Lorsque les ennemis de Juda et de Benjamin apprirent que les fils de la captivité bâtissaient un temple à Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël,

Y OYENDO los enemigos de Judá y de Benjamín, que los venidos de la cautividad edificaban el templo de Jehová Dios de Israel,

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

ils vinrent auprès de Zorobabel et des chefs de famille, et leur dirent : " Laissez-nous bâtir avec vous ; car, comme vous, nous honorons votre Dieu, et nous lui offrons des sacrifices depuis le temps d'Asarhaddon, roi d'Assyrie, qui nous a fait monter ici. "

Llegáronse á Zorobabel, y á los cabezas de los padres, y dijéronles: Edificaremos con vosotros, porque como vosotros buscaremos á vuestro Dios, y á él sacrificamos desde los días de Esar-haddón rey de Asiria, que nos hizo subir aquí.

Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

Sea notorio al rey, que los Judíos que subieron de ti á nosotros, vinieron á Jerusalem; y edifican la ciudad rebelde y mala, y han erigido los muros; y compuesto los fundamentos.

Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.

Now because we have maintenance from the king’s palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king’s dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

Qu'on fasse des recherches dans le livre des annales de tes pères, et tu trouveras dans le livre des annales et tu sauras que cette ville est une ville rebelle, causant des dommages aux rois et aux provinces, et qu'on s'y livre à la révolte depuis les temps anciens. C'est pour cela que cette ville a été détruite.

Para que busque en el libro de las historias de nuestros padres; y hallarás en el libro de las historias, y sabrás que esta ciudad es ciudad rebelde, y perjudicial á los reyes y á las provincias, y que de tiempo antiguo forman en medio de ella rebeliones; por lo que esta ciudad fué destruída.

That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

Hacemos saber al rey, que si esta ciudad fuere edificada, y erigidos sus muros, la parte allá del río no será tuya.

We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

We inform the king that if this city is built and the walls finished, then you will have no possession beyond the River.

Le roi envoya cette réponse à Réhum, gouverneur, à Samsaï, secrétaire, et au reste de leurs compagnons, demeurant à Samarie et aux autres lieux d'au-delà du fleuve : " Salut, etc.

El rey envió esta respuesta á Rehum canciller, y á Simsai secretario, y á los demás sus compañeros que habitan en Samaria, y á los demás de la parte allá del río: Paz, etc.

Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.

" La lettre que vous nous avez envoyée a été lue distinctement devant moi.

J'ai donné un ordre, et on a fait des recherches, et l'on a trouvé que, dès les temps anciens, cette ville s'est soulevée contre les rois et qu'on s'y est livré à la sédition et à la révolte.

Y por mí fué dado mandamiento, y buscaron, y hallaron que aquella ciudad de tiempo antiguo se levanta contra los reyes, y se rebela, y se forma en ella sedición:

Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.

Gardez-vous de mettre en cela de la négligence, de peur que le mal n'augmente au détriment des rois. "

Y mirad bien que no hagáis error en esto: ¿por qué habrá de crecer el daño para perjuicio de los reyes?

Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

Alors, dès que la copie de la lettre du roi Artaxerxès eut été lue devant Réhum, Samsaï, secrétaire, et leurs compagnons, ils se rendirent avec hâte à Jérusalem vers les Juifs, et il leur firent cesser le travail par violence et par force.

Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
