Deuteronomio 29

1Los siguientes son los términos del acuerdo que el Señor ordenó a Moisés hacer con los israelitas en el país de Moab Esto fue en adición al acuerdo que había hecho con ellos en Horeb.
2Moisés convocó a todos los israelitas y les anunció: “Han visto con sus propios ojos todo lo que el Señor hizo en Egipto con el faraón, con todos sus funcionarios y con todo su país”.
3Vieron con sus propios ojos las pruebas asombrosas, y las grandes señales y milagros.
4Pero hasta ahora el Señor no les ha dado mentes que entiendan, ni ojos que vean, ni oídos que oigan, diciendo:
5Durante cuarenta años los conduje por el desierto, pero sus vestidos y sandalias no se desgastaron.
6No tenían pan para comer, ni vino o alcohol para beber, para que se dieran cuenta de que yo soy el Señor tu Dios.
7Cuando llegamos aquí, Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron a luchar contra nosotros en la batalla, pero los vencimos.
8Tomamos su tierra y se la dimos a las tribus de Rubén, Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés para que la posean.
9Así que asegúrense de cumplir y seguir los términos de este acuerdo para que tengan éxito en todo lo que hagan.
10Todos ustedes están hoy aquí ante el Señor su Dios: los jefes de las tribus, los oficiales y todos los hombres de Israel,
11us hijos y esposas y los extranjeros en sus campamentos que cortan la leña y acarrean el agua.
12Están aquí para que puedanentrar a hacer parte del pacto del Señor su Dios, que hoy hace con ustedes, y para aceptar su solemne promesa;
13para que él los confirme hoy como su pueblo. Él será tu Dios como se los dijo y como se lo prometió a sus antepasados Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.
14No es sólo con ustedes que el Señor está haciendo este acuerdo y promesa solemne,
15o es solo con los que están aquí con nosotros hoy en la presencia del Señor nuestro Dios, sino también con los que no están aquí hoy.
16Ustedes saben muy bien cómo era cuando vivíamos en la tierra de Egipto y nuestras experiencias al pasar por las naciones en el camino hacia aquí.
17Vieron sus repugnantes prácticas religiosas y sus ídolos de madera y piedra, y plata y oro.
18Hoy deben asegurarse de que no haya ningún hombre o mujer, familia o tribu que quiera alejarse del Señor nuestro Dios e ir a adorar a los dioses de estas naciones. Asegúrense de que no hay nada de eso entre ustedes que produzca tal veneno y amargura.
19Porque cuando alguien así oye las palabras de esta solemne promesa, cree que aún recibirá una bendición, diciéndose a sí mismo: “Estaré a salvo, aunque seguiré haciendo lo que me plazca”. Tal actitud destruiría lo bueno y lo malo por igual.
20El Señor nunca querría perdonarlos. De hecho, su ira arderá contra ellos, y cada maldición escrita en este libro caerá sobre ellos. El Señor borrará su nombre de la tierra,
21y los castigará como un ejemplo de ellos para todas las tribus israelitas, de acuerdo con todas las maldiciones del acuerdo escrito en este Libro de la Ley.
22Las generaciones posteriores, sus descendientes y los extranjeros de lejos, verán cómo el Señor ha traído el desastre al país y lo ha devastado.
23Todo el país será un desierto ardiente de azufre y sal. Nada se siembra, es totalmente improductivo; ninguna planta crece allí, como la destrucción de Sodoma y Gomorra, Adma y Zeboím, que el Señor destruyó en su ardiente ira.
24Todos en todas partes se preguntarán: “¿Por qué el Señor hizo esto al país? ¿Por qué se enojó tanto?”
25El pueblo responderá: “Es porque abandonaron el pacto del Señor, el Dios de sus antepasados, que hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de Egipto.
26Se fueron y adoraron a otros dioses, inclinándose ante dioses que nunca habían escuchado, dioses que el Señor no les había dado.
27Por eso el Señor estaba tan enojado con esta tierra, y llovió sobre ella cada maldición escrita en este libro.
28El Señor los arrancó de su país con su ira, su furia y su enojo, y los echó, dejándolos en otra tierra, donde están hasta hoy”.
29El Señor, nuestro Dios, tiene secretos que le pertenecen, pero lo que se ha revelado nos pertenece a nosotros y a nuestros descendientes para siempre, para que podamos seguir todo en esta ley.

1ESTAS son las palabras del pacto que Jehová mandó á Moisés concertara con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab, además del pacto que concertó con ellos en Horeb.
2Moisés pues llamó á todo Israel, y díjoles: Vosotros habéis visto todo lo que Jehová ha hecho delante de vuestros ojos en la tierra de Egipto á Faraón y á todos sus siervos, y á toda su tierra:
3Las pruebas grandes que vieron tus ojos, las señales, y las grandes maravillas.
4Y Jehová no os dió corazón para entender, ni ojos para ver, ni oídos para oir, hasta el día de hoy.
5Y yo os he traído cuarenta años por el desierto: vuestros vestidos no se han envejecido sobre vosotros, ni tu zapato se ha envejecido sobre tu pie.
6No habéis comido pan, ni bebisteis vino ni sidra: para que supieseis que yo soy Jehová vuestro Dios.
7Y llegasteis á este lugar, y salió Sehón rey de Hesbón, y Og rey de Basán, delante de nosotros para pelear, y herímoslos;
8Y tomamos su tierra, y dímosla por heredad á Rubén y á Gad, y á la media tribu de Manasés.
9Guardaréis, pues, las palabras de este pacto, y las pondréis por obra, para que prosperéis en todo lo que hiciereis.
10Vosotros todos estáis hoy delante de Jehová vuestro Dios; vuestros príncipes de vuestras tribus, vuestros ancianos, y vuestros oficiales, todos los varones de Israel,
11Vuestros niños, vuestras mujeres, y tus extranjeros que habitan en medio de tu campo, desde el que corta tu leña hasta el que saca tus aguas:
12Para que entres en el pacto de Jehová tu Dios, y en su juramento, que Jehová tu Dios acuerda hoy contigo:
13Para confirmarte hoy por su pueblo, y que él te sea á ti por Dios, de la manera que él te ha dicho, y como él juró á tus padres Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob.
14Y no con vosotros solos acuerdo yo este pacto y este juramento,
15Sino con los que están aquí presentes hoy con nosotros delante de Jehová nuestro Dios, y con los que no están aquí hoy con nosotros.
16Porque vosotros sabéis cómo habitamos en la tierra de Egipto, y cómo hemos pasado por medio de las gentes que habéis pasado;
17Y habéis visto sus abominaciones, y sus ídolos, madera y piedra, plata y oro, que tienen consigo.
18Quizá habrá entre vosotros varón, ó mujer, ó familia, ó tribu, cuyo corazón se vuelva hoy de con Jehová nuestro Dios, por andar á servir á los dioses de aquellas gentes; quizá habrá en vosotros raíz que eche veneno y ajenjo;
19Y sea que, cuando el tal oyere las palabras de esta maldición, él se bendiga en su corazón, diciendo: Tendré paz, aunque ande según el pensamiento de mi corazón, para añadir la embriaguez á la sed:
20Jehová no querrá perdonarle; antes humeará luego el furor de Jehová y su celo sobre el tal hombre, y asentaráse sobre él toda maldición escrita en este libro, y Jehová raerá su nombre de debajo del cielo:
21Y apartarálo Jehová de todas las tribus de Israel para mal, conforme á todas las maldiciones del pacto escrito en este libro de la ley.
22Y dirá la generación venidera, vuestros hijos que vendrán después de vosotros, y el extranjero que vendrá de lejanas tierras, cuando vieren las plagas de aquesta tierra, y sus enfermedades de que Jehová la hizo enfermar,
23(Azufre y sal, abrasada toda su tierra: no será sembrada, ni producirá, ni crecerá en ella hierba ninguna, como en la subversión de Sodoma y de Gomorra, de Adma y de Seboim, que Jehová subvirtió en su furor y en su ira:)
24Dirán, pues, todas las gentes: ¿Por qué hizo Jehová esto á esta tierra? ¿qué ira es ésta de tan gran furor?
25Y responderán: Por cuanto dejaron el pacto de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, que él concertó con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto,
26Y fueron y sirvieron á dioses ajenos, é inclináronse á ellos, dioses que no conocían, y que ninguna cosa les habían dado:
27Encendióse por tanto, el furor de Jehová contra esta tierra, para traer sobre ella todas las maldiciones escritas en este libro;
28Y Jehová los desarraigó de su tierra con enojo, y con saña, y con furor grande, y los echó á otra tierra, como hoy.
29Las cosas secretas pertenecen á Jehová nuestro Dios: mas las reveladas son para nosotros y para nuestros hijos por siempre, para que cumplamos todas las palabras de esta ley.

1These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
2And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
3The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:
4Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
5And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.
6Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.
7And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:
8And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh.
9Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
10Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,
11Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:
12That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:
13That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
14Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;
15But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:
16(For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
17And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)
18Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
19And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
20The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
21And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:
22So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
23And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
24Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?
25Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:
26For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them:
27And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:
28And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.
29The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

2Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that the LORD did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;
3the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders.
4But the LORD has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.
5I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your sandals have not grown old on your feet.
6You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.
7When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we struck them.
8We took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.
9Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.

13that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may be your God, as he spoke to you and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
14Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only,
15but with those who stand here with us today before the LORD our God, and also with those who are not here with us today
16(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the middle of the nations through which you passed;
17and you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were among them);
18lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;
19and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.
20The LORD will not pardon him, but then the LORD’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under the sky.
21The LORD will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the law.
22The generation to come—your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which the LORD has made it sick,
23that all of its land is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn’t produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
24Even all the nations will say, “Why has the LORD done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”
25Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
26and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know and that he had not given to them.
27Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.
28The LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.”
29The secret things belong to the LORD our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
