este Esdras, digo, vino de Babilonia, el cual era un escriba o doctor muy diestro en la ley de Moisés, dada por el Señor Dios de Israel; y le otorgó el rey todas sus peticiones, pues le protegía la mano del Señor Dios suyo.
Este Esdras subió de Babilonia, el cual era escriba diligente en la ley de Moisés, que Jehová Dios de Israel había dado; y concedióle el rey, según la mano de Jehová su Dios sobre él, todo lo que pidió.
This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.

Esta es la copia de la carta en forma de decreto, que dio el rey Artajerjes a Esdras, sacerdote, escriba o maestro muy instruido en las palabras y mandamientos del Señor, y en las ceremonias prescritas por él a Israel:

Ha sido decretado por mí que cualquiera del pueblo de Israel, y de sus sacerdotes y levitas, residentes en mi reino, que quisiere ir a Jerusalén , vaya contigo;

I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.

tómalo libremente, y cuida de comprar con este dinero becerros, carneros, y hostias u ofrendas con sus libaciones, y ofrece estas cosas sobre el altar del templo de vuestro Dios que está en Jerusalén .
Comprarás pues prestamente con esta plata becerros, carneros, corderos, con sus presentes y sus libaciones, y los ofrecerás sobre el altar de la casa de vuestro Dios que está en Jerusalem.
That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

Asimismo los vasos que se te dan para servicio de la casa de tu Dios, los presentarás delante de Dios en Jerusalén .

The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.

En orden a lo demás que fuere menester para la casa de tu Dios, todo cuanto necesites gastar se te dará del tesoro y del fisco real,

And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king’s treasure house.

y por mí. Yo el rey de Artajerjes mando y ordeno a todos los tesoreros del erario público, existentes en la otra parte del río, que cuanto os pidiere Esdras sacerdote, escriba de la ley del Dios del cielo, se lo deis sin dilación,

Todo lo perteneciente al culto del Dios del cielo se ha de suministrar puntualmente a la casa del Dios del cielo, no sea que se irrite contra el reino del rey y de sus hijos.
Todo lo que es mandado por el Dios del cielo, sea hecho prestamente para la casa del Dios del cielo: pues, ¿por qué habría de ser su ira contra el reino del rey y de sus hijos?
Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

También os notificamos que no tenéis potestad de imponer alcabala, ni tributo, ni otras cargas a ninguno de los sacerdotes, y levitas, y cantores, y porteros, y natineos, y sirvientes de la casa de este Dios.
Y á vosotros os hacemos saber, que á todos los sacerdotes y Levitas, cantores, porteros, Nethineos y ministros de la casa de Dios, ninguno pueda imponerles tributo, ó pecho, ó renta.
Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.

Finalmente, tú, Esdras, según la sabiduría de tu Dios, en la cual estás versado, establece jueces y presidentes para que administren justicia a todo el pueblo que está al otro lado del río, esto es, a todos aquellos que reconocen la ley de tu Dios; y enseñadla libremente también a los que la ignoran.

And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.

Y cualquiera que no cumpliese exactamente la ley de tu Dios, y la ley del decreto del rey, será condenado a muerte, o a destierro, o a una multa pecuniaria, o al menos a cárcel.

Bendito sea el Señor Dios de nuestros padres, el cual puso este pensamiento en el corazón del rey para gloria de la casa del Señor que está en Jerusalén ;

y me dio prendas de su misericordia para delante del rey, y de sus consejeros, y de todos los grandes cortesanos del rey. Y confortado yo por la mano del Señor mi Dios, que me asistía, junté a los principales de Israel para que se viniesen conmigo.
