Pero cuando los adversarios de Judá y Benjamín oyeron que el pueblo del exilio construía un Templo para Yavé, ʼElohim de Israel,

Y OYENDO los enemigos de Judá y de Benjamín, que los venidos de la cautividad edificaban el templo de Jehová Dios de Israel,

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

llegaron a Zorobabel y a los jefes de las casas paternas y les dijeron: Edificaremos con ustedes, porque buscamos a su ʼElohim como ustedes. Sacrificamos a Él desde los días de Esar-adón, rey de Asiria, que nos hizo subir aquí.

Llegáronse á Zorobabel, y á los cabezas de los padres, y dijéronles: Edificaremos con vosotros, porque como vosotros buscaremos á vuestro Dios, y á él sacrificamos desde los días de Esar-haddón rey de Asiria, que nos hizo subir aquí.

Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

they came near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers’ households, and said to them, “Let us build with you, for we seek your God as you do; and we have been sacrificing to him since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.”

Pero Zorobabel, Jesuá y los demás jefes de casas paternas de Israel les respondieron: Nada tienen ustedes en común con nosotros para que edifiquen Casa a nuestro ʼElohim. Nosotros solos construiremos para Yavé, ʼElohim de Israel, como Ciro, el rey de Persia, nos ordenó.

Y díjoles Zorobabel, y Jesuá, y los demás cabezas de los padres de Israel: No nos conviene edificar con vosotros casa á nuestro Dios, sino que nosotros solos la edificaremos á Jehová Dios de Israel, como nos mandó el rey Ciro, rey de Persia.

But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers’ households of Israel said to them, “You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we ourselves together will build to the LORD, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”

Entonces el pueblo de la tierra desalentaba al pueblo de Judá y los aterrorizaba mientras construían.

And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.

El comandante Rehum y el secretario Simsai escribieron al rey Artajerjes una carta contra Jerusalén:

And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.

sepa el rey que los judíos que subieron de ti, vinieron a nosotros a Jerusalén y están reedificando la ciudad rebelde y malvada. Terminan sus muros y reparan los cimientos.

Sea notorio al rey, que los Judíos que subieron de ti á nosotros, vinieron á Jerusalem; y edifican la ciudad rebelde y mala, y han erigido los muros; y compuesto los fundamentos.

Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.

Be it known to the king that the Jews who came up from you have come to us to Jerusalem. They are building the rebellious and bad city, and have finished the walls and repaired the foundations.

Sepa ahora el rey que si esta ciudad es reedificada y los muros terminados, no pagarán tributo, impuesto ni peaje. Eso perjudicará el tesoro de los reyes.

Ahora, notorio sea al rey, que si aquella ciudad fuere reedificada, y los muros fueren establecidos, el tributo, pecho, y rentas no darán, y el catastro de lo reyes será menoscabado.

Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.

Be it known now to the king that if this city is built and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.

Ahora, puesto que dependemos del palacio, y no es propio que nosotros veamos la afrenta del rey, por eso enviamos esto e informamos al rey

Ya pues que estamos mantenidos de palacio, no nos es justo ver el menosprecio del rey: hemos enviado por tanto, y hécholo saber al rey,

Now because we have maintenance from the king’s palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king’s dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

Now because we eat the salt of the palace and it is not appropriate for us to see the king’s dishonor, therefore we have sent and informed the king,

para que se indague en el rollo de las Memorias de tus antepasados. Hallarás en el rollo de las Memorias y sabrás que esta ciudad es rebelde y perjudicial para los reyes y las provincias, y que ellos incitaron revueltas en su interior desde tiempos muy antiguos. Por tanto, esta ciudad fue destruida.

Para que busque en el libro de las historias de nuestros padres; y hallarás en el libro de las historias, y sabrás que esta ciudad es ciudad rebelde, y perjudicial á los reyes y á las provincias, y que de tiempo antiguo forman en medio de ella rebeliones; por lo que esta ciudad fué destruída.

That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

Informamos al rey que si esta ciudad es reedificada y sus muros restaurados, como resultado no tendrás posesión.

Hacemos saber al rey, que si esta ciudad fuere edificada, y erigidos sus muros, la parte allá del río no será tuya.

We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.

We inform the king that if this city is built and the walls finished, then you will have no possession beyond the River.

Entonces el rey envió una respuesta al comandante Rehum y al secretario Simsai, a sus demás compañeros que habitaban en Samaria y a los demás de la provincia de Más Allá del Río Éufrates: Paz. Y ahora,

El rey envió esta respuesta á Rehum canciller, y á Simsai secretario, y á los demás sus compañeros que habitan en Samaria, y á los demás de la parte allá del río: Paz, etc.

Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.

Decreté que se buscara, y se halló que esa ciudad se rebela contra los reyes desde tiempo antiguo, que en ella se fomentó rebelión y sedición,

Y por mí fué dado mandamiento, y buscaron, y hallaron que aquella ciudad de tiempo antiguo se levanta contra los reyes, y se rebela, y se forma en ella sedición:

And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.

I decreed, and search has been made, and it was found that this city has made insurrection against kings in the past, and that rebellion and revolts have been made in it.

que en Jerusalén hubo reyes fuertes que dominaban toda la región de Más Allá del Río y que se les pagaba tributos, impuestos y peaje.

Y que reyes fuertes hubo en Jerusalem, quienes señorearon en todo lo que está á la parte allá del río; y que tributo, y pecho, y rentas se les daba.

Ahora pues, den órdenes para que esos hombres cesen su trabajo y que esa ciudad no sea reedificada hasta que un edicto sea promulgado por mí.

Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.

Guárdense de ser negligentes en hacer esto, pues, ¿por qué debe aumentar el daño en perjuicio de los reyes?

Y mirad bien que no hagáis error en esto: ¿por qué habrá de crecer el daño para perjuicio de los reyes?

Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

Be careful that you not be slack doing so. Why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

Tan pronto como la copia de la carta del rey Artajerjes fue leída delante de Rehum, del secretario Simsai y de sus compañeros, se presentaron apresuradamente en Jerusalén ante los judíos y los obligaron a cesar la obra por medio del poder y la fuerza.

Entonces, cuando el traslado de la carta del rey Artajerjes fué leído delante de Rehum, y de Simsai secretario, y sus compañeros, fueron prestamente á Jerusalem á los Judíos, é hiciéronles cesar con poder y fuerza.

Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

Cesó la obra de la Casa de ʼElohim que está en Jerusalén. Fue interrumpida hasta el año segundo del reinado de Darío, rey de Persia.

Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Then work stopped on God’s house which is at Jerusalem. It stopped until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
