1Sara ward hundertsiebenundzwanzig Jahre alt
2und starb in Kirjat-Arba, das Hebron heißt, im Lande Kanaan. Da kam Abraham, daß er sie beklagte und beweinte.
3Darnach stand er auf von seiner Leiche und redete mit den Kindern Heth und sprach:
4Ich bin ein Fremder und Einwohner bei euch; gebt mir ein Erbbegräbnis bei euch, daß ich meinen Toten begrabe, der vor mir liegt.
5Da antworteten Abraham die Kinder Heth und sprachen zu ihm:
6Höre uns, lieber Herr! Du bist ein Fürst Gottes unter uns, begrabe deinen Toten in unsern vornehmsten Gräbern; kein Mensch soll dir unter uns wehren, daß du in seinem Grabe begrabest deinen Toten.
7Da stand Abraham auf und bückte sich vor dem Volk des Landes, vor den Kindern Heth.
8Und er redete mit ihnen und sprach: Gefällt es euch, daß ich meinen Toten, der vor mir liegt, begrabe, so hört mich und bittet für mich Ephron, den Sohn Zohars,
9daß er mir gebe seine zwiefache Höhle, die er hat am Ende seines Ackers; er gebe sie mir um Geld, soviel sie wert ist, unter euch zum Erbbegräbnis.
10Ephron aber saß unter den Kindern Heth. Da antwortete Ephron, der Hethiter, Abraham, daß zuhörten die Kinder Heth, vor allen, die zu seiner Stadt Tor aus und ein gingen, und sprach:
11Nein, mein Herr, sondern höre mir zu! Ich schenke dir den Acker und die Höhle darin dazu und übergebe dir's vor den Augen der Kinder meines Volkes, zu begraben deinen Toten.
12Da bückte sich Abraham vor dem Volk des Landes
13und redete mit Ephron, daß zuhörte das Volk des Landes, und sprach: Willst du mir ihn lassen, so bitte ich, nimm von mir das Geld für den Acker, das ich dir gebe, so will ich meinen Toten daselbst begraben.
14Ephron antwortete Abraham und sprach zu ihm:
15Mein Herr, höre doch mich! Das Feld ist vierhundert Lot Silber wert; was ist das aber zwischen mir und dir? Begrabe nur deinen Toten!
16Abraham gehorchte Ephron und wog ihm das Geld dar, das er gesagt hatte, daß zuhörten die Kinder Heth, vierhundert Lot Silber, das im Kauf gang und gäbe war.
17Also ward Ephrons Acker, darin die zwiefache Höhle ist, Mamre gegenüber, Abraham zum eigenen Gut bestätigt mit der Höhle darin und mit allen Bäumen auf dem Acker umher,
18daß die Kinder Heth zusahen und alle, die zu seiner Stadt Tor aus und ein gingen.
19Darnach begrub Abraham Sara, sein Weib, in der Höhle des Ackers, die zwiefach ist, Mamre gegenüber, das ist Hebron, im Lande Kanaan.
20Also ward bestätigt der Acker und die Höhle darin Abraham zum Erbbegräbnis von den Kindern Heth.

1Y FUÉ la vida de Sara ciento veintisiete años: tantos fueron los años de la vida de Sara.
2Y murió Sara en Kiriath-arba, que es Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán: y vino Abraham á hacer el duelo á Sara, y á llorarla.
3Y levantóse Abraham de delante de su muerto, y habló á los hijos de Heth, diciendo:
4Peregrino y advenedizo soy entre vosotros; dadme heredad de sepultura con vosotros, y sepultaré mi muerto de delante de mí.
5Y respondieron los hijos de Heth á Abraham, y dijéronle:
6Oyenos, señor mío, eres un príncipe de Dios entre nosotros; en lo mejor de nuestras sepulturas sepulta á tu muerto; ninguno de nosotros te impedirá su sepultura, para que entierres tu muerto.
7Y Abraham se levantó, é inclinóse al pueblo de aquella tierra, á los hijos de Heth;
8Y habló con ellos, diciendo: Si tenéis voluntad que yo sepulte mi muerto de delante de mí, oidme, é interceded por mí con Ephrón, hijo de Zohar,
9Para que me dé la cueva de Macpela, que tiene al cabo de su heredad: que por su justo precio me la dé, para posesión de sepultura en medio de vosotros.
10Este Ephrón hallábase entre los hijos de Heth: y respondió Ephrón Hetheo á Abraham, en oídos de los hijos de Heth, de todos los que entraban por la puerta de su ciudad, diciendo:
11No, señor mío, óyeme: te doy la heredad, y te doy también la cueva que está en ella; delante de los hijos de mi pueblo te la doy; sepulta tu muerto.
12Y Abraham se inclinó delante del pueblo de la tierra.
13Y respondió á Ephrón en oídos del pueblo de la tierra, diciendo: Antes, si te place, ruégote que me oigas; yo daré el precio de la heredad, tómalo de mí, y sepultaré en ella mi muerto.
14Y respondió Ephrón á Abraham, diciéndole:
15Señor mío, escúchame: la tierra vale cuatrocientos siclos de plata: ¿qué es esto entre mí y ti? entierra pues tu muerto.
16Entonces Abraham se convino con Ephrón, y pesó Abraham á Ephrón el dinero que dijo, oyéndolo los hijos de Heth, cuatrocientos siclos de plata, de buena ley entre mercaderes.
17Y quedó la heredad de Ephrón que estaba en Macpela enfrente de Mamre, la heredad y la cueva que estaba en ella, y todos los árboles que había en la heredad, y en todo su término al derredor,
18Por de Abraham en posesión, á vista de los hijos de Heth, y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de la ciudad.
19Y después de esto sepultó Abraham á Sara su mujer en la cueva de la heredad de Macpela enfrente de Mamre, que es Hebrón en la tierra de Canaán.
20Y quedó la heredad y la cueva que en ella había, por de Abraham, en posesión de sepultura adquirida de los hijos de Heth.

1And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.
2And Sarah died in Kirjath-arba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
3And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,
4I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
5And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,
6Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.
7And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
8And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
9That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.
10And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
11Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.
12And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
13And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
14And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
15My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
16And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
17And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure
18Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
19And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
20And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
World English Bible
1Sarah lived one hundred twenty-seven years. This was the length of Sarah’s life.
2Sarah died in Kiriath Arba (also called Hebron), in the land of Canaan. Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
3Abraham rose up from before his dead and spoke to the children of Heth, saying,
4“I am a stranger and a foreigner living with you. Give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”
5The children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,
6“Hear us, my lord. You are a prince of God among us. Bury your dead in the best of our tombs. None of us will withhold from you his tomb. Bury your dead.”
7Abraham rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, to the children of Heth.
8He talked with them, saying, “If you agree that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
9that he may sell me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field. For the full price let him sell it to me among you as a possession for a burial place.”
10Now Ephron was sitting in the middle of the children of Heth. Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying,
11“No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. In the presence of the children of my people I give it to you. Bury your dead.”
12Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.
13He spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, “But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there.”
14Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,
15“My lord, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your dead.”
16Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the hearing of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants’ standard.
17So the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all of its borders, were deeded
18to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.
19After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (that is, Hebron), in the land of Canaan.
20The field, and the cave that is in it, were deeded to Abraham by the children of Heth as a possession for a burial place.
