1Quiero que sepan cuánto he batallado por ustedes, por la iglesia de Laodicea y por aquellos a quienes nunca he tenido el gusto de conocer personalmente.
2Mi lucha es para que se animen, que estén unidos estrechamente por las fuertes ataduras del amor, y que alcancen la rica experiencia de una genuina certidumbre y clara comprensión, porque el plan secreto de Dios, que ya por fin ha sido revelado, es Cristo mismo.
3En él están escondidos todos los tesoros de la sabiduría y del conocimiento.
4Digo esto porque temo que alguien pueda engañarlos con palabras bonitas,
5y porque, a pesar de que me encuentro lejos de ustedes, mi corazón está a su lado, feliz de ver que todo marcha bien entre ustedes y que poseen una fe robusta en Cristo.
6Ahora bien, de la misma manera que recibieron a Cristo Jesús como Señor, deben comportarse como le agrada a él;
7es decir, enraizados en él y que sea él quien les haga crecer. Manténganse convencidos de la verdad que les enseñaron y llenos de acción de gracias al Señor.
8No dejen que nadie los engañe con filosofías erradas y huecas, basadas en tradiciones humanas y en los poderes que dominan este mundo, y no en la enseñanza de Cristo.
9En Cristo habita toda la plenitud de Dios encarnada en un cuerpo humano,
10y ustedes, al estar unidos a él, están llenos de esa plenitud. Además, él es la cabeza y tiene autoridad sobre cualquier principado o potestad.
11Por estar unidos a Cristo, él los libertó de su naturaleza pecaminosa, no por medio de la circuncisión que se hace en el cuerpo, sino por medio de la circuncisión que hace Cristo.
12Con él ustedes fueron sepultados en el bautismo, y en su resurrección resucitaron ustedes con él, mediante la fe en el poder de Dios que lo resucitó.
13De hecho, ustedes estaban muertos a causa de sus pecados y no se habían despojado de su naturaleza pecaminosa; pero Dios nos vivificó con Cristo y nos perdonó los pecados.
14Él eliminó la prueba acusatoria que había contra ustedes, es decir, los mandamientos de la ley. Esa quedó anulada cuando la clavó en la cruz.
15Y así despojó a los seres espirituales que tienen poder y autoridad, y, por medio de Cristo, los humilló públicamente y los exhibió en su desfile triunfal.
16Que nadie, pues, los critique a ustedes por cuestiones de comidas o bebidas, ni porque no celebren sus festividades ni sus ceremonias de luna nueva ni sus sábados.
17Estas eran sólo como sombras del que había de venir, es decir, Cristo.
18No dejen ustedes que les quiten su premio quienes fingen ser humildes y adoran a los ángeles. Estos individuos dicen haber visto visiones y se llenan de orgullo por sus pensamientos humanos.
19Sin embargo, no están conectados a Cristo, la cabeza, a la cual nosotros, que formamos su cuerpo, sí estamos unidos. Y lo estamos por medio de fuertes junturas y ligamentos, con lo cual crecemos a medida que Dios nos nutre.
20Si ustedes murieron con Cristo y ya no están esclavizados a los poderes que dominan el mundo, ¿por qué se someten, como si fueran todavía del mundo, a reglas
21tales como: «no toques eso, no comas aquello, no lo tomes en tus manos»?
22Esas reglas son puramente humanas, que con el tiempo van perdiendo valor.
23Podrán parecer muy sabias tales reglas, ya que para obedecerlas hay que ser devotos de veras, y porque son humillantes y duras para el cuerpo, pero de nada sirven en lo que a dominar los malos pensamientos y deseos se refiere.

1PORQUE quiero que sepáis cuán gran solicitud tengo por vosotros, y por los que están en Laodicea, y por todos los que nunca vieron mi rostro en carne;
2Para que sean confortados sus corazones, unidos en amor, y en todas riquezas de cumplido entendimiento para conocer el misterio de Dios, y del Padre, y de Cristo;
3En el cual están escondidos todos los tesoros de sabiduría y conocimiento.
4Y esto digo, para que nadie os engañe con palabras persuasivas.
5Porque aunque estoy ausente con el cuerpo, no obstante con el espíritu estoy con vosotros, gozándome y mirando vuestro concierto, y la firmeza de vuestra fe en Cristo.
6Por tanto, de la manera que habéis recibido al Señor Jesucristo, andad en él:
7Arraigados y sobreedificados en él, y confirmados en la fe, así como habéis aprendido, creciendo en ella con hacimiento de gracias.
8Mirad que ninguno os engañe por filosofías y vanas sutilezas, según las tradiciones de los hombres, conforme á los elementos del mundo, y no según Cristo:
9Porque en él habita toda la plenitud de la divinidad corporalmente:
10Y en él estáis cumplidos, el cual es la cabeza de todo principado y potestad:
11En el cual también sois circuncidados de circuncisión no hecha con manos, con el despojamiento del cuerpo de los pecados de la carne, en la circuncisión de Cristo;
12Sepultados juntamente con él en el bautismo, en el cual también resucitasteis con él, por la fe de la operación de Dios que le levantó de los muertos.
13Y á vosotros, estando muertos en pecados y en la incircuncisión de vuestra carne, os vivificó juntamente con él, perdonándoos todos los pecados,
14Rayendo la cédula de los ritos que nos era contraria, que era contra nosotros, quitándola de en medio y enclavándola en la cruz;
15Y despojando los principados y las potestades, sacólos á la vergüenza en público, triunfando de ellos en sí mismo.
16Por tanto, nadie os juzgue en comida, ó en bebida, ó en parte de día de fiesta, ó de nueva luna, ó de sábados:
17Lo cual es la sombra de lo por venir; mas el cuerpo es de Cristo.
18Nadie os prive de vuestro premio, afectando humildad y culto á los ángeles, metiéndose en lo que no ha visto, vanamente hinchado en el sentido de su propia carne,
19Y no teniendo la cabeza, de la cual todo el cuerpo, alimentado y conjunto por las ligaduras y conjunturas, crece en aumento de Dios.
20Pues si sois muertos con Cristo cuanto á los rudimentos del mundo, ¿por qué como si vivieseis al mundo, os sometéis á ordenanzas,
21Tales como, No manejes, ni gustes, ni aun toques,
22(Las cuales cosas son todas para destrucción en el uso mismo), en conformidad á mandamientos y doctrinas de hombres?
23Tales cosas tienen á la verdad cierta reputación de sabiduría en culto voluntario, y humildad, y en duro trato del cuerpo; no en alguna honra para el saciar de la carne.

1For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
5For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
20Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
21(Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
World English Bible
1For I desire to have you know how greatly I struggle for you and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
3in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.
4Now I say this that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech.
5For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in the spirit, rejoicing and seeing your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
6As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him,
7rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving.
8Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elemental spirits of the world, and not after Christ.
9For in him all the fullness of the Deity dwells bodily,
10and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power.
11In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ,
12having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.
13You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
14wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us. He has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.
15Having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16Let no one therefore judge you in eating or drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day,
17which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s.
18Let no one rob you of your prize by self-abasement and worshiping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God’s growth.
20If you died with Christ from the elemental spirits of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances,
21“Don’t handle, nor taste, nor touch”
22(all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men?
23These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, humility, and severity to the body, but aren’t of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
