En el año segundo de su reinado tuvo Nabucodonosor un sueño que dejó consternado su espíritu, y le huyó dicho sueño de la memoria.
Y EN el segundo año del reinado de Nabucodonosor, soñó Nabucodonosor sueños, y perturbóse su espíritu, y su sueño se huyó de él.
And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.

Y mandó el rey convocar los adivinos y magos, y los hechiceros y los caldeos o astrólogos, para que mostrasen al rey los sueños que había tenido; y llegados que fueron se presentaron delante del rey.

Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

Replicó el rey, y dijo a los caldeos: Se me olvidó lo que era; y si vosotros no me exponéis el sueño, y no me dais su interpretación, pereceréis vosotros y serán confiscadas vuestras casas.
Respondió el rey y dijo á los Caldeos: El negocio se me fué: si no me mostráis el sueño y su declaración, seréis hechos cuartos, y vuestras casas serán puestas por muladares.
The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

Mas si expusiereis el sueño y lo que significa, recibiréis de mí premios y dones, y grandes honores; exponedme, pues, el sueño y su significado.

Le respondieron otra vez ellos, diciendo: Refiera el rey su sueño a sus siervos, y le declararemos su significado.

A esto repuso el rey, y dijo: Conozco bien que vosotros queréis ganar tiempo, porque sabéis que se me fue de la memoria la cosa que soñé.

Por lo cual si no me decís aquello que he soñado, yo no pensaré otra cosa de vosotros, sino que forjaréis también una interpretación falaz y llena de engaño para entretenerme con palabras hasta que vaya pasando el tiempo. Por tanto, decidme el sueño mío a fin de que conozca que también la interpretación que de él daréis será verdadera.
Si no me mostráis el sueño, una sola sentencia será de vosotros. Ciertamente preparáis respuesta mentirosa y perversa que decir delante de mí, entre tanto que se muda el tiempo: por tanto, decidme el sueño, para que yo entienda que me podéis mostrar su declaración.

A esto dijeron los caldeos, respondiendo al rey: No hay hombre sobre la tierra, ¡oh rey!, que pueda cumplir tu mandato; ni hay rey alguno grande y poderoso que demande tal cosa a ningún adivino, mago o caldeo,
Los Caldeos respondieron delante del rey, y dijeron: No hay hombre sobre la tierra que pueda declarar el negocio del rey: demás de esto, ningún rey, príncipe, ni señor, preguntó cosa semejante á ningún mago, ni astrólogo, ni Caldeo.
The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

Al oír esto el rey, lleno de furor y grandísimo enojo, mandó que se quitara la vida a todos los sabios de Babilonia.

And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

Entonces Daniel fue a preguntar a Arioc, capitán de las tropas del rey, el cual tenía la comisión de hacer morir a los sabios de Babilonia, qué venía a ser aquella ley y aquella sentencia.
Entonces Daniel habló avisada y prudentemente á Arioch, capitán de los de la guarda del rey, que había salido para matar los sabios de Babilonia.
Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:

Y al dicho Arioc, que había recibido la comisión del rey, le preguntó por qué causa había pronunciado el rey tan cruel sentencia. Y habiendo Arioc declarado a Daniel lo que había sobre eso,
Habló y dijo á Arioch capitán del rey: ¿Qué es la causa que este mandamiento se publica de parte del rey tan apresuradamente? Entonces Arioch declaró el negocio á Daniel.
He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

entró Daniel al rey y le suplicó que le concediese tiempo para dar sobre la solución.

And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

El revela las cosas profundas y recónditas, y conoce las que se hallan en medio de tinieblas, pues la luz está con él.

A ti, ¡oh Dios de nuestros padres!, te tributo las gracias, y rindo alabanzas, porque me has concedido sabiduría y fortaleza, y me has hecho conocer ahora lo que te hemos pedido; puesto que nos has revelado lo que el rey pregunta.

Después de esto se fue Daniel a encontrar a Arioc, a quien había dado el rey el encargo de hacer morir a los sabios de Babilonia; y le habló de esta manera: No quites la vida a los sabios de Babilonia: acompáñame a la presencia del rey y yo le expondré la solución.
Después de esto Daniel entró á Arioch, al cual el rey había puesto para matar á los sabios de Babilonia; fué, y díjole así: No mates á los sabios de Babilonia: llévame delante del rey, que yo mostraré al rey la declaración.
Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.
Therefore Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said this to him: “Don’t destroy the wise men of Babylon. Bring me in before the king, and I will show to the king the interpretation.”
Entonces Arioc condujo luego a Daniel a la presencia del rey, a quien dijo: He hallado un hombre entre los hijos de Judá cautivos, el cual dará al rey la explicación que desea.
Entonces Arioch llevó prestamente á Daniel delante del rey, y díjole así: Un varón de los trasportados de Judá he hallado, el cual declarará al rey la interpretación.
Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.

Respondió el rey, y dijo a Daniel, a quien se daba el nombre de Baltasar: ¿Crees tú realmente que podrás decirme el sueño que tuve, y darme su interpretación?

A lo que respondió Daniel al rey, diciendo: El secreto que el rey desea descubrir, no se lo pueden declarar al rey los sabios, ni los magos, ni los adivinos, ni los astrólogos.
Daniel respondió delante del rey, y dijo: El misterio que el rey demanda, ni sabios, ni astrólogos, ni magos, ni adivinos lo pueden enseñar al rey.
Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;

Pero hay un Dios en el cielo que revela los misterios, y éste te ha mostrado, ¡oh rey Nabucodonosor!, las cosas que sucederán en los últimos tiempos. Tu sueño y las visiones que ha tenido tu cabeza en la cama, son las siguientes:
Mas hay un Dios en los cielos, el cual revela los misterios, y él ha hecho saber al rey Nabucodonosor lo que ha de acontecer á cabo de días. Tu sueño, y las visiones de tu cabeza sobre tu cama, es esto:
But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head on your bed are these:
Tú, ¡oh rey!, estando en tu cama, te pusiste a pensar en lo que sucedería en los tiempos venideros, y aquel que revela los misterios te hizo ver lo que ha de venir.
Tú, oh rey, en tu cama subieron tus pensamientos por saber lo que había de ser en lo por venir; y el que revela los misterios te mostró lo que ha de ser.
As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
“As for you, O king, your thoughts came on your bed, what should happen hereafter; and he who reveals secrets has made known to you what will happen.
A mí también se me ha revelado ese secreto no por una sabiduría que en mí haya más que en cualquier otro hombre mortal, sino a fin de que el rey tuviese una clara interpretación, y para que reconocieses, ¡oh rey!, los pensamientos de tu espíritu.
Y á mí ha sido revelado este misterio, no por sabiduría que en mí haya más que en todos los vivientes, sino para que yo notifique al rey la declaración, y que entendieses los pensamientos de tu corazón.
But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

Pero la piedra que había herido a la estatua se hizo una gran montaña, y llenó toda la tierra.
Entonces fué también desmenuzado el hierro, el barro cocido, el metal, la plata y el oro, y se tornaron como tamo de las eras del verano: y levantólos el viento, y nunca más se les halló lugar. Mas la piedra que hirió á la imagen, fué hecha un gran monte, que hinchió toda la tierra.
Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

y ha sujetado a tu poder los lugares todos en que habitan los hijos de los hombres, como también las bestias del campo y las aves del aire; todas las cosas ha puesto bajo tu dominio: Tú, pues, eres la cabeza de oro.

And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

Y después de ti se levantará otro reino menor que el tuyo, que será de plata; y después otro tecer reino, que será de cobre o bronce, el cual mandará a toda la tierra.

And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

Y el cuarto reino será como el hierro. Al modo que el hierro desmenuza y doma todas las cosas, así este reino destrozará y desmenuzará a todos los demás.
Y el reino cuarto será fuerte como hierro; y como el hierro desmenuza y doma todas las cosas, y como el hierro que quebranta todas estas cosas, desmenuzará y quebrantará.
And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

Mas en cuanto a lo que has visto que una parte de los pies y de los dedos era de barro de alfarero y la otra de hierro, sepas que el reino, sin embargo, que tendrá origen de vena de hierro será dividido, conforme lo que viste del hierro mezclado con el barro cocido.

And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

Y al modo que has visto el hierro mezclado con el barro cocido, así se unirán por medio de parentelas; mas no formarán un cuerpo el uno con el otro, así como el hierro no puede ligarse con el barro.
Cuanto á aquello que viste, el hierro mezclado con tiesto de barro, mezclaránse con simiente humana, mas no se pegarán el uno con el otro, como el hierro no se mistura con el tiesto.
And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

Pero en el tiempo de aquellos reinos, el Dios del cielo levantará un reino que nunca jamás será destruido; y este reino no pasará a otra nación, sino que quebrantará y aniquilará todos estos reinos, y él subsistirá eternamente.
Y en los días de estos reyes, levantará el Dios del cielo un reino que nunca jamás se corromperá: y no será dejado á otro pueblo este reino; el cual desmenuzará y consumirá todos estos reinos, y él permanecerá para siempre.
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Conforme viste tú que la piedra desprendida del monte sin concurso de hombre alguno desmenuzó el barro, y el hierro, y el cobre, y la plata y el oro, y el gran Dios ha mostrado al rey las cosas futuras. Y ese sueño es verdadero, y es fiel su interpretación.

Entonces el rey Nabucodonosor se postró en tierra sobre su rostro y adoró a Daniel, y mandó que se le hiciesen sacrificios de víctimas, y le quemasen incienso.

The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

Entonces el rey ensalzó a Daniel colmándole de honores, y le hizo muchos y magníficos regalos, y le constituyó príncipe de todas las provincias de Babilonia, y presidente de los magistrados y de todos los sabios de Babilonia.
