In the first year of Belshazzar the king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream and visions of his head as he lay on his bed; then he wrote down the dream and the ⌞summary⌟ of the words ⌞as follows⌟:
EN el primer año de Belsasar rey de Babilonia, vió Daniel un sueño y visiones de su cabeza en su cama: luego escribió el sueño, y notó la suma de los negocios.
In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.
In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed. Then he wrote the dream and told the sum of the matters.
Daniel ⌞explained⌟ and said, “I was looking in my vision in the night, and look, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea.
Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.
Daniel spoke and said, “I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the sky broke out on the great sea.
And four great beasts were coming up from the sea, differing ⌞from one another⌟.
And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.
Four great animals came up from the sea, different from one another.
The first was like a lion and ⌞had⌟ the wings of an eagle. I was watching until its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the earth and it was raised on its feet like a human, and a human heart was given to it.
The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.
“The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings. I watched until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet as a man. A man’s heart was given to it.
And look, another beast, a second one, looking like a bear. And it was raised up on one side and three tusks were in its mouth between its teeth, and so ⌞it was told⌟, “Arise, eat much flesh!”
And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.
“Behold, there was another animal, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth. They said this to it: ‘Arise! Devour much flesh!’
After this I was watching and look, another beast like a leopard; ⌞it had four wings⌟ of a bird on its back, and ⌞the beast had⌟ four heads, and dominion was given to it.
After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.
“After this I saw, and behold, another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The animal also had four heads; and dominion was given to it.
After this in the visions of the night I was looking and there was a fourth beast, terrifying and frightful and exceedingly strong, and ⌞it had⌟ ⌞great iron teeth⌟, and it was devouring and crushing, and it stamped the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the other beasts ⌞that preceded it⌟ ⌞and it had ten horns⌟.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
“After this I saw in the night visions, and, behold, there was a fourth animal, awesome, powerful, and exceedingly strong. It had great iron teeth. It devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet. It was different from all the animals that were before it. It had ten horns.
I was considering the horns, and look, another little horn came up ⌞among⌟ them, and three of the earlier horns ⌞were rooted out⌟ from before it, and there were eyes like the eyes of a human in this horn and also a mouth that was speaking boastfully.
I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
“I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots; and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking arrogantly.
“⌞I continued watching⌟ until thrones were placed and an Ancient of Days sat; his clothing was like white snow and the hair of his head was like pure wool and his throne was a flame of fire and its wheels were burning fire.
I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
“I watched until thrones were placed, and one who was Ancient of Days sat. His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool. His throne was fiery flames, and its wheels burning fire.
A stream of fire issued forth and flowed ⌞from his presence⌟; thousands upon thousands served him and ten thousand upon ten thousand stood before him. The judge sat, and the books were opened.
A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
A fiery stream issued and came out from before him. Thousands of thousands ministered to him. Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The judgment was set. The books were opened.
“⌞I continued watching⌟ then because of the noise of the boastful words of the horn who was speaking; ⌞I continued watching⌟ until the beast was slain and its body was destroyed, and it was given over to burning with fire.
I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.
“I watched at that time because of the voice of the arrogant words which the horn spoke. I watched even until the animal was slain, and its body destroyed, and it was given to be burned with fire.
And as for the remainder of the beasts, ⌞their dominion was taken away⌟, but a prolongation ⌞of their life⌟ was given to them for a season and a time.
As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.
As for the rest of the animals, their dominion was taken away; yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.
“⌞I continued watching⌟ in the visions of the night, and look, with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man was coming, and he came to the Ancient of Days, and ⌞was presented⌟ before him.
I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
“I saw in the night visions, and behold, there came with the clouds of the sky one like a son of man, and he came even to the Ancient of Days, and they brought him near before him.
And to him was given dominion and glory and kingship that all the peoples, the nations, and languages would serve him; his dominion is a dominion ⌞without end⌟ that will not cease, and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
Dominion was given him, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which will not pass away, and his kingdom one that will not be destroyed.
“⌞As for me, Daniel⌟, my spirit was troubled ⌞within me⌟, and the visions of my head terrified me.
I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.
“As for me, Daniel, my spirit was grieved within my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.
So I approached one of the attendants and I asked him about the truth concerning all this; and he told me that he would make known to me the explanation of the matter.
I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.
I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth concerning all this. “So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.
‘These great beasts which are four in number are four kings who will arise from the earth.
These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.
‘These great animals, which are four, are four kings, who will arise out of the earth.
But the holy ones of the Most High will receive the kingdom, and they will take possession of the kingdom forever, ⌞forever and ever⌟.’
But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.
But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.’
“Then I desired to make certain concerning the fourth beast that was different from ⌞all the others⌟—exceedingly terrifying, with its iron teeth and its claws of bronze; it devoured and crushed and stamped the remainder with its feet—
Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;
“Then I desired to know the truth concerning the fourth animal, which was different from all of them, exceedingly terrible, whose teeth were of iron, and its nails of bronze; which devoured, broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet;
and concerning the horns that were on its head, and concerning the other horn that came up and ⌞before which three horns fell⌟, and this horn ⌞had eyes⌟ and a mouth speaking ⌞boastfully⌟, and its appearance was larger than its companions.
And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.
and concerning the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up, and before which three fell, even that horn that had eyes and a mouth that spoke arrogantly, whose look was more stout than its fellows.
⌞I continued watching⌟, and this horn made war with the holy ones and it prevailed over them,
I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
I saw, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them,
until the Ancient of Days came and gave judgment to the holy ones of the Most High; and the time arrived and the holy ones took possession of the kingdom.
Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High, and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
“And he said, ‘The fourth beast is the fourth kingdom that will be on the earth that will be different from all the other kingdoms, and it will devour the whole earth and it will trample it and it will crush it.
Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
“So he said, ‘The fourth animal will be a fourth kingdom on earth, which will be different from all the kingdoms, and will devour the whole earth, and will tread it down and break it in pieces.
And as for the ten horns coming from it, from this kingdom ten kings will arise, and another will arise after them. And he will be different from the earlier ones, and he will subdue three kings.
And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.
As for the ten horns, ten kings will arise out of this kingdom. Another will arise after them; and he will be different from the former, and he will put down three kings.
And he will speak words against the Most High, and he will wear out the holy ones of the Most High, and he will attempt to change times and law, and they will be given into his hand for a time and two times and half a time.
And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
He will speak words against the Most High, and will wear out the saints of the Most High. He will plan to change the times and the law; and they will be given into his hand until a time and times and half a time.
Then the court will sit, and his dominion will be removed, to be eradicated and to be destroyed ⌞totally⌟.
Empero se sentará el juez, y quitaránle su señorío, para que sea destruído y arruinado hasta el extremo;
But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.
“‘But the judgment will be set, and they will take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it to the end.
And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the nation of the holy ones of the Most High; his kingdom ⌞is an everlasting kingdom⌟, and all the dominions will serve and obey him.’
And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.
The kingdom and the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole sky, will be given to the people of the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions will serve and obey him.’
⌞This is the end of the account⌟. ⌞As for me, Daniel⌟—my thoughts terrified me greatly and my face changed over me, but I kept the matter in my heart.”
Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.
“Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts troubled me greatly, and my face was changed in me; but I kept the matter in my heart.”
