Por medio del profeta Hageo, el Señor les envió un mensaje a Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, que era el gobernador de Judá, y al jefe de los sacerdotes Josué, hijo de Josadac. Esto sucedió el día primero del mes sexto del segundo año del reinado de Darío, rey de Persia.
EN el año segundo del rey Darío en el mes sexto, en el primer día del mes, fué palabra de Jehová, por mano del profeta Haggeo, á Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y á Josué hijo de Josadac, gran sacerdote, diciendo:
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the LORD’s word came by Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,
El Señor Todopoderoso les preguntó: «¿Por qué andan todos diciendo que todavía no es tiempo de reedificar mi templo en Jerusalén?».
Jehová de los ejércitos habla así, diciendo: Este pueblo dice: No es aún venido el tiempo, el tiempo de que la casa de Jehová sea reedificada.
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built.
“This is what the LORD of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for the LORD’s house to be built.’”
Luego, el Señor les volvió a hablar a través del profeta Hageo:
Fué pues palabra de Jehová por mano del profeta Haggeo, diciendo:
Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

«¿Cómo es posible que ustedes vivan en casas bien hermosas, mientras mi templo permanece en ruinas?
¿Es para vosotros tiempo, para vosotros, de morar en vuestras casas enmaderadas, y esta casa está desierta?
Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?
Yo, que soy el Señor Todopoderoso, les digo: ¡Tengan mucho cuidado con lo que están haciendo!
Pues así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Pensad bien sobre vuestros caminos.
Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
Now therefore this is what the LORD of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.
Siembran mucho, pero recogen poco; comen, pero quedan con hambre; beben, pero quedan con sed; se visten, pero la ropa no los calienta; y el salario no les alcanza para nada.
Sembráis mucho, y encerráis poco; coméis, y no os hartáis; bebéis, y no os saciáis; os vestís, y no os calentáis; y el que anda á jornal recibe su jornal en trapo horadado.
Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.’
»¡Piensen muy bien lo que están haciendo! Se los digo yo, el Señor Todopoderoso.
Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Meditad sobre vuestros caminos.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
“This is what the LORD of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.
Suban a las montañas, traigan madera y reedifiquen mi templo. Eso me alegrará mucho y ustedes serán recompensados. Lo digo yo, el Señor.
Subid al monte, y traed madera, y reedificad la casa; y pondré en ella mi voluntad, y seré honrado, ha dicho Jehová.
Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.
Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says the LORD.
»Esperan mucho, pero reciben poco. Lo que logran guardar en sus casas, yo lo hago desaparecer de un soplo. ¿Por qué? Porque mi templo yace en ruinas y a ustedes nada les importa. Su única preocupación es el adorno de sus propias casas. Lo digo yo, el Señor Todopoderoso.
Buscáis mucho, y halláis poco; y encerráis en casa, y soplo en ello. ¿Por qué? dice Jehová de los ejércitos. Por cuanto mi casa está desierta, y cada uno de vosotros corre á su propia casa.
Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the LORD of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.
»A consecuencia de esa negligencia suya es que yo me he enojado y decidido no enviarles la lluvia necesaria para sus cosechas.
Por eso se detuvo de los cielos sobre vosotros la lluvia, y la tierra detuvo sus frutos.
Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.
En realidad he decidido que haya sequía en el valle y sobre los montes; una sequía que hará marchitar el trigo, las uvas, los olivares y todas sus cosechas; una sequía que destruirá todo aquello por lo que han trabajado arduamente, de modo que tanto ustedes como sus animales padecerán sed y hambre».
Y llamé la sequedad sobre esta tierra, y sobre los montes, y sobre el trigo, y sobre el vino, y sobre el aceite, y sobre todo lo que la tierra produce, y sobre los hombres y sobre las bestias, y sobre todo trabajo de manos.
And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

Entonces Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, el jefe de los sacerdotes Josué, hijo de Josadac, y el resto de la gente sintió mucho miedo. Por eso estuvieron dispuestos a obedecer el mensaje que el Señor su Dios les había enviado por medio del profeta Hageo.
Y oyó Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, y Josué hijo de Josadac, gran sacerdote, y todo el demás pueblo, la voz de Jehová su Dios, y las palabras del profeta Haggeo, como lo había enviado Jehová el Dios de ellos; y temió el pueblo delante de Jehová.
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the LORD their God’s voice, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him; and the people feared the LORD.
Entonces, después de que cambiaron de actitud, el Señor envió de nuevo al profeta Hageo para que les dijera: «Yo estaré con ustedes ayudándoles a cumplir este buen propósito».
Entonces Haggeo, enviado de Jehová, habló por mandado de Jehová, al pueblo, diciendo: Yo soy con vosotros, dice Jehová.
Then spake Haggai the LORD’s messenger in the LORD’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.
Then Haggai, the LORD’s messenger, spoke the LORD’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says the LORD.
Fue así como el Señor animó a Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, gobernador de Judá, al jefe de los sacerdotes Josué, hijo de Josadac, y al resto del pueblo para que comenzaran a trabajar en la reconstrucción del templo de su Dios, el Señor Todopoderoso.
Y despertó Jehová el espíritu de Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y el espíritu de Josué hijo de Josadac, gran sacerdote, y el espíritu de todo el resto del pueblo; y vinieron é hicieron obra en la casa de Jehová de los ejércitos, su Dios,
And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,

Así que comenzaron los trabajos el día veinticuatro del mes sexto del segundo año del reinado de Darío, rey de Persia.
En el día veinte y cuatro del mes sexto, en el segundo año del rey Darío.
