Entonces algunos de los sabios consejeros de Israel me visitaron para pedirme un mensaje del Señor,
Y VINIERON á mí algunos de los ancianos de Israel, y sentáronse delante de mí.
Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

y este es el mensaje que me vino para entregarles:
Y fué á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

«Hombre mortal, estos hombres tienen su corazón lleno de idolatría; su único interés es sacar ventaja de sus mentiras. ¿Debiera yo permitirles preguntarme algo?
Hijo del hombre, estos hombres han puesto sus ídolos en su corazón, y establecido el tropiezo de su maldad delante de su rostro: ¿acaso he de ser yo verdaderamente consultado por ellos?
Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
“Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart, and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face. Should I be inquired of at all by them?
Diles que el Señor Dios dice: “Yo, el Señor, me ocuparé en forma personal de castigar a cualquiera en Israel que rinde homenaje a los ídolos y que sólo habla mentiras y luego viene para solicitar mi ayuda.
Háblales por tanto, y diles: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Cualquier hombre de la casa de Israel que hubiere puesto sus ídolos en su corazón, y establecido el tropiezo de su maldad delante de su rostro, y viniere al profeta, yo Jehová responderé al que viniere en la multitud de sus ídolos;
Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘The Lord GOD says: “Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him there according to the multitude of his idols,
Pues yo castigaré a todos aquellos que se apartan de mí y van tras los ídolos”.
Para tomar á la casa de Israel en su corazón, que se han apartado de mí todos ellos en sus ídolos.
That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

»Por lo tanto adviérteles que Dios el Señor dice: “Arrepiéntanse y destruyan sus ídolos y dejen de rendirles homenaje y poniéndolos en todos los rincones de sus casas”. Yo, el Señor, personalmente castigaré a todo aquel o aquella, sea del pueblo de Israel o de los extranjeros que viven entre ustedes, que me rechaza por seguir a los ídolos y luego se acerca a un profeta para solicitar mi ayuda y consejo.
Por tanto di á la casa de Israel: Así dice el Señor Jehová: Convertíos, y volveos de vuestros ídolos, y apartad vuestro rostro de todas vuestras abominaciones.
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.
“Therefore tell the house of Israel, ‘The Lord GOD says: “Return, and turn yourselves from your idols! Turn away your faces from all your abominations.

Porque cualquier hombre de la casa de Israel, y de los extranjeros que moran en Israel, que se hubiere apartado de andar en pos de mí, y hubiere puesto sus ídolos en su corazón, y establecido delante de su rostro el tropiezo de su maldad, y viniere al profeta para preguntarle por mí, yo Jehová le responderé por mí mismo:
For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
“‘“For everyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who live in Israel, who separates himself from me and takes his idols into his heart, and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of me, I the LORD will answer him by myself.
Yo me volveré contra él o ella y le proporcionaré un terrible castigo ejemplar, lo haré el hazmerreír de todo mundo y será expulsado de entre los míos y entonces sabrá que yo soy el Señor.
Y pondré mi rostro contra aquel hombre, y le pondré por señal y por fábula, y yo lo cortaré de entre mi pueblo; y sabréis que yo soy Jehová.
And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

»Y si alguno de los falsos profetas de cualquier modo les da un mensaje, sepan que es una mentira. Su profecía no se cumplirá, y yo me pondré contra ese “profeta” y lo eliminaré de entre mi pueblo Israel.
Y el profeta, cuando fuere engañado y hablare palabra, yo Jehová engañé al tal profeta; y extenderé mi mano sobre él, y raeréle de en medio de mi pueblo de Israel.
And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
“‘“If the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the LORD, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand on him, and will destroy him from among my people Israel.
Serán castigados tanto los falsos profetas como quienes les consultan, todos serán castigados por sus extravíos,
Y llevarán su maldad: como la maldad del que pregunta, así será la maldad del profeta;
And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;
They will bear their iniquity. The iniquity of the prophet will be even as the iniquity of him who seeks him,
para que el pueblo de Israel aprenda a no abandonarme y contaminarse con todas sus maldades, sino a ser mi pueblo fiel y yo su Dios. Así dice el Señor».
Para que no yerren más la casa de Israel de en pos de mí: ni más se contaminen en todas sus rebeliones, y me sean por pueblo, y yo les sea por Dios, dice el Señor Jehová.
That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.

Luego me vino este mensaje del Señor:
Y fué á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

«Hombre mortal, cuando la gente de esta tierra cometa infracciones contra mis instrucciones, yo los aplastaré con mi puño y suspenderé su sustento y les haré sufrir hambre tanto a las personas como a los animales.
Hijo del hombre, cuando la tierra pecare contra mí rebelándose pérfidamente, y extendiere yo mi mano sobre ella, y le quebrantare el arrimo del pan, y enviare en ella hambre, y talare de ella hombres y bestias;
Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
“Son of man, when a land sins against me by committing a trespass, and I stretch out my hand on it, and break the staff of its bread and send famine on it, and cut off from it man and animal—
Si Noé, Daniel y Job estuvieran hoy aquí, sólo ellos serían salvados debido su forma de vivir justa, pero yo destruiría el resto de Israel, dice el Señor Dios.
Si estuvieren en medio de ella estos tres varones, Noé, Daniel, y Job, ellos por su justicia librarán su vida, dice el Señor Jehová.
Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.

»Cuando yo envíe una invasión de peligrosos animales salvajes para acabar con la población y dejar la tierra en completa desolación,
Y si hiciere pasar malas bestias por la tierra, y la asolaren, y fuere desolada que no haya quien pase á causa de las bestias,
If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:
“If I cause evil animals to pass through the land, and they ravage it and it is made desolate, so that no man may pass through because of the animals—
aun si estos tres hombres justos estuvieran allí, el Señor Dios jura que no cambiaría la situación, pues no salvaría a la gente de la destrucción que ha decidido provocar. Sólo estos tres se salvarían, pero la tierra y sus habitantes serían devastados.
Y estos tres varones estuvieren en medio de ella, vivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, ni á sus hijos ni á sus hijas librarán; ellos solos serán libres, y la tierra será asolada.

»O cuando yo traiga guerra contra la tierra y mande a los ejércitos del enemigo a venir y destruir todo,
O si yo trajere espada sobre la tierra, y dijere: Espada, pasa por la tierra; é hiciere talar de ella hombres y bestias,
Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:
“Or if I bring a sword on that land, and say, ‘Sword, go through the land, so that I cut off from it man and animal’—
aunque estos tres hombres estuviesen sobre la tierra, el Señor Dios declara que sólo ellos se salvarían.
Y estos tres varones estuvieren en medio de ella, vivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, no librarán sus hijos ni sus hijas; ellos solos serán libres.

»Y cuando yo dé rienda suelta a mi cólera enviando una epidemia a la tierra y la plaga mate tanto a las personas como a los animales,
O si pestilencia enviare sobre esa tierra, y derramare mi ira sobre ella en sangre, para talar de ella hombres y bestias,
Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:
“Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my wrath on it in blood, to cut off from it man and animal—
aunque Noé, Daniel y Job vivieran allí, el Señor Dios dice que sólo ellos se salvarían a causa de su forma justa de vivir.
Y estuvieren en medio de ella Noé, Daniel, y Job, vivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, no librarán hijo ni hija; ellos por su justicia librarán su vida.
Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

»Y el Señor agrega: Cuatro grandes castigos aguardan a Jerusalén para destruir toda vida: guerra, hambre, fieras y plaga.
Por lo cual así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: ¿Cuánto más, si mis cuatro malos juicios, espada, y hambre, y mala bestia, y pestilencia, enviare contra Jerusalem, para talar de ella hombres y bestias?
For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?
For the Lord GOD says: “How much more when I send my four severe judgments on Jerusalem—the sword, the famine, the evil animals, and the pestilence—to cut off from it man and animal!
Y si después hubiera sobrevivientes y vinieran aquí para unirse a ustedes como exiliados en Babilonia, verían con sus propios ojos cuán perversos son ustedes, y sabrían que fue justo que yo destruyera a Jerusalén.
Sin embargo, he aquí quedarán en ella algunos residuos, hijos é hijas, que serán llevados fuera: he aquí que ellos entrarán á vosotros, y veréis su camino y sus hechos; y tomaréis consolación del mal que hice venir sobre Jerusalem, de todas las cosas que traje sobre ella.
Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.
Yet, behold, there will be left a remnant in it that will be carried out, both sons and daughters. Behold, they will come out to you, and you will see their way and their doings. Then you will be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought on Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought on it.
Estarán de acuerdo, cuando se encuentren con ellos, de que con toda razón se están haciendo todas estas cosas a Israel».
Y consolaros han cuando viereis su camino y sus hechos, y conoceréis que no sin causa hice todo lo que habré hecho en ella, dice el Señor Jehová.
And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.
