1Aquella noche, al rey se le fue el sueño y ordenó que le leyeran las crónicas de su reino, que estaban en la biblioteca.
2Leyeron hasta el punto en que se relataba la forma en que Mardoqueo había delatado a Bigtán y Teres, los dos oficiales del rey, encargados de vigilar la puerta del palacio, que habían planeado asesinar al rey.
3―¿Qué recompensa le hemos dado a Mardoqueo por haber hecho esto? —preguntó el rey. ―Nada— respondieron sus oficiales.
4En ese preciso momento, Amán entraba al patio exterior del palacio, para pedirle al rey que colgara a Mardoqueo en la horca que había preparado. Por eso, el rey preguntó: ―¿Quién está en el patio?
5―Es Amán, Su Majestad —le respondieron sus oficiales. ―Díganle que venga —ordenó el rey.
6Entonces Amán entró y se presentó delante del rey, que le preguntó: ―¿En qué forma honrarías a un hombre al que yo deseo honrar? Amán pensó: «¿A quién querrá honrar el rey más que a mí?».
7Y respondió: ―Haría traer ropas reales que el rey haya usado, el caballo del rey, la corona real,

9y ordenaría a los príncipes más nobles del rey que lo vistieran y lo llevaran por las calles montado sobre el caballo del rey, y que fueran anunciando delante de él: “¡De esta manera el rey honra a una persona que le ha agradado!”.
10―¡Magnifico! —dijo el rey—. Toma las vestiduras y el caballo, y haz así con Mardoqueo, el judío que trabaja en la puerta real. Hazlo todo en la misma forma que lo has sugerido, sin que se te escape ni un solo detalle.
11Amán tomó las vestiduras, se las puso a Mardoqueo, lo hizo montar en el caballo del rey, y lo condujo por las calles gritando: «¡De esta manera el rey honra a los que le agradan!».
12Después de esto, Mardoqueo regresó a su trabajo, pero Amán se retiró a su casa. Se sentía humillado.
13Cuando les contó a su esposa Zeres y a todos sus amigos lo que había ocurrido, ellos le dijeron: ―Si Mardoqueo es judío, no podrás destruirlo. ¡Oponerte a él será tu derrota!
14Mientras aún discutían con él, los mensajeros llegaron para conducir a Amán rápidamente al banquete que Ester había preparado.

1AQUELLA noche se le fué el sueño al rey, y dijo que le trajesen el libro de las memorias de las cosas de los tiempos: y leyéronlas delante del rey.
2Y hallóse escrito que Mardochêo había denunciado de Bigthan y de Teres, dos eunucos del rey, de la guarda de la puerta, que habían procurado meter mano en el rey Assuero.
3Y dijo el rey: ¿Qué honra ó que distinción se hizo á Mardochêo por esto? Y respondieron los servidores del rey, sus oficiales: Nada se ha hecho con él.
4Entonces dijo el rey: ¿Quién está en el patio? Y Amán había venido al patio de afuera de la casa del rey, para decir al rey que hiciese colgar á Mardochêo en la horca que él le tenía preparada.
5Y los servidores del rey le respondieron: He aquí Amán está en el patio. Y el rey dijo: Entre.
6Entró pues Amán, y el rey le dijo: ¿Qué se hará al hombre cuya honra desea el rey? Y dijo Amán en su corazón: ¿A quién deseará el rey hacer honra más que á mí?
7Y respondió Amán al rey: Al varón cuya honra desea el rey,
8Traigan el vestido real de que el rey se viste, y el caballo en que el rey cabalga, y la corona real que está puesta en su cabeza;
9Y den el vestido y el caballo en mano de alguno de los príncipes más nobles del rey, y vistan á aquel varón cuya honra desea el rey, y llévenlo en el caballo por la plaza de la ciudad, y pregonen delante de él: Así se hará al varón cuya honra desea el rey.
10Entonces el rey dijo á Amán: Date priesa, toma el vestido y el caballo, como tú has dicho, y hazlo así con el judío Mardochêo, que se sienta á la puerta del rey; no omitas nada de todo lo que has dicho.
11Y Amán tomó el vestido y el caballo, y vistió á Mardochêo, y llevólo á caballo por la plaza de la ciudad, é hizo pregonar delante de él: Así se hará al varón cuya honra desea el rey.
12Después de esto Mardochêo se volvió á la puerta del rey, y Amán se fué corriendo á su casa, apesadumbrado y cubierta su cabeza.
13Contó luego Amán á Zeres su mujer, y á todos sus amigos, todo lo que le había acontecido: y dijéronle sus sabios, y Zeres su mujer: Si de la simiente de los Judíos es el Mardochêo, delante de quien has comenzado á caer, no lo vencerás; antes caerás por cierto delante de él.
14Aun estaban ellos hablando con él, cuando los eunucos del rey llegaron apresurados, para hacer venir á Amán al banquete que Esther había dispuesto.

1On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
2And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
3And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
4And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5And the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
6So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
7And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,
8Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
9And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
10Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
11Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
12And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
13And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
14And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

1On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.
2It was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were doorkeepers, who had tried to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus.
3The king said, “What honor and dignity has been given to Mordecai for this?” Then the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”
4The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5The king’s servants said to him, “Behold, Haman stands in the court.” The king said, “Let him come in.”
6So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”
7Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor,
8let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set.
9Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honor with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’”
10Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.”
11Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”
12Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered.
13Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him.”
14While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
