Quiero que sepan cuánto he batallado por ustedes, por la iglesia de Laodicea y por aquellos a quienes nunca he tenido el gusto de conocer personalmente.

Mi lucha es para que se animen, que estén unidos estrechamente por las fuertes ataduras del amor, y que alcancen la rica experiencia de una genuina certidumbre y clara comprensión, porque el plan secreto de Dios, que ya por fin ha sido revelado, es Cristo mismo.
Para que sean confortados sus corazones, unidos en amor, y en todas riquezas de cumplido entendimiento para conocer el misterio de Dios, y del Padre, y de Cristo;
That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

y porque, a pesar de que me encuentro lejos de ustedes, mi corazón está a su lado, feliz de ver que todo marcha bien entre ustedes y que poseen una fe robusta en Cristo.

Arraigados y sobreedificados en él, y confirmados en la fe, así como habéis aprendido, creciendo en ella con hacimiento de gracias.

No dejen que nadie los engañe con filosofías erradas y huecas, basadas en tradiciones humanas y en los poderes que dominan este mundo, y no en la enseñanza de Cristo.
Mirad que ninguno os engañe por filosofías y vanas sutilezas, según las tradiciones de los hombres, conforme á los elementos del mundo, y no según Cristo:
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elemental spirits of the world, and not after Christ.
En Cristo habita toda la plenitud de Dios encarnada en un cuerpo humano,
Porque en él habita toda la plenitud de la divinidad corporalmente:
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

y ustedes, al estar unidos a él, están llenos de esa plenitud. Además, él es la cabeza y tiene autoridad sobre cualquier principado o potestad.
Y en él estáis cumplidos, el cual es la cabeza de todo principado y potestad:

and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power.
Por estar unidos a Cristo, él los libertó de su naturaleza pecaminosa, no por medio de la circuncisión que se hace en el cuerpo, sino por medio de la circuncisión que hace Cristo.
En el cual también sois circuncidados de circuncisión no hecha con manos, con el despojamiento del cuerpo de los pecados de la carne, en la circuncisión de Cristo;

Él eliminó la prueba acusatoria que había contra ustedes, es decir, los mandamientos de la ley. Esa quedó anulada cuando la clavó en la cruz.

Estas eran sólo como sombras del que había de venir, es decir, Cristo.

No dejen ustedes que les quiten su premio quienes fingen ser humildes y adoran a los ángeles. Estos individuos dicen haber visto visiones y se llenan de orgullo por sus pensamientos humanos.
Nadie os prive de vuestro premio, afectando humildad y culto á los ángeles, metiéndose en lo que no ha visto, vanamente hinchado en el sentido de su propia carne,
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Let no one rob you of your prize by self-abasement and worshiping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Sin embargo, no están conectados a Cristo, la cabeza, a la cual nosotros, que formamos su cuerpo, sí estamos unidos. Y lo estamos por medio de fuertes junturas y ligamentos, con lo cual crecemos a medida que Dios nos nutre.
Y no teniendo la cabeza, de la cual todo el cuerpo, alimentado y conjunto por las ligaduras y conjunturas, crece en aumento de Dios.

Pues si sois muertos con Cristo cuanto á los rudimentos del mundo, ¿por qué como si vivieseis al mundo, os sometéis á ordenanzas,
Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
If you died with Christ from the elemental spirits of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances,
tales como: «no toques eso, no comas aquello, no lo tomes en tus manos»?
Tales como, No manejes, ni gustes, ni aun toques,
(Touch not; taste not; handle not;
“Don’t handle, nor taste, nor touch”
Esas reglas son puramente humanas, que con el tiempo van perdiendo valor.
(Las cuales cosas son todas para destrucción en el uso mismo), en conformidad á mandamientos y doctrinas de hombres?
Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
(all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men?
Podrán parecer muy sabias tales reglas, ya que para obedecerlas hay que ser devotos de veras, y porque son humillantes y duras para el cuerpo, pero de nada sirven en lo que a dominar los malos pensamientos y deseos se refiere.
Tales cosas tienen á la verdad cierta reputación de sabiduría en culto voluntario, y humildad, y en duro trato del cuerpo; no en alguna honra para el saciar de la carne.
Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, humility, and severity to the body, but aren’t of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
