10Entonces Amasías sacerdote de Beth-el envió á decir á Jeroboam, rey de Israel: Amós se ha conjurado contra ti en medio de la casa de Israel: la tierra no puede sufrir todas sus palabras.
11Porque así ha dicho Amós: Jeroboam morirá á cuchillo, é Israel pasará de su tierra en cautiverio.
12Y Amasías dijo á Amós: Vidente, vete, y huye á tierra de Judá, y come allá tu pan, y profetiza allí:
13Y no profetices más en Beth-el, porque es santuario del rey, y cabecera del reino.
14Entonces respondió Amós, y dijo á Amasías: No soy profeta, ni soy hijo de profeta, sino que soy boyero, y cogedor de cabrahigos:
15Y Jehová me tomó de tras el ganado, y díjome Jehová: Ve, y profetiza á mi pueblo Israel.
16Ahora pues, oye palabra de Jehová. Tú dices: No profetices contra Israel, ni hables contra la casa de Isaac:
17Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: Tu mujer fornicará en la ciudad, y tus hijos y tus hijas caerán á cuchillo, y tu tierra será partida por suertes; y tú morirás en tierra inmunda, é Israel será traspasado de su tierra.

1Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
2And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
3The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.
4Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.
5Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
6The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.
7Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
8And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
9And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
10Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
11For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
12Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
13But prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.
14Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
16Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.
17Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
World English Bible
1Thus the Lord GOD showed me: behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and behold, it was the latter growth after the king’s harvest.
2When they finished eating the grass of the land, then I said, “Lord GOD, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”
3The LORD relented concerning this. “It shall not be,” says the LORD.
4Thus the Lord GOD showed me: behold, the Lord GOD called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.
5Then I said, “Lord GOD, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”
6The LORD relented concerning this. “This also shall not be,” says the Lord GOD.
7Thus he showed me: behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.
8The LORD said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I will set a plumb line in the middle of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.
9The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”
10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.
11For Amos says, ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”
12Amaziah also said to Amos, “You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there,
13but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”
14Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son, but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs;
15and the LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’
16Now therefore listen to the LORD’s word: ‘You say, Don’t prophesy against Israel, and don’t preach against the house of Isaac.’
17Therefore the LORD says: ‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”
