La escasez de alimentos fue cada vez mayor, de modo que toda la gente de Egipto y de Canaán estaba experimentando mucha hambre.

Y no había pan en toda la tierra, y el hambre era muy grave; por lo que desfalleció de hambre la tierra de Egipto y la tierra de Canaán.
