Esto es lo que quiero decir: Mientras que un heredero es menor de edad, en la práctica es igual que un esclavo, aunque sea propietario de las riquezas de su padre.
TAMBIÉN digo: Entre tanto que el heredero es niño, en nada difiere del siervo, aunque es señor de todo;
Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all,
Tiene que obedecer a sus tutores y administradores hasta que llegue la fecha que el padre señaló.
Mas está debajo de tutores y curadores hasta el tiempo señalado por el padre.
But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father.
Así nos pasaba a nosotros. Cuando éramos menores de edad, éramos esclavos de los poderes que controlan el mundo.
Así también nosotros, cuando éramos niños, éramos siervos bajo los rudimentos del mundo.
Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world.
Pero cuando se cumplió el plazo, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de mujer y nacido bajo la ley,
Mas venido el cumplimiento del tiempo, Dios envió su Hijo, hecho de mujer, hecho súbdito á la ley,
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,
a fin de comprar nuestra libertad, ya que éramos esclavos de la ley, y así adoptarnos como hijos suyos.
Para que redimiese á los que estaban debajo de la ley, á fin de que recibiésemos la adopción de hijos.

Así que ya no eres esclavo, sino hijo de Dios. Y como eres su hijo, Dios te ha hecho su heredero.

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Antes que ustedes conocieran a Dios, eran esclavos de los que en realidad no son dioses.
Antes, en otro tiempo, no conociendo á Dios, servíais á los que por naturaleza no son dioses:
Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
However at that time, not knowing God, you were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods.
Pero ahora que conocen a Dios, o mejor dicho, que Dios los conoce a ustedes, ¿cómo se les ocurre retroceder y volver a ser esclavos de esos poderes que no valen nada y no pueden hacer nada bueno por ustedes?
Mas ahora, habiendo conocido á Dios, ó más bien, siendo conocidos de Dios, ¿cómo os volvéis de nuevo á los flacos y pobres rudimentos, en los cuales queréis volver á servir?
But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?

Guardáis los días, y los meses, y los tiempos, y los años.
Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

Temo por ustedes. ¡Temo que mi trabajo entre ustedes haya sido inútil!
Temo de vosotros, que no haya trabajado en vano en vosotros.
I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you.
Hermanos, sean como yo, porque yo me he identificado con ustedes. Ustedes no me han ofendido en nada.
Hermanos, os ruego, sed como yo, porque yo soy como vosotros: ningún agravio me habéis hecho.
Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.
I beg you, brothers, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong,
Ustedes bien saben cómo me acogieron la primera vez que les prediqué el evangelio, aun cuando entonces estaba enfermo.
Que vosotros sabéis que por flaqueza de carne os anuncié el evangelio al principio:
Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.
but you know that because of weakness in the flesh I preached the Good News to you the first time.
Y aunque mi enfermedad fue una prueba para ustedes, no me rechazaron ni me echaron de entre ustedes. Al contrario, me cuidaron como si hubiera sido un ángel de Dios o Jesucristo mismo.
Y no desechasteis ni menospreciasteis mi tentación que estaba en mi carne: antes me recibisteis como á un ángel de Dios, como á Cristo Jesús.
And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
That which was a temptation to you in my flesh, you didn’t despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
¿Dónde está aquella alegría que experimentaban? Me consta que con gusto se habrían sacado los ojos para dármelos, si esto hubiera sido posible.
¿Dónde está pues vuestra bienaventuranza? porque yo os doy testimonio que si se pudiera hacer, os hubierais sacado vuestros ojos para dármelos.
Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
What was the blessing you enjoyed? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.
¿Me considerarán ahora un enemigo porque les digo la verdad?
¿Heme pues hecho vuestro enemigo, diciéndoos la verdad?
Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?
Esos que tan ansiosos están de ganarse el favor de ustedes no tienen muy buenas intenciones. Lo que intentan es apartarlos de nosotros para que ustedes les presten más atención a ellos.
Tienen celos de vosotros, pero no bien: antes os quieren echar fuera para que vosotros los celéis á ellos.
They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.
They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them.
No hay nada malo en que muestren interés por los demás, siempre que lo hagan con buenas intenciones. Y tampoco en que sea siempre y no sólo cuando estoy con ustedes.
Bueno es ser celosos en bien siempre; y no solamente cuando estoy presente con vosotros.
But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
But it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you.
Hijitos míos, ¡de nuevo sufro dolores de parto hasta que Cristo se forme en ustedes!
Hijitos míos, que vuelvo otra vez á estar de parto de vosotros, hasta que Cristo sea formado en vosotros;
My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you—
Daría cualquier cosa por estar allá con ustedes y no tener que hablarles de esta manera, porque francamente me tienen muy confundido.
Querría cierto estar ahora con vosotros, y mudar mi voz; porque estoy perplejo en cuanto á vosotros.
I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.
Los que quieren obedecer la ley, díganme: ¿Por qué no se fijan bien en lo que dice la ley?
Decidme, los que queréis estar debajo de la ley, ¿no habéis oído la ley?
Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, don’t you listen to the law?
Porque está escrito que Abraham tuvo dos hijos: uno con una esclava y otro con una mujer libre.
Porque escrito está que Abraham tuvo dos hijos; uno de la sierva, el otro de la libre.
For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the servant, and one by the free woman.
En el nacimiento del hijo de la esclava no hubo nada sobrenatural; pero el hijo de la libre nació porque Dios le prometió a Abraham que nacería.
Mas el de la sierva nació según la carne; pero el de la libre nació por la promesa.
But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
However, the son by the servant was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.
Esto es como un ejemplo: Las dos mujeres representan dos pactos: una, que es Agar, representa el pacto del monte Sinaí. Ella fue la madre del esclavo.
Las cuales cosas son dichas por alegoría: porque estas mujeres son los dos pactos; el uno ciertamente del monte Sinaí, el cual engendró para servidumbre, que es Agar.
Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar.
Agar representa al monte Sinaí que está en Arabia, el cual simboliza a la actual ciudad de Jerusalén, que vive en la esclavitud con sus hijos.
Porque Agar ó Sinaí es un monte de Arabia, el cual es conjunto á la que ahora es Jerusalem, la cual sirve con sus hijos.
For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to the Jerusalem that exists now, for she is in bondage with her children.
Pero nuestra madre es la Jerusalén celestial; y esta es libre.

Porque está escrito: Alégrate, estéril, que no pares: prorrumpe y clama, la que no estás de parto; porque más son los hijos de la dejada, que de la que tiene marido.
For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
For it is written, “Rejoice, you barren who don’t bear. Break out and shout, you who don’t travail. For the desolate women have more children than her who has a husband.”
Ustedes, hermanos, al igual que Isaac, son los hijos que Dios prometió.
Así que, hermanos, nosotros como Isaac somos hijos de la promesa.

Pero, ¿qué dicen las Escrituras?: «Echa fuera a la esclava y a su hijo, para que el hijo de la esclava no comparta la herencia del hijo de la libre».
Mas ¿qué dice la Escritura? Echa fuera á la sierva y á su hijo; porque no será heredero el hijo de la sierva con el hijo de la libre.
Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
However, what does the Scripture say? “Throw out the servant and her son, for the son of the servant will not inherit with the son of the free woman.”
Así que, hermanos, ¡no somos hijos de la esclava, sino de la libre!
De manera, hermanos, que no somos hijos de la sierva, mas de la libre.
So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
So then, brothers, we are not children of a servant, but of the free woman.
