de otra manera hubieran cesado ya de ofrecerlas, pues que los sacrificadores, purificados una vez, no tendrán ya remordimiento de pecado;

PORQUE la ley, teniendo la sombra de los bienes venideros, no la imagen misma de las cosas, nunca puede, por los mismos sacrificios que ofrecen continuamente cada año, hacer perfectos á los que se allegan.

For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

con todo eso todos los años al ofrecerlas se hace conmemoración de los pecados;

De otra manera cesarían de ofrecerse; porque los que tributan este culto, limpios de una vez, no tendrían más conciencia de pecado.

For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins?

porque es de suyo imposible que con sangre de toros y de machos cabríos se quiten los pecados.

Empero en estos sacrificios cada año se hace conmemoración de los pecados.

But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

But in those sacrifices there is a yearly reminder of sins.

Por eso el Hijo de Dios al entrar en el mundo dice a su eterno Padre: Tú no has querido sacrificio, ni ofrenda; mas a mí me has apropiado un cuerpo mortal;

Porque la sangre de los toros y de los machos cabríos no puede quitar los pecados.

For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

holocaustos por el pecado no te han agradado.

Por lo cual, entrando en el mundo, dice: Sacrificio y presente no quisiste; mas me apropiaste cuerpo:

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, “You didn’t desire sacrifice and offering, but you prepared a body for me.

Entonces dije: Heme aquí que vengo, según está escrito de mí al principio del libro, o Escritura sagrada, para cumplir, ¡oh Dios!, tu voluntad.

Holocaustos y expiaciones por el pecado no te agradaron.

In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin.

Ahora bien, diciendo: Tú no has querido, ni han sido de tu agrado los sacrificios, las ofrendas y holocaustos por el pecado, cosas todas que ofrecen según la ley;

Entonces dije: Heme aquí (en la cabecera del libro está escrito de mí) para que haga, oh Dios, tu voluntad.

Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O God.’”

y añadiendo: Heme aquí que vengo, ¡oh mi Dios!, para hacer tu voluntad; claro está que abolió estos últimos sacrificios, para establecer otro, que es el de su cuerpo.

Diciendo arriba: Sacrificio y presente, y holocaustos y expiaciones por el pecado no quisiste, ni te agradaron, (las cuales cosas se ofrecen según la ley,)

Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

Previously saying, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them” (those which are offered according to the law),

Por esta voluntad, pues, somos santificados por la oblación del cuerpo de Jesucristo hecha una vez sola.

Entonces dijo: Heme aquí para que haga, oh Dios, tu voluntad. Quita lo primero, para establecer lo postrero.

Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second,

Y así en lugar de que todo sacerdote de la antigua ley se presenta cada día, por mañana y tarde, a ejercer su ministerio y a ofrecer muchas veces las mismas víctimas, las cuales no pueden jamás quitar los pecados,

En la cual voluntad somos santificados por la ofrenda del cuerpo de Jesucristo hecha una sola vez.

By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

este nuestro sumo sacerdote después de ofrecida una sola hostia por los pecados, está sentado para siempre a la diestra de Dios,

Así que, todo sacerdote se presenta cada día ministrando y ofreciendo muchas veces los mismos sacrificios, que nunca pueden quitar los pecados:

And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and offering often the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins,

aguardando entretanto lo que resta, es a saber, que sus enemigos sean puestos por estrado de sus pies.

Pero éste, habiendo ofrecido por los pecados un solo sacrificio para siempre, está sentado á la diestra de Dios,

But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God,

Porque con una sola ofrenda hizo perfectos para siempre a los que ha santificado.

Esperando lo que resta, hasta que sus enemigos sean puestos por estrado de sus pies.

From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet.

Eso mismo nos testifica el Espíritu Santo. Porque después de haber dicho:

Porque con una sola ofrenda hizo perfectos para siempre á los santificados.

For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

He aquí la alianza que yo asentaré con ellos, dice el Señor, después de aquellos días imprimiré mis leyes en sus corazones y las escribiré sobre sus almas;

Y atestíguanos lo mismo el Espíritu Santo; que después que dijo:

Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,

añade en seguida: Y ya nunca jamás me acordaré de sus pecados, ni de sus maldades.

Y este es el pacto que haré con ellos después de aquellos días, dice el Señor: Daré mis leyes en sus corazones, y en sus almas las escribiré;

This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days,” says the Lord, “I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;” then he says,

Cuando quedan, pues, perdonados los pecados, ya no es necesario la oblación por el pecado.

Añade: Y nunca más me acordaré de sus pecados é iniquidades.

And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

“I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.”

Esto supuesto, hermanos, teniendo la firme esperanza de entrar en el lugar santísimo o santuario del cielo, por la sangre de Cristo ,

Pues donde hay remisión de éstos, no hay más ofrenda por pecado.

con la cual nos abrió camino nuevo y de vida para entrar por el velo, esto es, por su carne;

Así que, hermanos, teniendo libertad para entrar en el santuario por la sangre de Jesucristo,

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

teniendo asimismo el gran sacerdote, Jesucristo, constituido sobre la casa de Dios, o la Iglesia,

Por el camino que él nos consagró nuevo y vivo, por el velo, esto es, por su carne;

By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh,

lleguémonos a él con sincero corazón, con plena fe, purificados los corazones de las inmundicias de la mala conciencia, lavados en el cuerpo con el agua limpia del bautismo ,

Y teniendo un gran sacerdote sobre la casa de Dios,

And having an high priest over the house of God;

and having a great priest over God’s house,

mantengamos firme la esperanza que hemos confesado (que fiel es quien hizo la promesa),

Lleguémonos con corazón verdadero, en plena certidumbre de fe, purificados los corazones de mala conciencia, y lavados los cuerpos con agua limpia.

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

y pongamos los ojos los unos en los otros para incentivo de caridad y de buenas obras,

Mantengamos firme la profesión de nuestra fe sin fluctuar; que fiel es el que prometió:

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.

no desamparando nuestra congregación, o asamblea de los fieles, como es costumbre de algunos, sino, al contrario, alentándonos mutuamente, y tanto más cuanto más vecino viereis el día.

Y considerémonos los unos á los otros para provocarnos al amor y á las buenas obras;

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Let’s consider how to provoke one another to love and good works,

Porque si pecamos a sabiendas después de haber reconocido la verdad, ya no nos queda hostia que ofrecer por los pecados,

No dejando nuestra congregación, como algunos tienen por costumbre, mas exhortándonos; y tanto más, cuanto veis que aquel día se acerca.

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

sino antes bien una horrenda expectación del juicio y del fuego abrasador, que ha de devorar a los enemigos de Dios.

Porque si pecáremos voluntariamente después de haber recibido el conocimiento de la verdad, ya no queda sacrificio por el pecado.

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Uno que prevarique contra la ley de Moisés, y se haga idólatra, siéndole probado con dos o tres testigos es condenado sin remisión a muerte.

Sino una horrenda esperanza de juicio, y hervor de fuego que ha de devorar á los adversarios.

But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.

Pues ahora, ¿cuánto más acerbos suplicios, si lo pensáis, merecerá aquel que hollare al Hijo de Dios, y tuviese por vil e inmunda la sangre divina del Testamento, por la cual fue santificado, y ultrajare al Espíritu Santo autor de la gracia?

El que menospreciare la ley de Moisés, por el testimonio de dos ó de tres testigos muere sin ninguna misericordia:

He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

A man who disregards Moses’ law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses.

Pues bien conocemos quién es el que dijo: A mí está reservada la venganza, y yo soy el que la ha de tomar. Y también: El Señor ha de juzgar a su pueblo.

¿Cuánto pensáis que será más digno de mayor castigo, el que hollare al Hijo de Dios, y tuviere por inmunda la sangre del testamento, en la cual fué santificado, é hiciere afrenta al Espíritu de gracia?

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

How much worse punishment do you think he will be judged worthy of who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

Horrenda cosa es por cierto caer en manos del Dios vivo.

Sabemos quién es el que dijo: Mía es la venganza, yo daré el pago, dice el Señor. Y otra vez: El Señor juzgará su pueblo.

For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

For we know him who said, “Vengeance belongs to me. I will repay,” says the Lord. Again, “The Lord will judge his people.”

Traed a la memoria aquellos primeros días de vuestra conversión, cuando después de haber sido iluminados sufristeis con valor admirable un gran combate de persecuciones;

Horrenda cosa es caer en las manos del Dios vivo.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

por un lado habiendo servido de espectáculo al mundo, por las injurias y malos tratamientos que habéis recibido, y por otro tomando parte en las penas de los que sufrían semejantes indignidades.

Empero traed á la memoria los días pasados, en los cuales, después de haber sido iluminados, sufristeis gran combate de aflicciones:

But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

But remember the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings:

Porque os compadecisteis de los que estaban entre cadenas; y llevasteis con alegría la rapiña de vuestros bienes, considerando que teníais un patrimonio más excelente y duradero.

Por una parte, ciertamente, con vituperios y tribulaciones fuisteis hechos espectáculo; y por otra parte hechos compañeros de los que estaban en tal estado.

Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.

partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions, and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so.

No queráis, pues, malograr vuestra confianza, la cual recibirá un gran galardón.

Porque de mis prisiones también os resentisteis conmigo, y el robo de vuestros bienes padecisteis con gozo, conociendo que tenéis en vosotros una mejor sustancia en los cielos, y que permanece.

For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

For you both had compassion on me in my chains and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens.

Porque os es necesaria la paciencia para que, haciendo la voluntad de Dios, obtengáis la promesa.

No perdáis pues vuestra confianza, que tiene grande remuneración de galardón:

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

Therefore don’t throw away your boldness, which has a great reward.

Pues dentro de un brevísimo tiempo, dice Dios, vendrá aquel que ha de venir, y no tardará.

Porque la paciencia os es necesaria; para que, habiendo hecho la voluntad de Dios, obtengáis la promesa.

For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

For you need endurance so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise.

Entretanto el justo mío, añade el Señor, vivirá por la fe; pero si desertare, no será agradable sino aborrecible a mi alma.

Porque aun un poquito, y el que ha de venir vendrá, y no tardará.

For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

“In a very little while, he who comes will come and will not wait.

Mas nosotros, hermanos, no somos de los hijos que desertan de la fe para perderse, sino de los fieles y constantes para poner a salvo al alma, y asegurarle la eterna gloria.

Ahora el justo vivirá por fe; mas si se retirare, no agradará á mi alma.

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

But the righteous one will live by faith. If he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”

Es, pues, la fe el fundamento o firme persuasión de las cosas que se esperan, y un convencimiento de las cosas que no se ven.

Pero nosotros no somos tales que nos retiremos para perdición, sino fieles para ganancia del alma.

But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul.
