1Und Jethro, der Priester von Midian, der Schwiegervater Moses, hörte alles, was Gott an Mose und an Israel, seinem Volke, getan, daß Jehova Israel aus Ägypten herausgeführt hatte.
2Und Jethro, der Schwiegervater Moses, nahm Zippora, das Weib Moses, nach ihrer Heimsendung,
3und ihre zwei Söhne, von denen der Name des einen Gersom war, denn er sprach: Ein Fremdling bin ich geworden in fremdem Lande,
4und der Name des anderen Elieser: denn der Gott meines Vaters ist meine Hilfe gewesen und hat mich errettet vom Schwerte des Pharao;
5und Jethro, der Schwiegervater Moses, und seine Söhne und sein Weib kamen zu Mose in die Wüste, wo er gelagert war am Berge Gottes.
6Und er ließ Mose sagen: Ich, dein Schwiegervater Jethro, bin zu dir gekommen, und dein Weib und ihre beiden Söhne mit ihr.
7Da ging Mose hinaus, seinem Schwiegervater entgegen, und beugte sich nieder und küßte ihn; und sie fragten einer den anderen nach ihrem Wohlergehen und gingen ins Zelt.
8Und Mose erzählte seinem Schwiegervater alles, was Jehova an dem Pharao und an den Ägyptern getan hatte um Israels willen, all die Mühsal, die sie auf dem Wege getroffen, und daß Jehova sie errettet habe.
9Und Jethro freute sich über all das Gute, das Jehova an Israel getan, daß er es errettet hatte aus der Hand der Ägypter.
10Und Jethro sprach: Gepriesen sei Jehova, der euch errettet hat aus der Hand der Ägypter und aus der Hand des Pharao, der das Volk errettet hat unter der Hand der Ägypter hinweg!
11Nun weiß ich, daß Jehova größer ist als alle Götter; denn in der Sache, worin sie in Übermut handelten, war er über ihnen.
12Und Jethro, der Schwiegervater Moses, nahm ein Brandopfer und Schlachtopfer für Gott; und Aaron und alle Ältesten Israels kamen, um mit dem Schwiegervater Moses zu essen vor dem Angesicht Gottes.
13Und es geschah am anderen Tage, da setzte sich Mose, um das Volk zu richten; und das Volk stand bei Mose vom Morgen bis zum Abend.
14Und der Schwiegervater Moses sah alles, was er mit dem Volke tat, und er sprach: Was ist das, das du mit dem Volke tust? Warum sitzest du allein, und alles Volk steht bei dir vom Morgen bis zum Abend?
15Und Mose sprach zu seinem Schwiegervater: Weil das Volk zu mir kommt, um Gott zu befragen.
16Wenn sie eine Sache haben, so kommt es zu mir, und ich richte zwischen dem einen und dem anderen und tue ihnen die Satzungen Gottes und seine Gesetze kund.
17Da sprach der Schwiegervater Moses zu ihm: Die Sache ist nicht gut, die du tust;
18du wirst ganz erschlaffen, sowohl du, als auch dieses Volk, das bei dir ist; denn die Sache ist zu schwer für dich, du kannst sie nicht allein ausrichten.
19Höre nun auf meine Stimme, ich will dir raten, und Gott wird mit dir sein: Sei du für das Volk vor Gott, und bringe du die Sachen zu Gott;
20und erläutere ihnen die Satzungen und die Gesetze, und tue ihnen kund den Weg, auf dem sie wandeln, und das Werk, das sie tun sollen.
21Du aber ersieh dir aus dem ganzen Volke tüchtige, gottesfürchtige Männer, Männer der Wahrheit, die den ungerechten Gewinn hassen, und setze sie über sie: Oberste über tausend, Oberste über hundert, Oberste über fünfzig und Oberste über zehn,
22daß sie das Volk richten zu aller Zeit; und es geschehe, daß sie jede große Sache vor dich bringen und daß sie jede kleine Sache selbst richten; so erleichtere es dir, und sie mögen mit dir tragen.
23Wenn du dieses tust und Gott es dir gebietet, so wirst du bestehen können, und auch dieses ganze Volk wird in Frieden an seinen Ort kommen.
24Und Mose hörte auf die Stimme seines Schwiegervaters und tat alles, was er gesagt hatte.
25Und Mose wählte tüchtige Männer aus ganz Israel und setzte sie zu Häuptern über das Volk: Oberste über tausend, Oberste über hundert, Oberste über fünfzig und Oberste über zehn.
26Und sie richteten das Volk zu aller Zeit: die schwierige Sache brachten sie vor Mose, und jede kleine Sache richteten sie selbst.
27Und Mose ließ seinen Schwiegervater ziehen, und er zog hin in sein Land.

1Y OYÓ Jethro, sacerdote de Madián, suegro de Moisés, todas las cosas que Dios había hecho con Moisés, y con Israel su pueblo, y cómo Jehová había sacado á Israel de Egipto:
2Y tomó Jethro, suegro de Moisés, á Séphora la mujer de Moisés, después que él la envió,
3Y á sus dos hijos; el uno se llamaba Gersom, porque dijo, Peregrino he sido en tierra ajena;
4Y el otro se llamaba Eliezer, porque dijo, El Dios de mi padre me ayudó, y me libró del cuchillo de Faraón.
5Y Jethro, el suegro de Moisés, con sus hijos y su mujer, llegó á Moisés en el desierto, donde tenía el campo junto al monte de Dios;
6Y dijo á Moisés: Yo tu suegro Jethro vengo á ti, con tu mujer, y sus dos hijos con ella.
7Y Moisés salió á recibir á su suegro, é inclinóse, y besólo: y preguntáronse el uno al otro cómo estaban, y vinieron á la tienda.
8Y Moisés contó á su suegro todas las cosas que Jehová había hecho á Faraón y á los Egipcios por amor de Israel, y todo el trabajo que habían pasado en el camino, y cómo los había librado Jehová.
9Y alegróse Jethro de todo el bien que Jehová había hecho á Israel, que lo había librado de mano de los Egipcios.
10Y Jethro dijo: Bendito sea Jehová, que os libró de mano de los Egipcios, y de la mano de Faraón, y que libró al pueblo de la mano de los Egipcios.
11Ahora conozco que Jehová es grande más que todos los dioses; hasta en lo que se ensoberbecieron contra ellos.
12Y tomó Jethro, suegro de Moisés, holocaustos y sacrificios para Dios: y vino Aarón y todos los ancianos de Israel á comer pan con el suegro de Moisés delante de Dios.
13Y aconteció que otro día se sentó Moisés á juzgar al pueblo; y el pueblo estuvo delante de Moisés desde la mañana hasta la tarde.
14Y viendo el suegro de Moisés todo lo que él hacía con el pueblo, dijo: ¿Qué es esto que haces tú con el pueblo? ¿por qué te sientas tú solo, y todo el pueblo está delante de ti desde la mañana hasta la tarde?
15Y Moisés respondió á su suegro: Porque el pueblo viene á mí para consultar á Dios:
16Cuando tienen negocios, vienen á mí; y yo juzgo entre el uno y el otro, y declaro las ordenanzas de Dios y sus leyes.
17Entonces el suegro de Moisés le dijo: No haces bien:
18Desfallecerás del todo, tú, y también este pueblo que está contigo; porque el negocio es demasiado pesado para ti; no podrás hacerlo tú solo.
19Oye ahora mi voz, yo te aconsejaré, y Dios será contigo. Está tú por el pueblo delante de Dios, y somete tú los negocios á Dios.
20Y enseña á ellos las ordenanzas y las leyes, y muéstrales el camino por donde anden, y lo que han de hacer.
21Además inquiere tú de entre todo el pueblo varones de virtud, temerosos de Dios, varones de verdad, que aborrezcan la avaricia; y constituirás á éstos sobre ellos caporales sobre mil, sobre ciento, sobre cincuenta y sobre diez.
22Los cuales juzgarán al pueblo en todo tiempo; y será que todo negocio grave lo traerán á ti, y ellos juzgarán todo negocio pequeño: alivia así la carga de sobre ti, y llevarla han ellos contigo.
23Si esto hicieres, y Dios te lo mandare, tú podrás persistir, y todo este pueblo se irá también en paz á su lugar.
24Y oyó Moisés la voz de su suegro, é hizo todo lo que dijo.
25Y escogió Moisés varones de virtud de todo Israel, y púsolos por cabezas sobre el pueblo, caporales sobre mil, sobre ciento, sobre cincuenta, y sobre diez;
26Y juzgaban al pueblo en todo tiempo: el negocio arduo traíanlo á Moisés, y ellos juzgaban todo negocio pequeño.
27Y despidió Moisés á su suegro, y fuése á su tierra.

1When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;
2Then Jethro, Moses’ father in law, took Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her back,
3And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:
4And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:
5And Jethro, Moses’ father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:
6And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
7And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.
8And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them.
9And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
10And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
11Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
12And Jethro, Moses’ father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father in law before God.
13And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
14And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
15And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:
16When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.
17And Moses’ father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
18Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
19Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
20And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
21Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
22And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.
23If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.
24So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.
25And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
26And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
27And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

1Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses and for Israel his people, how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.
2Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, received Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her away,
3and her two sons. The name of one son was Gershom, for Moses said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land”.
4The name of the other was Eliezer, for he said, “My father’s God was my help and delivered me from Pharaoh’s sword.”
5Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with Moses’ sons and his wife to Moses into the wilderness where he was encamped, at the Mountain of God.
6He said to Moses, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, have come to you with your wife, and her two sons with her.”
7Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed and kissed him. They asked each other of their welfare, and they came into the tent.
8Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardships that had come on them on the way, and how the LORD delivered them.
9Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.
10Jethro said, “Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
11Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods because of the way that they treated people arrogantly.”
12Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. Aaron came with all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.
13On the next day, Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from the morning to the evening.
14When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, “What is this thing that you do for the people? Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning to evening?”
15Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.
16When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.”
17Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.
18You will surely wear away, both you, and this people that is with you; for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to perform it yourself alone.
19Listen now to my voice. I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You represent the people before God, and bring the causes to God.
20You shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and shall show them the way in which they must walk, and the work that they must do.
21Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men which fear God: men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
22Let them judge the people at all times. It shall be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall share the load with you.
