Subiré a la torre de vigilancia y me quedaré ahí a la espera de la respuesta que Dios dará a mi queja.
SOBRE mi guarda estaré, y sobre la fortaleza afirmaré el pie, y atalayaré para ver qué hablará en mí, y qué tengo de responder á mi pregunta.
I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Escribe mi respuesta en letras grandes y claras, para que cualquiera pueda leerla de una mirada y corra a contarla a los demás.
Y Jehová me respondió, y dijo: Escribe la visión, y declárala en tablas, para que corra el que leyere en ella.
And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Las cosas que planeo no ocurrirán tan pronto, pero con toda seguridad ocurrirán. Aunque pienses que se demoran en cumplirse, no te desesperes. ¡Todo acontecerá en el día que he señalado!
Aunque la visión tardará aún por tiempo, mas al fin hablará, y no mentirá: aunque se tardare, espéralo, que sin duda vendrá; no tardará.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

»Los babilonios son prepotentes, porque son malvados; pero el justo vivirá porque confía en Dios.
He aquí se enorgullece aquel cuya alma no es derecha en él: mas el justo en su fe vivirá.
Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith.
Estos babilonios arrogantes desean siempre el poder, por eso se apoderan de naciones y de pueblos. Pero es tanta su codicia, que se parecen a la muerte que nunca está satisfecha, aunque sean muchos los muertos.
Y también, por cuanto peca por el vino, es un hombre soberbio, y no permanecerá: que ensanchó como el infierno su alma, y es como la muerte, que no se hartará: antes reunió á sí todas las gentes, y amontonó á sí todos los pueblos.
Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:
Yes, moreover, wine is treacherous: an arrogant man who doesn’t stay at home, who enlarges his desire as Sheol; he is like death and can’t be satisfied, but gathers to himself all nations and heaps to himself all peoples.
Viene el día en que todos sus cautivos se burlarán de ellos, diciendo: “¡Ladrones! ¡Pobre Babilonia, ya no podrá seguir haciéndose rica con los bienes ajenos! ¡Por fin dejarás de robar y de acumular tantas riquezas!”.
¿No han de levantar todos estos sobre él parábola, y sarcasmos contra él? Y dirán: ¡Ay del que multiplicó lo que no era suyo! ¿Y hasta cuándo había de amontonar sobre sí espeso lodo?
Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!
Won’t all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?’
»De repente, aquellos a quienes oprimiste se levantarán contra ti. Se vengarán de ti y te quitarán todos tus bienes.
¿No se levantarán de repente los que te han de morder, y se despertarán los que te han de quitar de tu lugar, y serás á ellos por rapiña?
Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?
Won’t your debtors rise up suddenly, and wake up those who make you tremble, and you will be their victim?
¡Te pagarán con tu misma moneda! Así como tú robaste a muchas naciones, habrá naciones que te robarán a ti. De esa manera pagarás por toda tu violencia, por todos los crímenes que cometiste en las ciudades del país.
Porque tú has despojado muchas gentes, todos los otros pueblos te despojarán; á causa de las sangres humanas, y robos de la tierra, de las ciudades y de todos los que moraban en ellas.
Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the peoples will plunder you because of men’s blood, and for the violence done to the land, to the city and to all who dwell in it.
»¡Pobre de ti, Babilonia! Te hiciste rica con los bienes de otros y pensaste que ningún mal te alcanzaría por haber puesto tu residencia en zona muy alta y bien protegida.
¡Ay del que codicia maligna codicia para su casa, por poner en alto su nido, por escaparse del poder del mal!
Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil!
Por los homicidios cometidos, has llenado de vergüenza a tu nación. Al destruir a muchas naciones te buscaste tu propio mal, cavaste tu propia tumba.
Tomaste consejo vergonzoso para tu casa, asolaste muchos pueblos, y has pecado contra tu vida.
Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.
You have devised shame to your house by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul.
Ahora la venganza la tienes en tu propia casa. Las piedras de tus casas claman contra ti, y las vigas del techo les hacen eco.
Porque la piedra clamará desde el muro, y la tabla del enmaderado le responderá.
For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

»¡Pobre de ti, que edificas ciudades y pueblos con dinero obtenido por medio del asesinato y el robo y que la única ley que tienes es la de la violencia!
¡Ay del que edifica la ciudad con sangres, y del que funda la villa con iniquidad!
Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!
Woe to him who builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity!
¿No ha decretado el Señor Todopoderoso que las ganancias de la nación impía se conviertan en cenizas en sus manos? De modo que de nada te servirá haber acumulado tanto.
¿No es esto de Jehová de los ejércitos? Los pueblos pues trabajarán para el fuego, y las gentes se fatigarán en vano.
Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?
Behold, isn’t it from the LORD of Armies that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?
Viene el día en que la tierra será llena del conocimiento de la fama del Señor, así como las aguas cubren los mares.
Porque la tierra será llena de conocimiento de la gloria de Jehová, como las aguas cubren la mar.
For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD’s glory, as the waters cover the sea.
»¡Pobre de ti, Babilonia, que haces que las naciones vecinas caigan y se tambaleen como borrachos bajo tus golpes, para luego burlarte de ellas al verlas humilladas!
¡Ay del que da de beber á sus compañeros, que les acercas tu hiel y embriagas, para mirar sus desnudeces!
Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!
“Woe to him who gives his neighbor drink, pouring your inflaming wine until they are drunk, so that you may gaze at their naked bodies!
Dentro de poco tu propia grandeza será transformada en vergüenza. ¡También tú caerás y serás humillada! ¡El Señor desatará sobre ti su juicio!
Haste llenado de deshonra más que de honra: bebe tú también, y serás descubierto; el cáliz de la mano derecha de Jehová volverá sobre ti, y vómito de afrenta sobre tu gloria.
Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD’s right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.
You are filled with shame, and not glory. You will also drink and be exposed! The cup of the LORD’s right hand will come around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory.
Cortaste los bosques del Líbano; ahora tú serás cortada. Fuiste el terror de los animales que cayeron en tus trampas; ahora el terror te alcanzará a ti, debido a la violencia con que trataste a nuestro país y a nuestras ciudades.
Porque la rapiña del Líbano caerá sobre ti, y la destrucción de las fieras lo quebrantará; á causa de las sangres humanas, y del robo de la tierra, de las ciudades, y de todos los que en ellas moraban.
For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you, and the destruction of the animals will terrify you, because of men’s blood and for the violence done to the land, to every city and to those who dwell in them.
»¿Qué provecho hay en rendir homenaje a los ídolos hechos por los artesanos? ¡Qué gran mentira es decir que ellos pueden ayudar! ¡Qué tonta fuiste al confiar en lo que tú misma habías hecho con tus manos!
¿De qué sirve la escultura que esculpió el que la hizo? ¿la estatua de fundición, que enseña mentira, para que haciendo imágenes mudas confíe el hacedor en su obra?
What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?
“What value does the engraved image have, that its maker has engraved it; the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make mute idols?
¡Pobre de ti, Babilonia, que le dices a tus ídolos muertos que te salven! ¡Pobre de ti, que le pides a la piedra muerta que te diga lo que has de hacer! ¿Acaso crees que las imágenes de madera pueden hablar? Aunque están recargadas de oro y plata, no tienen vida.
¡Ay del que dice al palo: Despiértate; y á la piedra muda: Levántate! ¿Podrá él enseñar? He aquí él está cubierto de oro y plata, y no hay dentro de él espíritu.
Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
Woe to him who says to the wood, ‘Awake!’ or to the mute stone, ‘Arise!’ Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.
»En cambio, el Señor está en su santo templo, ¡guarden silencio respetuoso delante de él los habitantes de toda la tierra!».
Mas Jehová está en su santo templo: calle delante de él toda la tierra.
But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
But the LORD is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!”
