Daniel 1

No terceiro ano do reinado de Jeoaquim em Judá, Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, atacou Jerusalém com o seu grande exército e cercou a cidade.

EN el año tercero del reinado de Joacim rey de Judá, vino Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia á Jerusalem, y cercóla.

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

O Senhor deu a Nabucodonosor uma grande vitória sobre Jeoaquim, rei de Judá e, quando ele voltou para a Babilônia, levou alguns dos vasos sagrados que havia no templo de Deus e os colocou na casa do seu deus, na terra de Sinear.

Y el Señor entregó en sus manos á Joacim rey de Judá, y parte de los vasos de la casa de Dios, y trájolos á tierra de Sinar, á la casa de su dios: y metió los vasos en la casa del tesoro de su dios.

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

Lá, ele mandou Aspenaz, chefe dos oficiais do palácio real, escolher alguns rapazes entre os judeus que haviam sido presos em Jerusalém — rapazes da família real e das famílias ricas e importantes de Judá.

Y dijo el rey á Aspenaz, príncipe de sus eunucos, que trajese de los hijos de Israel, del linaje real de los príncipes,

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;

The king spoke to Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the children of Israel, even of the royal offspring and of the nobles:

Eles deveriam aprender a língua, os costumes e a ciência dos caldeus. “Escolha rapazes fortes, sem defeitos físicos, com boa saúde e de boa aparência”, disse o rei; “eles devem ter boa instrução, boa cultura geral e ser capacitados para viverem no palácio real”.

Muchachos en quienes no hubiese tacha alguna, y de buen parecer, y enseñados en toda sabiduría, y sabios en ciencia, y de buen entendimiento, é idóneos para estar en el palacio del rey; y que les enseñase las letras y la lengua de los Caldeos.

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

O próprio rei escolheu a comida que devia ser dada aos jovens — tudo do bom e do melhor, da própria despensa do rei, vinhos e carnes. Eles deveriam se alimentar dessa comida por três anos. Quando terminasse o treinamento, passariam a servir o rei.

Y señalóles el rey ración para cada día de la ración de la comida del rey, y del vino de su beber: que los criase tres años, para que al fin de ellos estuviesen delante del rey.

And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

Entre os escolhidos estavam Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias, todos eles da tribo de Judá.

Y fueron entre ellos, de los hijos de Judá, Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías:

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

Mas Aspenaz, o chefe do pessoal do palácio, deu aos quatro rapazes outros nomes: o nome de Daniel passou a ser Beltessazar; o de Hananias, Sadraque; o de Misael, Mesaque; o de Azarias, Abede-Nego.

A los cuales el príncipe de los eunucos puso nombres: y puso á Daniel, Beltsasar; y á Ananías, Sadrach; y á Misael, Mesach; y á Azarías, Abed-nego.

Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.

The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

Daniel decidiu firmemente que nunca iria comer a comida ou beber os vinhos que o rei tinha dado a eles, porque eram coisas proibidas para os judeus. Ele pediu ao chefe dos oficiais permissão para comer outros alimentos.

Y Daniel propuso en su corazón de no contaminarse en la ración de la comida del rey, ni en el vino de su beber: pidió por tanto al príncipe de los eunucos de no contaminarse.

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Sem Daniel saber, Deus tinha colocado no coração do supervisor uma simpatia e bondade por ele.

(Y puso Dios á Daniel en gracia y en buena voluntad con el príncipe de los eunucos.)

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

Now God made Daniel find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.

Apesar disso, Aspenaz ficou alarmado com a sugestão e disse a Daniel: “Eu tenho medo do rei! Ele já determinou o que vocês devem comer. Se o rei os vir magros e fracos em comparação com os outros rapazes da sua idade, vai mandar cortar a minha cabeça porque não obedeci às ordens que ele me deu!”

Y dijo el príncipe de los eunucos á Daniel: Tengo temor de mi señor el rey, que señaló vuestra comida y vuestra bebida; pues luego que él habrá visto vuestros rostros más tristes que los de los muchachos que son semejantes á vosotros, condenaréis para con el rey mi cabeza.

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. For why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? Then you would endanger my head with the king.”

Daniel procurou o mordomo que o chefe dos oficiais tinha indicado para cuidar dele e de Hananias, de Misael e Azarias, e disse:

Entonces dijo Daniel á Melsar, que estaba puesto por el príncipe de los eunucos sobre Daniel, Ananías, Misael, y Azarías:

Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

Then Daniel said to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

“Peço que o senhor faça uma experiência com os seus servos durante dez dias: Não nos dê nada além de legumes para comer e água para beber.

Prueba, te ruego, tus siervos diez días, y dennos legumbres á comer, y agua á beber.

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

“Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.

Quando terminarem os dez dias, compare a nossa aparência com a dos outros rapazes que comem a comida fina dada pelo rei, e decida se deveremos continuar com a nossa dieta de legumes e água ou não”.

Parezcan luego delante de ti nuestros rostros, y los rostros de los muchachos que comen de la ración de la comida del rey; y según que vieres, harás con tus siervos.

Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

Then let our faces be examined before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s delicacies; and as you see, deal with your servants.”

O mordomo acabou concordando com a sugestão deles por dez dias.

Consintió pues con ellos en esto, y probó con ellos diez días.

So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.

Dez dias depois, Daniel e seus três amigos estavam com melhor aparência, mais fortes e saudáveis que os rapazes que haviam comido das comidas finas dadas pelo rei!

Y al cabo de los diez días pareció el rostro de ellos mejor y más nutrido de carne, que los otros muchachos que comían de la ración de la comida del rey.

And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.

At the end of ten days, their faces appeared fairer and they were fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate of the king’s delicacies.

Depois disso, o mordomo só lhes deu legumes e água, deixando de lado a comida especial e o vinho dado pelo rei.

Así fué que Melsar tomaba la ración de la comida de ellos, y el vino de su beber, y dábales legumbres.

Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

So the steward took away their delicacies and the wine that they were given to drink, and gave them vegetables.

Deus deu aos quatro rapazes sabedoria e inteligência para aprenderem toda a cultura e a ciência de sua época. Além disso, Deus deu a Daniel uma capacidade especial para interpretar os significados dos sonhos e visões.

Y á estos cuatro muchachos dióles Dios conocimiento é inteligencia en todas letras y ciencia: mas Daniel tuvo entendimiento en toda visión y sueños.

As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Quando os três anos de treinamento terminaram, o chefe dos empregados levou todos os rapazes diante do rei Nabucodonosor, conforme as ordens que tinha recebido.

Pasados pues los días al fin de los cuales había dicho el rey que los trajesen, el príncipe de los eunucos los trajo delante de Nabucodonosor.

Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

O rei conversou longamente com cada um deles, mas nenhum dos rapazes o impressionou tanto quanto Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias. Por isso, eles passaram a servir o rei.

Y el rey habló con ellos, y no fué hallado entre todos ellos otro como Daniel, Ananías, Misael, y Azarías: y así estuvieron delante del rey.

And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

Em todos os assuntos que exigiam conhecimento e capacidade de julgar, o rei descobriu que os conselhos daqueles quatro rapazes eram melhores que os dos magos e astrólogos do seu reino.

Y en todo negocio de sabiduría é inteligencia que el rey les demandó, hallólos diez veces mejores que todos los magos y astrólogos que había en todo su reino.

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.

Daniel continuou no palácio real até o primeiro ano do reinado de Ciro.

Y fué Daniel hasta el año primero del rey Ciro.

And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
