OR i nemici di Giuda e di Beniamino, avendo inteso che quelli ch'erano stati in cattività, riedificavano il Tempio al Signore Iddio d'Israele,

Y OYENDO los enemigos de Judá y de Benjamín, que los venidos de la cautividad edificaban el templo de Jehová Dios de Israel,

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

si accostarono a Zorobabel, ed a' capi delle famiglie paterne, e dissero loro: Lasciate che noi edifichiamo con voi; perciocchè noi desideriamo ricercar l'Iddio vostro, come voi; ed anche noi gli sacrifichiamo dal tempo di Esar-haddon, re degli Assiri, il qual ci ha fatti venir qua.

Llegáronse á Zorobabel, y á los cabezas de los padres, y dijéronles: Edificaremos con vosotros, porque como vosotros buscaremos á vuestro Dios, y á él sacrificamos desde los días de Esar-haddón rey de Asiria, que nos hizo subir aquí.

Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

Ma Zorobabel, e Iesua, e gli altri capi delle famiglie paterne d'Israele, risposero loro: Ei non vi si conviene di edificar la Casa all'Iddio nostro con noi; ma noi congiuntamente edificheremo la Casa al Signore Iddio d'Israele, siccome Ciro, re di Persia, ci ha comandato.

Y díjoles Zorobabel, y Jesuá, y los demás cabezas de los padres de Israel: No nos conviene edificar con vosotros casa á nuestro Dios, sino que nosotros solos la edificaremos á Jehová Dios de Israel, como nos mandó el rey Ciro, rey de Persia.

But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

Ed il popolo del paese rendeva rimesse le mani del popolo di Giuda, e lo spaventava di fabbricare.

Il re sappia che i Giudei, che son venuti d'appresso a te a noi, son giunti in Gerusalemme; e che riedificano quella città ribella e malvagia; e rifanno interamente le mura, ed hanno già racconci i fondamenti.

Sea notorio al rey, que los Judíos que subieron de ti á nosotros, vinieron á Jerusalem; y edifican la ciudad rebelde y mala, y han erigido los muros; y compuesto los fundamentos.

Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

Ora sappia il re, che se questa città è riedificata, e se le sue mura son rifatte, essi non pagheranno più tributo, nè taglia, nè gabella; e così quella città recherà danno alle entrate reali.

Ahora, notorio sea al rey, que si aquella ciudad fuere reedificada, y los muros fueren establecidos, el tributo, pecho, y rentas no darán, y el catastro de lo reyes será menoscabado.

Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.

Ora, conciossiachè noi siamo salariati dal palazzo, e non sia cosa conveniente a noi il vedere che il re sia schernito, perciò abbiamo mandato a fare assapere la cosa al re.

Ya pues que estamos mantenidos de palacio, no nos es justo ver el menosprecio del rey: hemos enviado por tanto, y hécholo saber al rey,

Now because we have maintenance from the king’s palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king’s dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

Acciocchè cerchi nel libro delle memorie de' suoi predecessori; e tu vi troverai, e conoscerai che questa città è una città ribella, e dannosa ai re ed alle provincie; e che già ab antico vi si fanno dentro congiure; per la qual cagione fu distrutta.

Para que busque en el libro de las historias de nuestros padres; y hallarás en el libro de las historias, y sabrás que esta ciudad es ciudad rebelde, y perjudicial á los reyes y á las provincias, y que de tiempo antiguo forman en medio de ella rebeliones; por lo que esta ciudad fué destruída.

Noi facciamo assapere al re, che, se questa città è riedificata, e le sue mura son rifatte, la parte de' suoi stati ch'è di qua dal fiume, non sarà più sua.

Hacemos saber al rey, que si esta ciudad fuere edificada, y erigidos sus muros, la parte allá del río no será tuya.

We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

We inform the king that if this city is built and the walls finished, then you will have no possession beyond the River.

Il re mandò questa risposta: A Rehum, presidente del consiglio, ed a Simsai, segretario, ed agli altri lor colleghi, abitanti in Samaria; ed a tutti gli altri di di là dal fiume, salute ecc.

e guardatevi di far fallo in questo; perchè si lascerebbe crescere il male in detrimento dei re?

Y mirad bien que no hagáis error en esto: ¿por qué habrá de crecer el daño para perjuicio de los reyes?

Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

Allora, tosto che il tenor delle lettere del re Artaserse fu letto in presenza di Rehum, e di Simsai, segretario, e de' lor colleghi, essi andarono prestamente in Gerusalemme a' Giudei, e li fecero cessare a mano armata.
