A mediados de mayo del año undécimo del cautiverio del rey Joacín, me vino este mensaje del Señor:
Y ACONTECIÓ en el año undécimo, en el mes tercero, al primero del mes, que fué á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

«Hombre mortal, pregúntale al faraón, rey de Egipto, y a todo su pueblo: “¿Con quién les gustaba compararse cuando estaban en el punto más alto de su poderío?
Hijo del hombre, di á Faraón rey de Egipto, y á su pueblo: ¿A quién te comparaste en tu grandeza?
Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?
“Son of man, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt and his multitude: ‘Whom are you like in your greatness?
¡Tú eres como Asiria lo fue, una nación grande y poderosa, como un cedro del Líbano, llena de frondosas ramas, con su copa tan alta que llegaba hasta las nubes!
He aquí era el Asirio cedro en el Líbano, hermoso en ramas, y umbroso con sus ramos, y de grande altura, y su copa estaba entre densas ramas.
Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.

Sus raíces penetraban profundamente en la tierra húmeda, crecía en forma exuberante y mandaba sus acequias de agua a todos los árboles en derredor.
Las aguas lo hicieron crecer, encumbrólo el abismo: sus ríos iban alrededor de su pie, y á todos los árboles del campo enviaba sus corrientes.
The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.
The waters nourished it. The deep made it to grow. Its rivers ran all around its plantation. It sent out its channels to all the trees of the field.
Sobrepasaba a todos los demás árboles, se multiplicaron sus ramas y su fronda se extendió gracias a toda el agua que tenían sus raíces.
Por tanto, se encumbró su altura sobre todos los árboles del campo, y multiplicáronse sus ramos, y á causa de las muchas aguas se alargaron sus ramas que había echado.
Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.

Las aves hacían sus nidos en sus ramas, y a su sombra los rebaños y el ganado se reproducían. Todas las grandes naciones del mundo vivían bajo su sombra protectora.
En sus ramas hacían nido todas las aves del cielo, y debajo de su ramaje parían todas las bestias del campo, y á su sombra habitaban muchas gentes.
All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.
All the birds of the sky made their nests in its boughs. Under its branches, all the animals of the field gave birth to their young. All great nations lived under its shadow.
Era fuerte y hermoso, pues sus raíces penetraban hondo hasta el agua.
Hízose, pues, hermoso en su grandeza con la extensión de sus ramas; porque su raíz estaba junto á muchas aguas.
Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.

Este árbol era más alto que cualquier otro en el jardín de Dios; ningún ciprés tenía ramas iguales, ni su fronda podía compararse; ninguno lo igualaba en hermosura.
Los cedros no lo cubrieron en el huerto de Dios: las hayas no fueron semejantes á sus ramas, ni los castaños fueron semejantes á sus ramos: ningún árbol en el huerto de Dios fué semejante á él en su hermosura.
The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.

Por la magnificencia que yo le había dado, él era la envidia de todos los demás árboles del Edén, el jardín de Dios.
Hícelo hermoso con la multitud de sus ramas; y todos los árboles de Edén, que estaban en el huerto de Dios, tuvieron de él envidia.
I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

»”Pero Egipto se ha vuelto orgulloso y arrogante, dice el Señor Dios. Entonces, ya que se ha puesto tan por encima de los demás, alcanzando las nubes,
Por tanto, así dijo el Señor Jehová: Por cuanto te encumbraste en altura, y puso su cumbre entre densas ramas, y su corazón se elevó con su altura,
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
“Therefore thus said the Lord GOD: ‘Because he is exalted in stature, and he has set his top among the thick branches, and his heart is lifted up in his height,
yo lo entregaré en poder de una poderosa nación para destruirlo como merece su arrogancia. ¡Yo mismo lo talaré!
Yo lo entregaré en mano del fuerte de las gentes, que de cierto le manejará: por su impiedad lo he arrojado.
I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

Un ejército extranjero, el de Babilonia —el terror de las naciones—, invadirá su tierra y lo talará, dejándola caído sobre la tierra. Sus ramas serán esparcidas por las montañas, valles y ríos de su tierra. Todos aquellos que viven bajo su sombra se alejarán y lo dejarán secándose allí donde cayó.
Y le cortarán extraños, los fuertes de las gentes, y lo abandonarán: sus ramas caerán sobre los montes y por todos los valles, y por todas las arroyadas de la tierra serán quebrados sus ramos; é iránse de su sombra todos los pueblos de la tierra, y lo dejarán.
And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
Foreigners, the tyrants of the nations, have cut him off and have left him. His branches have fallen on the mountains and in all the valleys, and his boughs are broken by all the watercourses of the land. All the peoples of the earth have gone down from his shadow and have left him.
En lo que quede por los suelos sólo podrán poner sus nidos algunas aves y su refugio algunas fieras.
Sobre su ruina habitarán todas las aves del cielo, y sobre su ramas estarán todas las bestias del campo:
Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:
All the birds of the sky will dwell on his ruin, and all the animals of the field will be on his branches,
¡Que ninguna otra nación se regocije con orgullo por su propia prosperidad, aunque sea más alta que las nubes, pues todas están sentenciadas y caerán estrepitosamente junto con todos los hombres orgullosos del mundo!”».
Para que no se eleven en su altura los árboles todos de las aguas, ni levanten su cumbre entre las espesuras, ni en sus ramas se paren por su altura todos los que beben aguas: porque todos serán entregados á muerte, á la tierra baja, en medio de los hijos de los hombres, con los que descienden á la huesa.
To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.

El Señor Dios dice: «¡Cuando Egipto cayó, hasta la naturaleza sufrió por ello, hice que los océanos hicieran duelo por él y restringieran sus mareas! Vestí al Líbano de negro e hice llorar a sus árboles.
Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: El día que descendió á la sepultura, hice hacer luto, hice cubrir por él el abismo, y detuve sus ríos, y las muchas aguas fueron detenidas: y al Líbano cubrí de tinieblas por él, y todos los árboles del campo se desmayaron.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
“The Lord GOD says: ‘In the day when he went down to Sheol, I caused a mourning. I covered the deep for him, and I restrained its rivers. The great waters were stopped. I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
Hice temblar a las naciones con temor ante lo estrepitoso de su caída, porque lo arrojé al abismo de la muerte junto con todas aquellas naciones que eran como él. Y todos los otros árboles orgullosos del Edén, los más escogidos y mejores del Líbano, aquellos cuyas raíces penetraban profundamente hasta las corrientes subterráneas, se consuelan al encontrarlo allí junto a ellas en el abismo de la muerte.
Del estruendo de su caída hice temblar las gentes, cuando les hice descender á la fosa con todos los que descienden á la sepultura; y todos los árboles de Edén escogidos, y los mejores del Líbano, todos los que beben aguas, tomaron consolación en la tierra baja.
I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.

Sus aliados también están todos destruidos y perecen con él. Ellos descendieron con ella al mundo inferior, aquellas naciones que habían vivido bajo su sombra protectora.
También ellos descendieron con él á la fosa, con los muertos á cuchillo, los que fueron su brazo, los que estuvieron á su sombra en medio de las gentes.
They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.
They also went down into Sheol with him to those who are slain by the sword; yes, those who were his arm, who lived under his shadow in the middle of the nations.
»¡Oh Egipto, tú eres grande y glorioso entre los árboles del Edén, las naciones del mundo! ¡Pero serás abatido hasta el abismo de la muerte junto con todas estas otras naciones! Estarás entre las naciones que desprecias, liquidadas en la guerra. Este es el destino que le espera al faraón y a toda su innumerable gente, dice el Señor».
¿A quién te has comparado así en gloria y en grandeza entre los árboles de Edén? Pues derribado serás con los árboles de Edén en la tierra baja: entre los incircuncisos yacerás, con los muertos á cuchillo. Este es Faraón y todo su pueblo, dice el Señor Jehová.
To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
“‘To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth. You will lie in the middle of the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword. “‘This is Pharaoh and all his multitude,’ says the Lord GOD.”
