Daniel 1

En el año tercero del reinado de Joakim, rey de Judá, vino Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, contra Jerusalén , y la sitió.

EN el año tercero del reinado de Joacim rey de Judá, vino Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia á Jerusalem, y cercóla.

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

Y el Señor entregó en sus manos a Joakim, rey de Judá, y una parte de los vasos del templo de Dios, y los trasladó a tierra de Senaar a la casa, o templo, de su dios, y los metió en la casa del tesoro de su dios.

Y el Señor entregó en sus manos á Joacim rey de Judá, y parte de los vasos de la casa de Dios, y trájolos á tierra de Sinar, á la casa de su dios: y metió los vasos en la casa del tesoro de su dios.

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

Y dijo el rey a Asfenez, jefe de los eunucos, que de los hijos de Israel, y de la estirpe de sus reyes y grandes, le destinase

Y dijo el rey á Aspenaz, príncipe de sus eunucos, que trajese de los hijos de Israel, del linaje real de los príncipes,

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;

The king spoke to Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the children of Israel, even of the royal offspring and of the nobles:

algunos niños que no tuviesen ningún defecto, de bella presencia y completamente instruidos, adornados con conocimientos científicos, y bien educados, y dignos, en fin, de estar en el palacio del rey, y que les enseñase la lengua y las letras o ciencias de los caldeos.

Muchachos en quienes no hubiese tacha alguna, y de buen parecer, y enseñados en toda sabiduría, y sabios en ciencia, y de buen entendimiento, é idóneos para estar en el palacio del rey; y que les enseñase las letras y la lengua de los Caldeos.

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

youths in whom was no defect, but well-favored, skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding science, and who had the ability to stand in the king’s palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.

Y dispuso el rey que todos los días se les diese de comer de lo mismo que él comía y del vino mismo que él bebía; a fin de que mantenidos así por espacio de tres años, sirviesen después en la presencia del rey.

Y señalóles el rey ración para cada día de la ración de la comida del rey, y del vino de su beber: que los criase tres años, para que al fin de ellos estuviesen delante del rey.

And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

Entre éstos, pues, se hallaron de los hijos de Judá, Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías.

Y fueron entre ellos, de los hijos de Judá, Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías:

Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

Now among these of the children of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

Y el prefecto de los eunucos les puso los nombres siguientes: a Daniel el de Baltasar; a Ananías el de Sidrac; a Misael el de Misac, y a Azarías el de Abdénago.

A los cuales el príncipe de los eunucos puso nombres: y puso á Daniel, Beltsasar; y á Ananías, Sadrach; y á Misael, Mesach; y á Azarías, Abed-nego.

Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.

The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

Daniel resolvió en su corazón no contaminarse con comer de la vianda de la mesa del rey, ni con beber del vino que el rey bebía; y rogó al prefecto de los eunucos que le permitiese no contaminarse.

Y Daniel propuso en su corazón de no contaminarse en la ración de la comida del rey, ni en el vino de su beber: pidió por tanto al príncipe de los eunucos de no contaminarse.

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Y Dios hizo que Daniel hallase gracia y benevolencia ante el jefe de los eunucos.

(Y puso Dios á Daniel en gracia y en buena voluntad con el príncipe de los eunucos.)

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

Now God made Daniel find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.

Y dijo el prefecto de los eunucos a Daniel: Temo yo del rey mi señor, el cual os ha señalado la comida y bebida, que si él llegare a ver vuestras caras más flacas que las de los otros jóvenes vuestros compañeros, seréis causa de que el rey me condene a muerte.

Y dijo el príncipe de los eunucos á Daniel: Tengo temor de mi señor el rey, que señaló vuestra comida y vuestra bebida; pues luego que él habrá visto vuestros rostros más tristes que los de los muchachos que son semejantes á vosotros, condenaréis para con el rey mi cabeza.

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. For why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? Then you would endanger my head with the king.”

Dijo entonces Daniel a Malasar, al cual el prefecto de los eunucos había encargado el cuidado de Daniel, de Ananías, de Misael y de Azarías:

Entonces dijo Daniel á Melsar, que estaba puesto por el príncipe de los eunucos sobre Daniel, Ananías, Misael, y Azarías:

Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

Then Daniel said to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

Te suplico que hagas la prueba con nosotros tus siervos por espacio de diez días; y se nos den legumbres para comer y agua para beber;

Prueba, te ruego, tus siervos diez días, y dennos legumbres á comer, y agua á beber.

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.

“Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.

y observa nuestras caras y las caras de los jóvenes que comen de la vianda del rey; y según vieres, harás con tus siervos.

Parezcan luego delante de ti nuestros rostros, y los rostros de los muchachos que comen de la ración de la comida del rey; y según que vieres, harás con tus siervos.

Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.

Then let our faces be examined before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s delicacies; and as you see, deal with your servants.”

Oída por él semejante propuesta, hizo con ellos la prueba por diez días.

Consintió pues con ellos en esto, y probó con ellos diez días.

So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.

Y al cabo de los diez días aparecieron de mejor color sus rostros, y más llenos que los de todos los jóvenes que comían de las viandas del rey.

Y al cabo de los diez días pareció el rostro de ellos mejor y más nutrido de carne, que los otros muchachos que comían de la ración de la comida del rey.

And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.

At the end of ten days, their faces appeared fairer and they were fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate of the king’s delicacies.

Malasar, pues, tomaba para sí las viandas, y el vino que ellos habían de beber; y les daba a comer legumbres.

Así fué que Melsar tomaba la ración de la comida de ellos, y el vino de su beber, y dábales legumbres.

Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

So the steward took away their delicacies and the wine that they were given to drink, and gave them vegetables.

Y le dio Dios a estos jóvenes ciencia y pericia en todos los escritos y conocimientos de los caldeos, a Daniel la inteligencia de todas las visiones y sueños.

Y á estos cuatro muchachos dióles Dios conocimiento é inteligencia en todas letras y ciencia: mas Daniel tuvo entendimiento en toda visión y sueños.

As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Cumplido, pues, el tiempo, después del cual había mandado el rey que le fuesen presentados los jóvenes, les condujo el prefecto de los eunucos a la presencia de Nabucodonosor.

Pasados pues los días al fin de los cuales había dicho el rey que los trajesen, el príncipe de los eunucos los trajo delante de Nabucodonosor.

Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

At the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

Y habiéndolos el rey examinado, no se halló entre todos ellos quien igualase a Daniel, a Ananías, a Misael y a Azarías; y se quedaron para el servicio del rey.

Y el rey habló con ellos, y no fué hallado entre todos ellos otro como Daniel, Ananías, Misael, y Azarías: y así estuvieron delante del rey.

And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

Y en cualquier especie de conocimientos y ciencias sobre que los examinó el rey, halló que eran diez veces más sabios que cuantos adivinos y magos había en todo su reino.

Y en todo negocio de sabiduría é inteligencia que el rey les demandó, hallólos diez veces mejores que todos los magos y astrólogos que había en todo su reino.

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.

Y permaneció Daniel en el servicio del rey hasta el año primero del rey Ciro.

Y fué Daniel hasta el año primero del rey Ciro.

And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
