Gálatas 2

Catorce años más tarde fui de nuevo a Jerusalén, esta vez con Bernabé. Tito nos acompañaba.

DESPUÉS, pasados catorce años, fuí otra vez á Jerusalem juntamente con Bernabé, tomando también conmigo á Tito.

Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.

Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me.

Dios me había revelado que debía hablar en privado con los dirigentes de Jerusalén acerca del evangelio que predicaba entre los gentiles. Lo hice para que todo mi trabajo no fuera en vano.

Empero fuí por revelación, y comuniquéles el evangelio que predico entre los Gentiles; mas particularmente á los que parecían ser algo, por no correr en vano, ó haber corrido.

And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.

I went up by revelation, and I laid before them the Good News which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.

Y ni siquiera le exigieron a Tito, mi compañero, que se circuncidara, a pesar de que era griego.

Mas ni aun Tito, que estaba conmigo, siendo Griego, fué compelido á circuncidarse.

But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:

But not even Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.

El hecho es que algunos mal llamados hermanos fueron a observar disimuladamente la libertad que teníamos en Cristo Jesús, y ¡querían encadenarnos a sus leyes como si fuéramos esclavos!

Y eso por causa de los falsos hermanos, que se entraban secretamente para espiar nuestra libertad que tenemos en Cristo Jesús, para ponernos en servidumbre;

And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage,

Pero no les hicimos caso ni un momento, pues queríamos que la verdad del evangelio permaneciera entre ustedes.

A los cuales ni aun por una hora cedimos sujetándonos, para que la verdad del evangelio permaneciese con vosotros.

To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that the truth of the Good News might continue with you.

Los grandes dirigentes de la iglesia no añadieron ni una tilde a mi mensaje. (No es que me importe que hayan sido grandes, porque Dios no juzga por las aparencias).

Empero de aquellos que parecían ser algo (cuáles hayan sido algún tiempo, no tengo que ver; Dios no acepta apariencia de hombre), á mí ciertamente los que parecían ser algo, nada me dieron.

But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:

But from those who were reputed to be important—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn’t show partiality to man—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,

Más aún, Pedro, Jacobo y Juan, indiscutibles columnas de la iglesia, reconocieron que Dios me había usado para ser apóstol entre los gentiles, de la misma manera que había usado a Pedro para predicarles a los judíos (después de todo, fue el mismo Dios el que nos capacitó). Y así, nos dieron la mano, a Bernabé y a mí, en señal de compañerismo, y nos exhortaron a continuar nuestras labores entre los gentiles mientras ellos continuaban la suya entre los judíos.

Antes por el contrario, como vieron que el evangelio de la incircuncisión me era encargado, como á Pedro el de la circuncisión,

But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

but to the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the Good News for the uncircumcised, even as Peter with the Good News for the circumcised—

—

(Porque el que hizo por Pedro para el apostolado de la circuncisión, hizo también por mí para con los Gentiles;)

(For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)

for he who worked through Peter in the apostleship with the circumcised also worked through me with the Gentiles—

Y como vieron la gracia que me era dada, Jacobo y Cefas y Juan, que parecían ser las columnas, nos dieron las diestras de compañía á mí y á Bernabé, para que nosotros fuésemos á los Gentiles, y ellos á la circuncisión.

And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, those who were reputed to be pillars, gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcision.

Eso sí, nos pidieron que recordáramos a los pobres, cosa que por mi parte he procurado hacer con todo cuidado.

Solamente nos pidieron que nos acordásemos de los pobres; lo mismo que fuí también solícito en hacer.

Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do.

Pero cuando después me encontré con Pedro en Antioquía, me opuse a él en público, y le critiqué fuertemente algo que estaba haciendo.

Empero viniendo Pedro á Antioquía, le resistí en la cara, porque era de condenar.

But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

But when Peter came to Antioch, I resisted him to his face, because he stood condemned.

Cuando llegó, comió con los cristianos gentiles. Pero cuando llegaron ciertos judíos amigos de Jacobo, no quiso volver a comer con los gentiles por temor a lo que pudieran decir aquellos que afirman que es necesario circuncidarse.

Porque antes que viniesen unos de parte de Jacobo, comía con los Gentiles; mas después que vinieron, se retraía y apartaba, teniendo miedo de los que eran de la circuncisión.

For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.

For before some people came from James, he ate with the Gentiles. But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.

Y a la hipocresía de Pedro se unieron los demás cristianos judíos, incluso Bernabé.

Y á su disimulación consentían también los otros Judíos; de tal manera que aun Bernabé fué también llevado de ellos en su simulación.

And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

And the rest of the Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.

Ante ello, y comprendiendo que no estaban actuando rectamente, conforme a la integridad del evangelio, le dije a Pedro delante de los demás: «Tú, que eres judío, has estado portándote como si no lo fueras. ¿A qué viene ahora que, de pronto, te pongas a decirles a estos gentiles que deben vivir como si fueran judíos?

Mas cuando vi que no andaban derechamente conforme á la verdad del evangelio, dije á Pedro delante de todos: Si tú, siendo Judío, vives como los Gentiles y no como Judío, ¿por qué constriñes á los Gentiles á judaizar?

But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

But when I saw that they didn’t walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do, and not as the Jews do, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as the Jews do?

»Tú y yo somos judíos de nacimiento, y no simples pecadores gentiles.

Nosotros Judíos naturales, y no pecadores de los Gentiles,

We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,

“We, being Jews by nature and not Gentile sinners,

Sin embargo, sabemos muy bien que nadie puede justificarse ante Dios obedeciendo la ley. Sabemos que eso sólo es posible por la fe en Jesucristo. Por eso, nosotros también hemos confiado en Jesucristo, y somos justificados por esa fe y no porque hayamos observado la ley. Nadie se salva por tratar de cumplirla.

Sabiendo que el hombre no es justificado por las obras de la ley, sino por la fe de Jesucristo, nosotros también hemos creído en Jesucristo, para que fuésemos justificados por la fe de Cristo, y no por las obras de la ley; por cuanto por las obras de la ley ninguna carne será justificada.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.

»Ahora bien, ¿qué pasa si confiamos en Cristo para salvarnos y luego nos damos cuenta de que nosotros mismos somos pecadores? ¿Tendremos que decir que la fe en Cristo fue nuestra perdición? ¡De ninguna manera!

Y si buscando nosotros ser justificados en Cristo, también nosotros somos hallados pecadores, ¿es por eso Cristo ministro de pecado? En ninguna manera.

But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

But if while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not!

Si uno vuelve a edificar lo que había destruido, se hace transgresor.

Porque si las cosas que destruí, las mismas vuelvo á edificar, transgresor me hago.

For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker.

Yo estoy muerto por causa de la ley, pero ahora vivo para Dios.

Porque yo por la ley soy muerto á la ley, para vivir á Dios.

For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God.

Estoy crucificado con Cristo, y ya no vivo yo, es Cristo quien vive en mí. Y esta vida que ahora tengo la vivo por mi fe en el Hijo de Dios, quien me amó y se entregó por mí.

Con Cristo estoy juntamente crucificado, y vivo, no ya yo, mas vive Cristo en mí: y lo que ahora vivo en la carne, lo vivo en la fe del Hijo de Dios, el cual me amó, y se entregó á sí mismo por mí.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.

No rechazo el amor de Dios. Si se obtuviera la justicia por guardar la ley, habría sido vana la muerte de Cristo».

No desecho la gracia de Dios: porque si por la ley fuese la justicia, entonces por demás murió Cristo.

I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

I don’t reject the grace of God. For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing!”
