Esdras 4

Llegaron noticias a los que odiaban a Judá y Benjamín, de que las personas que habían regresado estaban reconstruyendo un templo para el Señor, el Dios de Israel;

Y OYENDO los enemigos de Judá y de Benjamín, que los venidos de la cautividad edificaban el templo de Jehová Dios de Israel,

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

Entonces vinieron a Zorobabel y a los jefes de familia, y les dijeron: Participemos en el edificio contigo; Porque somos siervos de tu Dios, así como tú eres; y le hemos estado haciendo ofrendas desde los días de Esar-hadon, rey de Asiria, que nos puso aquí.

Llegáronse á Zorobabel, y á los cabezas de los padres, y dijéronles: Edificaremos con vosotros, porque como vosotros buscaremos á vuestro Dios, y á él sacrificamos desde los días de Esar-haddón rey de Asiria, que nos hizo subir aquí.

Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

they came near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers’ households, and said to them, “Let us build with you, for we seek your God as you do; and we have been sacrificing to him since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.”

Pero Zorobabel, Josué y el resto de los jefes de familia en Israel les respondieron: Tú no tienes parte con nosotros en la construcción de un templo para nuestro Dios; nosotros mismos haremos el trabajo juntos por el Señor, el Dios de Israel, como Ciro, el rey de Persia, nos ha dado órdenes.

Y díjoles Zorobabel, y Jesuá, y los demás cabezas de los padres de Israel: No nos conviene edificar con vosotros casa á nuestro Dios, sino que nosotros solos la edificaremos á Jehová Dios de Israel, como nos mandó el rey Ciro, rey de Persia.

But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

Entonces la gente de la tierra hizo débiles las manos de la gente de Judá, atemorizándolos para que no terminaran la reconstrucción;

Mas el pueblo de la tierra debilitaba las manos del pueblo de Judá, y los arredraban de edificar.

Rehum, el principal gobernante, y Simsai, el escriba, enviaron una carta contra Jerusalén, al rey Artajerjes;

Y el resto de las naciones que el gran y noble Asnapar llevó desterradas y puso en Samaria y en el resto del país sobre el río:

Y los demás pueblos que el grande y glorioso Asnappar trasportó, é hizo habitar en las ciudades de Samaria, y los demás de la otra parte del río, etcétera, escribieron.

And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.

Le damos noticias al rey de que los judíos que vinieron de ustedes vinieron a nosotros a Jerusalén; están construyendo otra vez esa ciudad descontrolada y malvada; Las paredes están completas y están uniendo los fundamentos.

Sea notorio al rey, que los Judíos que subieron de ti á nosotros, vinieron á Jerusalem; y edifican la ciudad rebelde y mala, y han erigido los muros; y compuesto los fundamentos.

Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

Be it known to the king that the Jews who came up from you have come to us to Jerusalem. They are building the rebellious and bad city, and have finished the walls and repaired the foundations.

El rey puede estar seguro de que cuando se complete la construcción de esta ciudad y sus muros, no pagarán impuestos ni pagos en bienes o tributo, y al final será una causa de pérdida para los reyes.

Ahora, notorio sea al rey, que si aquella ciudad fuere reedificada, y los muros fueren establecidos, el tributo, pecho, y rentas no darán, y el catastro de lo reyes será menoscabado.

Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.

Be it known now to the king that if this city is built and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.

Ahora, porque somos responsables ante el rey, y no es correcto que veamos que se daña el honor del rey, hemos enviado para hacerlo saber al rey la palabra de estas cosas,

Ya pues que estamos mantenidos de palacio, no nos es justo ver el menosprecio del rey: hemos enviado por tanto, y hécholo saber al rey,

Now because we have maintenance from the king’s palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king’s dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

Now because we eat the salt of the palace and it is not appropriate for us to see the king’s dishonor, therefore we have sent and informed the king,

Para que la búsqueda se haga en el libro de los registros de sus antepasados, y verás en el libro de los registros que esta ciudad ha sido descontrolada, y que causa problemas a los reyes y países, y que allí hubo arrebatos contra la autoridad allí en el pasado: por lo que la ciudad fue destruida.

Para que busque en el libro de las historias de nuestros padres; y hallarás en el libro de las historias, y sabrás que esta ciudad es ciudad rebelde, y perjudicial á los reyes y á las provincias, y que de tiempo antiguo forman en medio de ella rebeliones; por lo que esta ciudad fué destruída.

That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

Les damos la noticia de que si la construcción de esta ciudad y sus muros se completan, habrá un fin de su poder en el país al otro lado del río.

Hacemos saber al rey, que si esta ciudad fuere edificada, y erigidos sus muros, la parte allá del río no será tuya.

We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

We inform the king that if this city is built and the walls finished, then you will have no possession beyond the River.

Entonces el rey envió una respuesta a Rehum, el gobernante principal, a Simsai el escriba, a sus amigos que viven en Samaria, y al resto de los que están al otro lado del río, diciéndoles: ¡Paz!

El rey envió esta respuesta á Rehum canciller, y á Simsai secretario, y á los demás sus compañeros que habitan en Samaria, y á los demás de la parte allá del río: Paz, etc.

Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.

Y ahora se me ha aclarado el sentido de la carta que nos enviaste.

La carta que nos enviasteis claramente fué leída delante de mí.

Y di órdenes de que se realizará una búsqueda, y es cierto que en el pasado este pueblo causó problemas a los reyes y que allí se produjeron rebeliones contra la autoridad.

Y por mí fué dado mandamiento, y buscaron, y hallaron que aquella ciudad de tiempo antiguo se levanta contra los reyes, y se rebela, y se forma en ella sedición:

And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.

Además, ha habido grandes reyes en Jerusalén, que gobiernan todo el país al otro lado del río, a quienes se les entregan impuestos y pagos de bienes y tributos.

Y que reyes fuertes hubo en Jerusalem, quienes señorearon en todo lo que está á la parte allá del río; y que tributo, y pecho, y rentas se les daba.

Da una orden ahora, que estos hombres no continúen, y que la construcción de la ciudad debe ser detenida, hasta que yo dé una orden.

Ahora pues dad orden que cesen aquellos hombres, y no sea esa ciudad edificada, hasta que por mí sea dado mandamiento.

Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.

Asegúrate de hacer esto con todo cuidado; no permitas que los problemas aumenten para perjuicio de los reyes.

Y mirad bien que no hagáis error en esto: ¿por qué habrá de crecer el daño para perjuicio de los reyes?

Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

Luego, después de leer la carta del rey, Rehum y Simsai, el escriba y sus amigos fueron rápidamente a Jerusalén, a los judíos, y los hicieron detener la reconstrucción por la fuerza.

Entonces, cuando el traslado de la carta del rey Artajerjes fué leído delante de Rehum, y de Simsai secretario, y sus compañeros, fueron prestamente á Jerusalem á los Judíos, é hiciéronles cesar con poder y fuerza.

Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

Así de está manera fue la obra del templo de Dios en Jerusalén; así se detuvo, hasta el segundo año del gobierno de Darío, rey de Persia.

Cesó entonces la obra de la casa de Dios, la cual estaba en Jerusalem: y cesó hasta el año segundo del reinado de Darío rey de Persia.

Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Then work stopped on God’s house which is at Jerusalem. It stopped until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
