1Und Jakob hob seine Augen auf und sah: und siehe, Esau kam und mit ihm vierhundert Mann. Und er verteilte die Kinder auf Lea und auf Rahel und auf die beiden Mägde;
2und er stellte die Mägde und ihre Kinder vornan und Lea und ihre Kinder dahinter und Rahel und Joseph zuletzt.
3Er aber ging vor ihnen her und beugte sich siebenmal zur Erde nieder, bis er nahe zu seinem Bruder kam.
4Und Esau lief ihm entgegen und umarmte ihn und fiel ihm um den Hals und küßte ihn; und sie weinten.
5Und er hob seine Augen auf und sah die Weiber und die Kinder und sprach: Wer sind diese bei dir? Und er sprach: Die Kinder, die Gott deinem Knechte beschert hat.
6Und die Mägde traten herzu, sie und ihre Kinder, und verneigten sich.
7Und auch Lea trat herzu und ihre Kinder, und sie verneigten sich. Und danach traten Joseph und Rahel herzu und verneigten sich.
8Und er sprach: Was willst du mit diesem ganzen Zug, dem ich begegnet bin? Und er sprach: Daß ich Gnade fände in den Augen meines Herrn.
9Da sprach Esau: Ich habe genug, mein Bruder; es sei dein, was du hast.
10Und Jakob sprach: Nicht doch; wenn ich anders Gnade gefunden habe in deinen Augen, so nimm mein Geschenk von meiner Hand, da ich nun einmal dein Angesicht gesehen habe, als hätte ich Gottes Angesicht gesehen, und du Wohlgefallen an mir gehabt hast.
11Nimm doch mein Geschenk, das dir überbracht worden ist; denn Gott hat es mir beschert, und ich habe alles. Und er drang in ihn, und er nahm es.
12Und Esau sprach: Laß uns aufbrechen und weiterziehen, und ich will vor dir herziehen.
13Und er sprach zu ihm: Mein Herr weiß, daß die Kinder zart sind und daß ich säugende Schafe und Kühe bei mir habe; wenn man sie nur einen Tag übertriebe, so würde die ganze Herde sterben.
14Mein Herr ziehe doch vor seinem Knechte hin, und ich will einherziehen nach meiner Gemächlichkeit, nach dem Gange des Viehes, das vor mir ist, und nach dem Gange der Kinder, bis ich zu meinem Herrn komme nach Seir.
15Und Esau sprach: Ich will doch von dem Volke bei dir zurücklassen, das bei mir ist. Und er sprach: Wozu das? Möchte ich Gnade finden in den Augen meines Herrn!
16Und Esau kehrte an selbigem Tage seines Weges zurück nach Seir.
17Und Jakob brach auf nach Sukkoth und baute sich ein Haus, und seinem Vieh machte er Hütten; darum gab er dem Orte den Namen Sukkoth.
18Und Jakob kam wohlbehalten nach der Stadt Sichem, die im Lande Kanaan ist, als er aus Paddan-Aram kam, und lagerte vor der Stadt.
19Und er kaufte das Stück Feld, wo er sein Zelt aufgeschlagen hatte, von der Hand der Söhne Hemors, des Vaters Sichems, um hundert Kesita.
20Und er richtete daselbst einen Altar auf und nannte ihn: Gott, der Gott Israels.

1Y ALZANDO Jacob sus ojos miró, y he aquí venía Esaú, y los cuatrocientos hombres con él: entonces repartió él los niños entre Lea y Rachêl y las dos siervas.
2Y puso las siervas y sus niños delante; luego á Lea y á sus niños; y á Rachêl y á José los postreros.
3Y él pasó delante de ellos, é inclinóse á tierra siete veces, hasta que llegó á su hermano.
4Y Esaú corrió á su encuentro, y abrazóle, y echóse sobre su cuello, y le besó; y lloraron.
5Y alzó sus ojos, y vió las mujeres y los niños, y dijo: ¿Qué te tocan éstos? Y él respondió: Son los niños que Dios ha dado á tu siervo.
6Y se llegaron las siervas, ellas y sus niños, é inclináronse.
7Y llegóse Lea con sus niños, é inclináronse: y después llegó José y Rachêl, y también se inclinaron.
8Y él dijo: ¿Qué te propones con todas estas cuadrillas que he encontrado? Y él respondió: El hallar gracia en los ojos de mi señor.
9Y dijo Esaú: Harto tengo yo, hermano mío: sea para ti lo que es tuyo.
10Y dijo Jacob: No, yo te ruego, si he hallado ahora gracia en tus ojos, toma mi presente de mi mano, pues que así he visto tu rostro, como si hubiera visto el rostro de Dios; y hazme placer.
11Toma, te ruego, mi dádiva que te es traída; porque Dios me ha hecho merced, y todo lo que hay aquí es mío. Y porfió con él, y tomóla.
12Y dijo: Anda, y vamos; y yo iré delante de ti.
13Y él le dijo: Mi señor sabe que los niños son tiernos, y que tengo ovejas y vacas paridas; y si las fatigan, en un día morirán todas las ovejas.
14Pase ahora mi señor delante de su siervo, y yo me iré poco á poco al paso de la hacienda que va delante de mí, y al paso de los niños, hasta que llegue á mi señor á Seir.
15Y Esaú dijo: Dejaré ahora contigo de la gente que viene conmigo. Y él dijo: ¿Para qué esto? halle yo gracia en los ojos de mi señor.
16Así se volvió Esaú aquel día por su camino á Seir.
17Y Jacob se partió á Succoth, y edificó allí casa para sí, é hizo cabañas para su ganado: por tanto llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Succoth.
18Y vino Jacob sano á la ciudad de Sichêm, que está en la tierra de Canaán, cuando venía de Padan-aram; y acampó delante de la ciudad.
19Y compró una parte del campo, donde tendió su tienda, de mano de los hijos de Hamor, padre de Sichêm, por cien piezas de moneda.
20Y erigió allí un altar, y llamóle: El Dios de Israel.

1And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
2And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
3And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
5And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.
6Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.
7And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
8And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.
9And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.
10And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.
11Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
12And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.
13And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.
14Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.
15And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.
16So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.
17And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city.
19And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money.
20And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.
World English Bible
1Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. He divided the children between Leah, Rachel, and the two servants.
2He put the servants and their children in front, Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph at the rear.
3He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, fell on his neck, kissed him, and they wept.
5He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “Who are these with you?” He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
6Then the servants came near with their children, and they bowed themselves.
7Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves. After them, Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
8Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company which I met?” Jacob said, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.”
9Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; let that which you have be yours.”
10Jacob said, “Please, no, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present at my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you were pleased with me.
11Please take the gift that I brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” He urged him, and he took it.
12Esau said, “Let’s take our journey, and let’s go, and I will go before you.”
13Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.
14Please let my lord pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.”
15Esau said, “Let me now leave with you some of the people who are with me.” He said, “Why? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”
16So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.
17Jacob traveled to Succoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram; and encamped before the city.
19He bought the parcel of ground where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.
20He erected an altar there, and called it El Elohe Israel.
