1Entonces Isaac llamó a Jacob, lo bendijo y le ordenó: ―No te cases con ninguna mujer de aquí de Canaán.
2Debes ir inmediatamente a Padán Aram, a la casa de tu abuelo Betuel, el padre de tu madre, para que te cases con alguna de las hijas de tu tío Labán.
3Que el Dios Todopoderoso te bendiga y te dé muchos hijos; que llegues a ser una nación compuesta de muchas tribus.
4Que Dios te dé a ti, y también a tu descendencia, las grandes bendiciones prometidas a Abraham. Que te dé la posesión de esta tierra en que ahora somos extranjeros, porque Dios se la prometió a Abraham.
5De esta manera despidió Isaac a Jacob y lo envió a Padán Aram, donde vivía Labán, el hijo de Betuel, el arameo, y hermano de Rebeca, la madre de Jacob y Esaú.
6Esaú supo que su padre había bendecido a Jacob y que lo había enviado a Padán Aram, para que se casara allá. También se enteró de que Isaac, al bendecir a Jacob, le prohibió que se casara con una mujer cananea.
7Y que Jacob, efectivamente, obedeció a su padre y a su madre, y se fue para Padán Aram.
8Por eso, Esaú comprendió que las mujeres de Canaán no eran del agrado de Isaac, su padre.
9Entonces Esaú fue a la región donde vivía Ismael, el hijo de Abraham. Allí Esaú, aunque ya tenía otras esposas, se casó con Majalat, que era hija de Ismael y hermana de Nebayot.
10Jacob salió de Berseba y viajó hacia Jarán.
11Llegó hasta cierto lugar y se quedó allí para pasar la noche, pues ya el sol se había ocultado. Tomó una piedra y la puso como almohada, y se acostó a dormir.
12Mientras dormía soñó que había una escalera desde la tierra hasta el cielo, y vio ángeles de Dios que subían y bajaban por ella.
13En el sueño también vio que el Señor estaba parado junto a él y le decía: «Yo soy el Señor, el Dios de tu abuelo Abraham y de tu padre Isaac. A ti y a tus descendientes les voy a dar esta tierra en la que estás acostado.
14Tus descendientes serán tantos como el polvo de la tierra. Llenarán la tierra de este a oeste y de norte a sur. Todas las naciones de la tierra serán bendecidas por medio de ti y de tu descendencia.
15Además, estaré contigo y te protegeré dondequiera que vayas, y te traeré de nuevo sano y salvo a esta tierra. ¡Jamás te abandonaré sin haberte cumplido mis promesas!».
16Cuando Jacob despertó de su sueño tuvo mucho miedo, y pensó: «¡Sin duda alguna el Señor está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía! ¡Este lugar es asombroso! ¡Es nada menos que la casa de Dios y la puerta del cielo!».

18Al día siguiente se levantó muy de mañana, tomó la piedra que había usado como almohada, la paró como si fuera una columna, para que sirviera de señal de lo ocurrido. Luego derramó aceite de oliva sobre ella.
19En ese lugar había una ciudad que se llamaba Luz, pero Jacob le cambió el nombre y la llamó Betel (Casa de Dios).
20Jacob, entonces, hizo este voto: «Si Dios me ayuda y me protege en este viaje, me da ropa y comida, y me permite regresar sano y salvo a la casa de mi padre, el Señor será mi Dios. Y esta piedra que he levantado para señal, será lugar de adoración. Además, de todo lo que me dé, le entregaré el diezmo».

1ENTONCES Isaac llamó á Jacob, y bendíjolo, y mandóle diciendo: No tomes mujer de las hijas de Canaán.
2Levántate, ve á Padan-aram, á casa de Bethuel, padre de tu madre, y toma allí mujer de las hijas de Labán, hermano de tu madre.
3Y el Dios omnipotente te bendiga, y te haga fructificar, y te multiplique, hasta venir á ser congregación de pueblos;
4Y te dé la bendición de Abraham, y á tu simiente contigo, para que heredes la tierra de tus peregrinaciones, que Dios dió á Abraham.
5Así envió Isaac á Jacob, el cual fué á Padan-aram, á Labán, hijo de Bethuel Arameo, hermano de Rebeca, madre de Jacob y de Esaú.
6Y vió Esaú cómo Isaac había bendecido á Jacob, y le había enviado á Padan-aram, para tomar para sí mujer de allí; y que cuando le bendijo, le había mandado, diciendo: No tomarás mujer de las hijas de Canaán;
7Y que Jacob había obedecido á su padre y á su madre, y se había ido á Padan-aram.
8Vió asimismo Esaú que las hijas de Canaán parecían mal á Isaac su padre;
9Y fuése Esaú á Ismael, y tomó para sí por mujer á Mahaleth, hija de Ismael, hijo de Abraham, hermana de Nabaioth, además de sus otras mujeres.
10Y salió Jacob de Beer-seba, y fué á Harán;
11Y encontró con un lugar, y durmió allí, porque ya el sol se había puesto: y tomó de las piedras de aquel paraje y puso á su cabecera, y acostóse en aquel lugar.
12Y soñó, y he aquí una escala que estaba apoyada en tierra, y su cabeza tocaba en el cielo: y he aquí ángeles de Dios que subían y descendían por ella.
13Y he aquí, Jehová estaba en lo alto de ella, el cual dijo: Yo soy Jehová, el Dios de Abraham tu padre, y el Dios de Isaac: la tierra en que estás acostado te la daré á ti y á tu simiente.
14Y será tu simiente como el polvo de la tierra, y te extenderás al occidente, y al oriente, y al aquilón, y al mediodía; y todas las familias de la tierra serán benditas en ti y en tu simiente.
15Y he aquí, yo soy contigo, y te guardaré por donde quiera que fueres, y te volveré á esta tierra; porque no te dejaré hasta tanto que haya hecho lo que te he dicho.
16Y despertó Jacob de su sueño, y dijo: Ciertamente Jehová está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía.
17Y tuvo miedo, y dijo: ¡Cuán terrible es este lugar! No es otra cosa que casa de Dios, y puerta del cielo.
18Y levantóse Jacob de mañana, y tomó la piedra que había puesto de cabecera, y alzóla por título, y derramó aceite encima de ella.
19Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Beth-el, bien que Luz era el nombre de la ciudad primero.
20E hizo Jacob voto, diciendo: Si fuere Dios conmigo, y me guardare en este viaje que voy, y me diere pan para comer y vestido para vestir,
21Y si tornare en paz á casa de mi padre, Jehová será mi Dios,
22Y esta piedra que he puesto por título, será casa de Dios: y de todo lo que me dieres, el diezmo lo he de apartar para ti.

1And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
3And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;
4And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.
5And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padan-aram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
6When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
7And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan-aram;
8And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
9Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
10And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.
11And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
13And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
17And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
19And he called the name of that place Beth-el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
20And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
22And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
World English Bible
1Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.
3May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,
4and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your offspring with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham.”
5Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
6Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;”
7and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.
8Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn’t please Isaac, his father.
9So Esau went to Ishmael, and took, in addition to the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.
10Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
11He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
13Behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.
14Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.
15Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”
16Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”
17He was afraid, and said, “How awesome this place is! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”
18Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.
19He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
20Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,
21so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, and the LORD will be my God,
22then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.”
