Chi è come il savio? e chi conosce la spiegazione delle cose? La sapienza d’un uomo gli fa risplendere la faccia, e la durezza del suo volto n’è mutata.
¿QUIÉN como el sabio? ¿y quién como el que sabe la declaración de las cosas? La sabiduría del hombre hará relucir su rostro, y mudaráse la tosquedad de su semblante.
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.
Who is like the wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.
Io ti dico: “Osserva gli ordini del re”; e questo, a motivo del giuramento che hai fatto dinanzi a Dio.
Yo te aviso que guardes el mandamiento del rey y la palabra del juramento de Dios.
I counsel thee to keep the king’s commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.
I say, “Keep the king’s command!” because of the oath to God.
Non t’affrettare ad allontanarti dalla sua presenza, e non persistere in una cosa cattiva; poich’egli può fare tutto quello che gli piace,
No te apresures á irte de delante de él, ni en cosa mala persistas; porque él hará todo lo que quisiere:
Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.
Don’t be hasty to go out of his presence. Don’t persist in an evil thing, for he does whatever pleases him,
perché la parola del re è potente; e chi gli può dire: “Che fai?”
Pues la palabra del rey es con potestad, ¿y quién le dirá, Qué haces?
Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
for the king’s word is supreme. Who can say to him, “What are you doing?”
Chi osserva il comandamento non conosce disgrazia, e il cuore dell’uomo savio sa che v’è un tempo e un giudizio;
El que guarda el mandamiento no experimentará mal; y el tiempo y el juicio conoce el corazón del sabio.
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man’s heart discerneth both time and judgment.
Whoever keeps the commandment shall not come to harm, and his wise heart will know the time and procedure.
perché per ogni cosa v’è un tempo e un giudizio; giacché la malvagità dell’uomo pesa grave addosso a lui.
Porque para todo lo que quisieres hay tiempo y juicio; mas el trabajo del hombre es grande sobre él;
Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.
For there is a time and procedure for every purpose, although the misery of man is heavy on him.
L’uomo, infatti, non sa quel che avverrà; poiché chi gli dirà come andranno le cose?
Porque no sabe lo que ha de ser; y el cuándo haya de ser, ¿quién se lo enseñará?
For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?
For he doesn’t know that which will be; for who can tell him how it will be?
Non v’è uomo che abbia potere sul vento per poterlo trattenere, o che abbia potere sul giorno della morte; non v’è congedo in tempo di guerra, e l’iniquità non può salvare chi la commette.
No hay hombre que tenga potestad sobre el espíritu para retener el espíritu, ni potestad sobre el día de la muerte: y no valen armas en tal guerra; ni la impiedad librará al que la posee.
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

Io ho veduto tutto questo, ed ho posto mente a tutto quello che si fa sotto il sole, quando l’uomo signoreggia sugli uomini per loro sventura.
Todo esto he visto, y puesto he mi corazón en todo lo que debajo del sol se hace: hay tiempo en que el hombre se enseñorea del hombre para mal suyo.
All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.

Ed ho veduto allora degli empi ricever sepoltura ed entrare nel loro riposo, e di quelli che s’eran condotti con rettitudine andarsene lungi dal luogo santo, ed esser dimenticati nella città. Anche questo è vanità.
Esto vi también: que los impíos sepultados vinieron aún en memoria; mas los que partieron del lugar santo, fueron luego puestos en olvido en la ciudad donde con rectitud habían obrado. Esto también es vanidad.

Siccome la sentenza contro una mala azione non si eseguisce prontamente, il cuore dei figliuoli degli uomini è pieno della voglia di fare il male.

Ma non v’è bene per l’empio, ed ei non prolungherà i suoi giorni come fa l’ombra che s’allunga; perché non prova timore nel cospetto di Dio.
Y que el impío no tendrá bien, ni le serán prolongados los días, que son como sombra; por cuanto no temió delante de la presencia de Dios.
But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.

V’è una vanità che avviene sulla terra; ed è che vi son dei giusti i quali son trattati come se avessero fatto l’opera degli empi, e vi son degli empi i quali son trattati come se avessero fatto l’opera de’ giusti. Io ho detto che anche questo è vanità.
Hay vanidad que se hace sobre la tierra: que hay justos á quienes sucede como si hicieran obras de impíos; y hay impíos á quienes acaece como si hicieran obras de justos. Digo que esto también es vanidad.

Così io ho lodata la gioia, perché non v’è per l’uomo altro bene sotto il sole, fuori del mangiare, del bere e del gioire; questo è quello che lo accompagnerà in mezzo al suo lavoro, durante i giorni di vita che Dio gli dà sotto il sole.

allora ho mirato tutta l’opera di Dio, e ho veduto che l’uomo è impotente a spiegare quello che si fa sotto il sole; egli ha un bell’affaticarsi a cercarne la spiegazione; non riesce a trovarla; e anche se il savio pretende di saperla, non però può trovarla.
Y he visto todas las obras de Dios, que el hombre no puede alcanzar la obra que debajo del sol se hace; por mucho que trabaje el hombre buscándola, no la hallará: aunque diga el sabio que la sabe, no por eso podrá alcanzarla.
Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
